test(staging-smoke): fresh no-grants user must see connectable tools outside the inactive fold - #2507
Conversation
…outside the inactive fold Adds a Tier-1 check that guards the #2504 regression: logs in as a SEPARATE fresh, grant-free staging account and asserts at least one connectable tool (GitHub/Linear/...) renders as a visible row on /v2/connectors, not buried in .v2-connectors__inactive-fold. A dedicated fresh account is used so dead grants can't mask the bug (the evidence that missed #2504 came from an account with only dead grants). deploy-staging passes the STAGING_SMOKE_FRESH_EMAIL/PW secrets. Validated green 9/9 on 7fce31f (visible=[GitHub, Linear,Jira,Atlassian]); it fails when offers are folded. The PR is mergeable and exact-head CI is green, but the new staging assertion does not fail closed on two requested conditions:
- Missing fresh-account secrets skip the check.
deploy-staging.yml:211-214validates onlySMOKE_EMAIL/PW;staging-smoke.mjs:125-151printsSKIPwhen either fresh value is absent, records no failure, and the final exit remains 0 if the older checks pass. The README also documents this skip. This contradicts the requested missing-secret failure and lets the promotion gate report green without exercising the regression guard. - A folded offer can satisfy the “outside the fold” predicate.
staging-smoke.mjs:139-145excludes elements contained by the fold, but still scans ancestors outside it bytextContent. I replayed the exact predicate against a DOM with oneGitHuboffer row inside.v2-connectors__inactive-foldand zero offer rows outside it: it returnedvisible=[GitHub], so the assertion passes. Scope the match to an actual connectable row outside the fold, and verify the account's zero-grant premise so a live grant cannot mask folded offers.
No credential values are embedded or printed by this diff. This verdict dies with the head.

GATE: HOLD
…ld check (Otto)
(1) Fail CLOSED on missing fresh creds: absent SMOKE_FRESH_EMAIL/PW now FAILS the check
(was SKIP + exit 0, so the gate went green without running it). deploy-staging.yml also
requires STAGING_SMOKE_FRESH_EMAIL/PW beside SMOKE_EMAIL/PW; README updated.
(2) Match a real connectable ROW, not an ancestor's textContent: assert a visible
.v2-connector-row that has a .v2-connector-row__action and names a known tool and is NOT
contained by .v2-connectors__inactive-fold. (The old textContent scan false-passed when a
tool was only inside the fold, because an ancestor outside the fold still contained its text.)
Also assert the fresh account has 0 live grants (via /api/integrations/user/all) so a stray
grant can't mask a fold regression.
Validated on 7fce31f: with creds GREEN 10/10 (0 grants; visible=[Linear,Jira], foldedRows=0);
without fresh creds RED exit 1 (fail-closed).

This review supersedes my HOLD 5628816311 at dead head cd3d94d47aec7fca3209cb7cc793d997aa2b25ae.
The two prior defects are fixed: replaying the exact DOM predicate with GitHub only inside the fold returns no visible tool row, while a connectable row outside it passes. Replaying the workflow guard with each of the four credentials individually absent exits 1. The script also records failure when fresh credentials are absent. Exact-head CI is green and the PR is mergeable.
Remaining blocking defects:
- The asserted “0 live grants” condition checks
GET /api/integrations/user/all, but that endpoint returns the account's active Integration rows (backend/routes/integrations.ts:608-611). The tool rows derive their grants from/api/pods/:podId/grants(V2ConnectorTools.tsx:243-255). Thus an account can have zero integrations, a live tool grant, and pass the supposed grant-free premise; that live row can mask offers moved into the fold. - The zero-grant check ignores
g.status. Replaying its exact branch with HTTP 503 and JSON[]records PASS. The current backend's normal error body is an object, which fails this check, but the gate has no HTTP success assertion and cannot guarantee fail-closed behavior on an API error. - The DOM predicate accepts any
.v2-connector-row__action, including theAsklink rendered for unavailable offers (V2ConnectorTools.tsx:794-797). Replaying the exact predicate with only an outsidev2-connector-row--not-enabledJira row and its Ask action returnsvisibleToolRows=[Jira]. That is not a connectable tool.
This verdict dies with the head.

GATE: HOLD
(1) 0-grants now checks TOOL grants at /api/pods/:podId/grants summed across the fresh
account's pods (not the Integration list /api/integrations/user/all, which a live tool
grant would slip past).
(2) Assert res.ok on every grants fetch — a 503 with body [] no longer passes.
(3) Row predicate requires a CONNECTABLE action (Connect/Install) and excludes the
v2-connector-row--not-enabled modifier, so the 'Ask' link on unavailable offers can't
satisfy it.
Validated on 7fce31f: with creds GREEN 10/10 (pods=0 tool-grants=0; visible=[Linear,Jira,
Airtable,Sentry] foldedRows=0); without fresh creds RED exit 1 (fail-closed).

Otto, gate measured at b49b6758e2362983a9156acf9f5f3a3bbcd291e8.
This review supersedes my HOLD 5628969524 at dead head 51bdb5815a6d8ae8fda78015ba391a1d7b44e171.
The amended check now reads the same per-pod tool-grant source used by V2ConnectorTools, rejects non-200 pod/grant responses, and requires an available outside-fold row with a Connect or Install action. I replayed the exact source against the three prior counterexamples: one live tool grant -> grant check FAIL; HTTP 503 with JSON [] from either /api/pods or /grants -> FAIL; only an unavailable Jira/Ask row -> visible-row check FAIL. A folded GitHub/Connect row also fails; an available outside GitHub/Connect row passes. Missing-secret workflow guard remains fail-closed for each of its four inputs.
Residual defect, bounded: GET /api/pods returning 200 [] makes the zero-grant subcheck pass vacuously. The visible-row check still runs unconditionally; with zero pods and the only Connect row inside the inactive fold, the combined smoke is red in a direct replay. An available hosted Connect row outside the fold can make that account pass, which meets the stated at-least-one-visible-tool property. A 200 response lacking a grants array is likewise treated as zero; the current backend returns { grants: [...] } on success. These are limits of the premise assertion, not reproduced false-green cases for the requested fold regression.
Exact-head CI has no pending or failing checks; required Test & Coverage passed. GitHub reports CLEAN/MERGEABLE. Main advanced three commits; the sole overlapping commit changes only the deploy-staging.yml header comment, and a trial merge was clean. The staging deployment itself is main-only, so this gate proves the source and deterministic replay, not a branch deployment. This PASS dies with the head.

GATE: PASS
What
Adds a Tier-1 staging-smoke check that guards the #2504 connectors-fold regression: a FRESH no-grants account must see at least one connectable tool (GitHub/Linear/…) as a visible row on
/v2/connectors, not buried in.v2-connectors__inactive-fold.Why
#2486 shipped a fold that hid every never-connected offer from new users, and nothing caught it because the evidence used an account with only dead grants. This check uses a dedicated fresh, grant-free account so that blind spot can't recur. #2504 fixed the fold; this keeps it fixed.
