fix(cli): keep the temp-cleanup guard's probe root short (TASK-436) - #2838
TASK-436 asked for the CLI temp-directory leak fix. PR #2574 already merged that fix on 2026-10-24: tests track their mkdtemp paths and remove them in teardown, and CI runs npm run test:temp-cleanup.
Running that guard locally showed a defect in it. The guard runs each file under a probe TMPDIR. On macOS that root sits deep under /var/folders/..., and the provider-proxy tests bind Unix sockets inside it. The socket path then exceeds the ~104-byte limit, and three opencode tests fail with listen EINVAL. This PR creates the probe root under /tmp instead. That is also the default TMPDIR on the Linux CI runner, so CI behaviour is unchanged.
Verification
npm run test:temp-cleanup -- __tests__/adapters.opencode.test.mjs: 70/70 passed on both passes. Dirs and bytes that survived each pass: 0 / 0.
Before this change, the same command failed 3 tests on macOS with the socket error.
The guard runs each CLI file under a probe TMPDIR. On macOS that root sits
deep under /var/folders, and the provider-proxy tests bind Unix sockets
inside it, so the socket path exceeds the ~104-byte limit and three
opencode tests fail with listen EINVAL. Create the probe root under /tmp,
which is also the default TMPDIR on the Linux CI runner.
Measured: npm run test:temp-cleanup -- __tests__/adapters.opencode.test.mjs
passes 70/70 twice, with 0 dirs / 0 bytes surviving each pass.

The cleanup verification script uses /tmp as the probe directory root on macOS and tmpdir() on other platforms. A comment describes how deep temporary paths can exceed macOS Unix-socket path limits.

Summary
Select the probe directory root cli/scripts/verify-temp-cleanup.mjs
The probe directory root is /tmp on macOS and tmpdir() on other platforms. A comment documents the macOS socket-path constraint.
The change is likely correct, but without the requested macOS regression test, the socket-path failure could return unnoticed.

Gate on #2838 at e13f3c2 (TASK-436). Haiku seat. One file: cli/scripts/verify-temp-cleanup.mjs.
Verdict: PASS. The probe root moves to /tmp, and the guard passes on macOS.
What I checked:
Root cause confirmed. At e13f3c20^ (deep $TMPDIR) the guard fails on macOS with 3 listen EINVAL on provider-proxy.sock, which is 3 failed, 67 passed. At e13f3c20 the same command passes 70/70 on both passes, with 0 dirs/0 bytes before and after each pass.
The guard's own cleanup still runs in finally. The tmpdir import is removed and nothing else used it.
CI calls this script at .github/workflows/tests.yml:298 and does not change its root.
Non-blocking: join('/tmp', …) is Linux and macOS only. A native Windows dev running npm run test:temp-cleanup gets a failed mkdtemp, because \tmp does not exist. A process.platform === 'win32' ? tmpdir() : '/tmp' guard would keep Windows working. Fine to land as is, or follow up.
Hardcoding /tmp breaks native Windows, which has no /tmp. The short root is
only needed where the socket path limit bites (macOS), so use it there and
fall back to os.tmpdir() elsewhere.

Re-stamp on #2838 at c3a8286 (Haiku seat). The delta over e13f3c2 is one platform switch in cli/scripts/verify-temp-cleanup.mjs.
Verdict: PASS.darwin gets /tmp, the same string I ran at e13f3c2 (70/70 on both passes, 0 dirs and 0 bytes left behind). Every other platform gets os.tmpdir(), which is $TMPDIR or /tmp on Linux, the same root CI already used. The Windows case is fixed, since no /tmp is joined there.
I did not re-run the guard at this head. The darwin path is the verified one, and the import is used. Lint was reported clean by the author.
Add a test that runs test:temp-cleanup with the OpenCode adapter target and a deliberately deep TMPDIR. Assert that the probe uses the short macOS root and leaves no probe directories. The test must fail if Line 59 reverts to unconditional tmpdir(); the reported manual run does not protect that behavior in CI.
As per coding guidelines, “New code path ≠ test: flag it. Name the specific test that should exist.” As per path instructions, “A test that would still pass with the fix reverted is not a test.”

This is a one-file change to CLI test tooling. On darwin the probe root moves under /tmp; elsewhere it stays on tmpdir(), so Linux CI behaves the same. That fixes the macOS socket-path limit noted in #2815. It merges cleanly on top of #2815, so order doesn't matter. One wording note: the body says the root moves under /tmp everywhere, but the code does it only on darwin, which is the better choice. Nothing to change.
