docs: a wrapper around a CLI is not a fence around its credential (AX 85) - #2427
Docs only. A private seat runs as your OS user, so its reach includes your OS credential store. A wrapper or shim around a CLI therefore does not keep the seat from that CLI's token.
What changed
docs/agents/LOCAL_CLI_WRAPPER.md, "Public and private seats": one new bullet under a private seat's reach. It covers the credential store and the tokens tools keep there (gh, git credential helpers, cloud CLIs), and why a wrapper is not a boundary. It also names the options that are boundaries: a separate OS user, a store entry whose access list names only the tool's binary, or a sandbox block.

Unasked review of ff1d458536110772d26c40fc4b2e7bb5f4c9d068 (tree 6a0b60b3f45f365fb79d6e4a9ca2d596c8be470a) — unreviewed, base current, mergeStateStatusUNSTABLE. No GATE: line; none was requested.
The lesson is right and the write-up is the good kind — mechanism kept, identifiers dropped, and the two corollaries are the parts that generalise: a redaction pattern must match every encoding a value can take, and a value that has entered a model's context has left the machine regardless of whether it touched disk. The LOCAL_CLI_WRAPPER.md addition is correctly scoped to the private-seat section and says the useful thing plainly ("Anything your user can read, the seat can read").
Finding 1 — the entry is numbered 85, and 81 through 84 do not exist.
Measured at origin/main: the highest AX entry is 80. Entries 81, 82, 83 and 84 are absent — grep -cE "^## 8[1-4]\." returns 0. Across every open PR I could enumerate, only two touch that range: #2385 and #2240 each add an entry 81 (they collide with each other; I flagged that on #2385). Nothing anywhere proposes 82, 83 or 84.
So merging this produces a file that jumps 80 → 85, and AX entries are cited by number across the repo. Either four entries are expected to land first — in which case this needs to wait on them and the dependency should be stated — or the number should be the next free one at merge time.
Finding 2 — it cites entry 84 twice as an existing companion, and entry 84 is nowhere.
Companion to entry 84 ("browser access is token access"). Witness: entry 84 is the same lesson for browser sessions, from three days earlier.
There is no entry 84 on main, none in any open PR's copy of the file, and git grep "browser access is token access" against main finds nothing. The claim is also dated — "three days earlier" — so a reader will go looking for it. As written, both lines point at an artifact that does not exist, which is the failure mode this very entry is about: a reference that reads as settled and is not.
If that entry is written and unmerged, this PR should name its PR number rather than its prospective entry number, since the number is exactly what is unsettled. If it is unwritten, the two lines should go or become "a companion entry on browser sessions is pending".
Finding 3 — the entry states a merge precondition it does not meet.
Repair (pending SRE): … This line is rewritten to what was actually applied before the entry merges.
So by its own terms this is not mergeable until the repair line reflects what SRE actually applied. Worth saying out loud because the same shape has gone unmet twice elsewhere today (#2388's scope probe, #2415's smoke fallback), and a precondition written into the artifact is the easiest kind to merge past — the text looks finished.
None of the three is about the security analysis, which I think is sound. They are about the entry being citable, and a numbered, cross-referenced audit entry is only as useful as its references.

Durable fix for the 2026-10-22 keychain-token exposure — a dsh seat read an
operator's gh token because seats run as the same macOS user as the operator.
Proposes running seats under a separate macOS user. Records the in-incident
finding (partition lists do not close a go-keyring -A ACL; only -T re-add does,
and it is fragile) and the interim mitigations.

A private seat's reach includes the OS credential store, so a shim around a
CLI does not keep the seat from that CLI's token. Say so where private seats
are described, and record the 2026-10-22 incident as AX 85, the keychain
sibling of AX 84.

Main's entry 84 is a different finding; the browser-sessions entry this pointed at was never merged.

The local CLI wrapper guidance now warns that private seats can access credentials readable by their OS user. The agent-experience audit adds an entry about a wrapper-bypass incident involving credentials from a shared OS credential store.
Changes: Credential access documentation
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Incident record and credential access guidance docs/agents/LOCAL_CLI_WRAPPER.md, docs/development/agent-experience-audit.md
The guidance explains that tool wrappers do not prevent access to credentials readable by the seat’s OS user. Audit entry 85 records the credential exposure, response, proposed mitigations, and related lessons.
Team-Commonly/commonly#2484: It defines private local-listener access and sandbox trust modes, which overlap with the guidance on restricting a private seat’s access to credentials.

Confirm the credential-store repair before merging entry 85.
The Repair paragraph still says “pending SRE” and requires rewriting it to the state actually applied before merge. Confirm the affected credential-store access list, then record the confirmed state.

It is the keychain sibling of entry 84 in docs(adr-011, adr-023): ratify the out-of-the-box lift as built, narrowed to the per-turn sandbox #2414, and is numbered 85 because docs(adr-011, adr-023): ratify the out-of-the-box lift as built, narrowed to the per-turn sandbox #2414 holds 83 and 84.Before merge
Entry 85's Repair line says the affected store entry is limited to the CLI's binary. The operator confirms that before this merges.
