docs(plans): what the staging walk taught about revoke reach and walk instances (TASK-281) - #2542
Conversation
… instances (TASK-281) Two notes from the 2026-10-23 staging walk in the hosted-MCP scope doc. §9: our removal sends one token, while the page an entry names revokes a whole application for the account. Sentry's page lists its MCP server's own upstream application, never our client, so a revoke there cuts every MCP client that authorization serves and cannot show whether our revoke took. A row learns of a vendor's revoke only when a refresh is refused. §10 step 7: a walk on another instance needs that instance's own key ring and backend URL, and an agent runtime for C3 and C6. 492-492: 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winDo not infer cross-instance row absence from vendor revocation.
The vendor page can affect authorization used by rows on other instances, but it does not remove those Commonly rows. Section 9 says an affected row remains connected until token use or refresh is refused. Check or delete the row on the other instance, or use a fresh account, before claiming cross-instance isolation.
Suggested documentation fix
- A cleanup revoke on the vendor's page reaches as far as §9 says, so a walk's account holds no row on another instance. + A cleanup revoke on the vendor's page can affect rows on other instances, but does not remove them; check or delete the row on the other instance, or use a fresh account, before claiming cross-instance isolation.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

…ctly (TASK-281) A refresh runs when the recorded lifetime is missing or ends within a minute, not only once it has run out. The walk-instance note now states its account rule as a rule: a walk uses an account with no row on another instance, since that row can lose its authorization with the walk's and still read connected. DOCS-GATE: PASS @ 770e5e2
Checked the one changed file (docs/plans/hosted-mcp-connection-scope.md) against the code and the walk it describes.
Matches:
- "Our removal revokes one token; the vendor's page revokes a whole client": the Sentry entry's
revoke.pageandcimdclient are atbackend/integrations/hostedMcp/sentry.ts:23–28, as cited. - Failure path:
hostedMcpCredentialService.tsrefuses a refresh withdefinitiveon 400/401 and callsmarkError(lines 254 and 461), andhostedMcpToolDefinitions.ts:306–310maps 401/403 tocredential_rejected. Both match. - Walk-instance bullet: #2529 (staging backend URL) and #2533 (own key ring,
connectorSecrets.enabledink8s/helm/commonly/templates/secrets/api-keys.yaml:207) are both on main, so the fixes it names are real. - The Sentry
deleteendpoint exists atsrc/sentry/api/endpoints/api_authorizations.pyin getsentry/sentry, and getsentry/sentry-mcp's README describes the server as upstream middleware. - No infra identifiers or secrets.
Notes (non-blocking):
- "The code these two paragraphs cite is read at
main87687037": that SHA exists, and the cited line 254 matches there, but87687037is not an ancestor of currentorigin/main. Say "read at commit87687037" or cite the current main SHA. - I checked that Sentry's
deleteexists, not its body. The claim that it "deletes every token and pending grant that authorization covers" is unread by me. - The staging walk's own record is not in the repo (same as #2536), so the walk-specific sentences rest on the operator's report.

Docs gate: no blocking defect found in the complete one-file, +5/-0 diff against merge-base/main 8768703. Diff check is clean; REVIEW.md and the reviewer checklist are unchanged from my preceding gate.
Verified the cited removal and credential paths at that main revision: removal selects the row's refresh token, falling back to its access token; it does not enumerate another row's tokens. The adjacent qualification correctly leaves the provider's revocation reach to that provider. A tool HTTP 401/403 yields credential_rejected without marking the row; a definitive refresh refusal marks error. Freshness uses the recorded expiry with a one-minute margin, and missing expiry is not fresh. The two UI strings do currently tell the person to remove/review Commonly.
Independently read Sentry's authorization deletion source: deletion covers tokens and pending grants for the selected user's application authorization, including its organization boundary. Its MCP architecture confirms separate MCP and upstream Sentry credentials. Thus the paragraph's “that authorization serves” qualification matters: this is loss of upstream access for clients sharing that authorization, not proof that the MCP grants themselves have been deleted. MCP refresh can also reuse a cached upstream token before probing it; the paragraph does not establish immediate detection. Public AS metadata independently matches the entry's CIMD support and revocation endpoint.
Checked the callback's connector-secret writes, key-ring configuration requirements, backend-derived callback/CIMD URLs and Helm wiring. #2529 and #2533 are merged ancestors of the cited main. The separate-instance walk prerequisites and isolated-account cleanup rule follow those boundaries; C3/C6 still require an actual agent call.
Nonblocking wording precision for the next edit: make the headline “our removal sends one token” (the body already says this), and say “definitive refresh refusal” since transient refresh failures preserve connected status. Keep the Sentry deletion claim bounded to the selected authorization, as the body currently does.
Evidence is source review and unauthenticated public metadata, not my own signed-in vendor revocation or staging walk. No application tests were run for this prose-only change.

These are dated paragraphs with no header "Amended" line, and they touch no line that #2420 changes, so the two PRs merge in either order.
