Change

Document the On my computer flow from merged main: add a computer, install an agent on it, read connection status, request a fresh agent key, and remove or replace a computer. The page is in the Building Agents navigation.

The removal and reconnect sections use the behavior merged in #2521 and #2517.

Checks

  • Mintlify broken-links: passed
  • git diff --check: passed
  • docs.json parses and the page target exists

Factual and UI review requested at full head e6b7f3f.

Handle partial registration before chaining installation.

commonly daemon register persists the local daemon record before sending the initial heartbeat. If that heartbeat fails, the command sets a nonzero exit status, so && skips commonly daemon install. Rerunning the full command then fails because the local daemon is already registered.

Document this recovery path instead of requiring users to rerun registration:

State the local adapter prerequisite.

If the selected computer lacks the Claude Code or Codex CLI, installing Commonly and selecting an adapter does not install that CLI. The daemon cannot detect an adapter, so the agent never reaches the promised running state. Tell readers to install and configure the selected local CLI before adding the agent. (github.com)

Docs accuracy gate at e6b7f3f, checked against origin/main. This is one complete pass: every blocker is listed below.

Blockers

  1. "Under More ways, choose Add a computer" (line 12): that label doesn't exist, and the block isn't always there.
    • The disclosure reads "Other ways to connect" (en.json:1583, rendered at V2AgentBYO.tsx:1228). "More ways" is only the test id byo-more-ways.
    • Add a computer renders only when the account has no computer yet (V2AgentBYO.tsx:1229, machines.length === 0). Say how a second computer is added, which is the CLI setup line.
  2. "You can choose Claude Code or Codex as its local adapter" (line 26) has no platform caveat.
    • On Linux, WSL included, the bubblewrap sandbox can't start Claude Code (V2AgentBYO.tsx:70-74; gate at cli/src/lib/adapters/claude.js:695-703). The walked table agrees: Claude Code is Mac only, and Codex runs on Mac and Linux.
    • The default option, "Auto-detect on that computer", is also missing (en.json:1422). With it, the daemon tries claude, then codex (cli/src/commands/daemon.js:140-149).
  3. The Regenerate key / Reconnect step skips the page in between (line 46). In Settings → Control, both are links to the Bring your own page with ?reconnect=1&mode=machine (V2AgentControlSection.tsx:19-30). The daemon gets the request only after the user presses Reconnect there (V2AgentBYO.tsx:1203-1207 → /api/agent-binding/reconnect). Reconnect is also offered for the stale state ("Not seen in N min"), not only for a disconnected agent.
  4. Removing a computer leaves the login service behind (line 54). commonly daemon unregister deletes the registration and the local credential (daemon.js:128-135, :205-218). It doesn't uninstall the launchd/systemd service, which then crash-loops without a credential (daemon.js:275-276). Add commonly daemon uninstall, as agents/daemon.mdx:66-67 already does.

Nits

  • "Removing a computer … retires that credential" is true in the backend (machineService.ts:205-242). Removal is CLI-only, though: the frontend never calls DELETE /api/machines/:id. Say "with daemon unregister" so no reader looks for a button.
  • The status states on lines 39-40 leave out "Disconnected: key revoked" (agentConnection.ts:1-18).

Verified correct

  • The setup line matches DAEMON_SETUP_COMMAND exactly (V2AgentBYO.tsx:67).
  • The reload hint matches en.json:1565. On my computer appears once a machine exists (V2AgentBYO.tsx:1045-1056).
  • The machine credential is stored locally at 0600 (cli/src/lib/daemon-store.js:22-23,67-70). No runtime key is shown on this path (V2AgentBYO.tsx:603-610).
  • The daemon rotates the key locally and restarts the seat (daemon-supervisor.js:218-237).
  • A revoked computer key requires re-registering (agentBinding.ts:395-401). The installer-or-admin gate is at agentBinding.ts:380-386.
  • The move control in Settings → Runtime posts to /api/agent-binding/move (V2AgentRuntimeGrants.tsx:203). Identity and memory survive machine removal (machineService.ts:224-230).
  • daemon status --verbose exists, and daemon install uses launchd on Mac and systemd on Linux.
  • The nav entry and the /agents/daemon link resolve.
  • "Does not silently become a hosted agent" is consistent with the code (a hosted agent can't be moved onto a computer, agentBinding.ts:336-338). I found no fallback path, but an absence can't be proven.

HEAD: 39c0af8 — GATE: PASS (docs accuracy re-gate, one complete pass)

All four blockers from my e6b7f3f HOLD are fixed.

  1. The page path is right. "Other ways to connect" (en.json:1583) is shown only when you have no computer yet (V2AgentBYO.tsx:1229). A second computer gets the same setup command, run on that computer.
  2. The adapter defaults and platforms are right. The page names "Auto-detect on that computer" (en.json:1422), which tries Claude Code, then Codex. Claude Code is Mac only; Codex runs on Mac and Linux, including WSL.
  3. Reconnect is described in full. Settings → Control links to Bring your own agent, and pressing Reconnect there sends the request to the daemon. The stale state is covered.
  4. Removal is complete. commonly daemon uninstall is added after unregister; the command exists at cli/src/commands/daemon.js:239-283.

The state list now includes "Disconnected: key revoked". These labels match en.json:1399-1403: "Not connected yet", "Not seen in N min", "Disconnected: key revoked". The Agents card does render the connection label (V2YourTeamPage.tsx uses connectionLabel).

Commands run (detached checkout /tmp/lumen-review, removed and pruned after):

  • git worktree add --detach /tmp/lumen-review pr2550, then git rev-parse HEAD → 39c0af8; it contains current main
  • cat docs-site/agents/on-my-computer.mdx
  • sed -n 1,25p frontend/src/v2/utils/agentConnection.ts
  • grep in en.json for each quoted UI label
  • grep -rln connectionLabel frontend/src/v2
  • grep -n "machines.length === 0" V2AgentBYO.tsx
  • grep -n uninstall cli/src/commands/daemon.js
  • grep '"agents/on-my-computer"' docs-site/docs.json → line 78

Nits, not blocking

  • "Regenerate key appears for a connected agent; Reconnect also appears when…" reads as two buttons. It is one button whose label changes: Reconnect when the key is revoked or the agent stale, Regenerate key when it is connected (V2AgentControlSection.tsx:19-28). Try "The button reads Reconnect when … and Regenerate key when connected".
  • The state list leaves out "Ready on Commonly" (available, en.json:1400).

No token, email address or infra identifier appears in the PR.

@lumen Please re-gate #2550 after its rebase onto main d67c6ab, at full head 35065ce. HEAD: 35065ce — GATE: PASS

Docs re-gate after the rebase. The previous pass was at 39c0af8.

Commands run

  • git fetch origin main && git fetch origin pull/2550/head:pr2550 gave 35065ce. git merge-base --is-ancestor origin/main pr2550 succeeds.
  • git range-diff origin/main...39c0af83 origin/main...pr2550: all three commits keep the same content, apart from an added Agent-Model: trailer on each.
  • git diff --stat origin/main pr2550: only docs-site/agents/on-my-computer.mdx (+68) and docs-site/docs.json (+1) change.
  • docs.json parses as JSON. The nav shows agents/connect → agents/settings → agents/on-my-computer → agents/adapters, so both entries are kept and neither is duplicated.
  • I re-checked the guide against main as it now stands, since main moved after my last gate:
    • DAEMON_SETUP_COMMAND is unchanged in V2AgentBYO.tsx:69 and V2AgentRuntimeGrants.tsx:58.
    • V2AgentControlSection.tsx is unchanged since 39c0af8, so the Regenerate/Reconnect text still holds.
    • The only change in Runtime grants (managed === false → cli) affects how unmanaged wrappers are labelled, not daemon-run agents, so Settings → Runtime in the guide still holds.

No new findings.

HEAD: de0c42e — GATE: PASS

Re-stamp after the CodeRabbit fix. My previous PASS was at 35065ce.

Commands run

  • git fetch origin main && git fetch origin pull/2550/head:pr2550 → de0c42e.
  • git log --oneline 35065ce2..pr2550 shows one commit, de0c42e. git diff 35065ce2 pr2550 touches only the revoked-computer paragraph in docs-site/agents/on-my-computer.mdx.
  • I checked each new claim against cli/src/commands/daemon.js on origin/main:
    • Unregister before registering again is required. register throws "A local daemon is already registered…" when a local record exists (:174-176), so the old wording, "register that computer again", would have failed as written.
    • "sign in again with commonly login if needed". unregister builds its client with requireUserToken(record.instanceUrl) (:209-212), so it needs a live user login, not the revoked machine key.
    • "Unregister also works when the server has already removed the computer." unregisterDaemonMachine ignores a 404 from DELETE /api/machines/:id, then removes the local record (:128-135).
  • The branch is behind main. git diff --stat $(git merge-base origin/main pr2550) origin/main on cli/src/commands/daemon.js, docs-site/docs.json and V2AgentControlSection.tsx shows no changes, so my earlier checks against main still hold.

No findings.
