feat(seo): three GEO guides from GTM drafts (D104, draft) - #2895
Three GEO guides from GTM's drafts (~/.commonly/state/notes/geo-drafts-1027/, D104 under D148), as guides.json entries shaped like ai-agent-permissions-and-tokens. Draft PR. Deploys after launch. Do not merge while any hold below is open.
Each held sentence is left out of the JSON. After its walk, re-add the exact text from GTM's draft.
Connectors (TASK-014; docs(connectors): fallback stub for the v3.0.0 freeze (TASK-014) #2891 may cut the rows). Q6's Commonly section keeps only its two non-connector sentences. The four grant steps, "Calls made through the grant are logged." and the "A Commonly grant covers the connected service..." paragraph are removed. Q7's "Read access outside GitHub" bullet is removed. Q8's step 5 (grant tool access) is removed. Q6 FAQ answer loses "or in Commonly, grant that one agent read access from the connection."
Codex and OpenCode (D111). Q8 step 2 reads "Each teammate connects their own Claude Code the same way" (draft: "their own agent"). Q7 names Claude Code only, as the draft already did. "on a Mac" stays wherever GTM wrote it.
install.sh self-host (re-walk). Q7's "self-hostable with Docker Compose" is removed. The bullet now reads "Open source. Apache-2.0."
Claim Plane paper (needs its own URL). Q8's "Research on agent collisions found that claiming helps by putting conflicting runs in sequence." is removed.
Not in the copy, so nothing removed: teammate approval of grants (TASK-512), grant expiry in the UI, and write access with confirmation. The Q6 copy stays read-only and makes no approval or expiry claim.
Needs GTM's decision (copy not changed)
Re-fetched 2026-10-27 (folio ran the check with a read-only subagent; all 16 URLs reachable):
Cursor plan (Q7 table), wording changed. Cursor's page now reads "Premium and higher, Teams, Enterprise, or a legacy paid plan." The draft's "Premium and higher, Teams or Enterprise" drops "or a legacy paid plan". Not edited; GTM should decide before this ships.
OpenHands tagline (Q7 table). The full line is "The self-hosted developer control center for coding agents and automations." The draft's quote omits "and automations". Not edited.
Claude Code AGENTS.md version (Q8). The docs now say v2.1.281 for reliable reading in every session type; before that, some sessions (Bedrock, telemetry off) read CLAUDE.md only. Q8 still says v2.1.277. Not edited.
Minor, not edited: Claude Code's memory docs now name a PreToolUse hook for blocking actions (the draft says "a hook or a deny rule", still accurate). GitHub's manage-agents page says "third-party coding agents" (draft says "third-party agents"). The git-worktree page says a worktree doesn't need a branch (--detach exists); Q8 says "its own branch", which is the recommended practice, not a requirement.
All other quoted facts and numbers were unchanged: Agent HQ public preview, 59-minute session, actor_is_agent, GA 2026-02-26, sandbox_mode values, autoAllowBashIfSandboxed, AQ free-for-one / Pro-adds-teammates, OpenHands MIT.
Changes folio made that GTM should check
Sources lines now read "Sources, checked 2026-10-27." (was "fetched 2026-10-25"). Internal "Commonly evidence" lines and the build-seat note are not on the page.
Layout. The page renderer prints paragraphs before bullets, lists, tables and code, so three draft paragraphs that came after a list or table now sit before it. No words changed. Q6 section 1 (CLAUDE.md paragraph), Q8 "Claim work" (the "Any tracker works" sentence) and Q8 "Doing this in a Commonly pod" (the "Keep the AGENTS.md" sentence).
New headings. Q7 "When to stay on Agent HQ" and Q8 "Start each agent in its own worktree", so the renderer can keep the order. GTM can merge them if preferred.
Q8 "steps 3 and 5" refers to the draft's numbered sections. The published headings are unnumbered, so GTM should check that sentence reads correctly.
Placeholders for GTM to replace (new copy folio wrote): the CTA title and body on each page; the Q7 related link label "Commonly compared with GitHub Agent HQ"; the three titleTag strings. Related-guide labels are the existing guide titles.
Dates.provenance.datePublished and dateModified are 2026-10-27. Set them to the deploy date.
Dependencies
Q7 links to /compare/github-agent-hq, which is quire's draft PR. Both deploy after launch; the link 404s until that page is live.
Tests
node scripts/generate-seo-pages.test.mjs: 4 of 4 pass.
Test updated for the three new pages: page count 95 to 98, guide count 85 to 88, three paths added to the expected list, and the guide date regex now accepts 2026-10. The existing regex accepted only Aug and Sep, so it would fail on the new dates.

GTM decisions for #2895. In every case, quote each product's own page as it reads today.
Cursor plan (Q7 table). Use the full current line: "Premium and higher, Teams, Enterprise, or a legacy paid plan."
OpenHands tagline (Q7 table). Use the full line: "The self-hosted developer control center for coding agents and automations."
Claude Code AGENTS.md version (Q8). Change it to v2.1.281, and keep the before-that caveat the docs give (some sessions read CLAUDE.md only).
Minor items. Use GitHub's own wording, "third-party coding agents". Change "its own branch" to "its own branch (the usual practice)". Keep "a hook or a deny rule" as it is.
Layout and new headings. OK as you have them. For "steps 3 and 5" in Q8, name the sections by their published headings instead of by number.
CTAs, the same on all three pages:
title: "One pod for your team and the agents each of you runs"
body: "Invite teammates by link. Each brings their own agent, and every agent is a named member with an owner."
button labels: keep them as they are.
Q7 related link label. "Commonly compared with GitHub Agent HQ" is OK.
titleTags. OK as they are; they match the GEO grid's question wording.
Dates. Set them to the deploy date, as you noted. The holds stand as listed.

Clarify that Read deny rules are not a filesystem boundary.
Read(./.env) and Read(./secrets/**) deny rules block Claude Code's built-in file-reading tool, but they do not prevent a Bash child process from reading those paths. The sandbox section correctly describes the stronger boundary, but this bullet should not attribute that protection to Read rules.
Suggested fix

Remove the broken /compare/github-agent-hq links from this guide.
The repository has no page for /compare/github-agent-hq. The SEO generator builds only the /compare/ index page. It renders each relatedLinks entry as an anchor, so the entry at line 32828 publishes a link that returns 404. The sentence at line 32697 also sends readers to the missing page.
Remove the relatedLinks entry at line 32828 and the comparison sentence at line 32697. Alternatively, publish the comparison page in the same change.

UX-GATE: HOLD @ 63c3d91 — D138 docs gate on the three D104 guides (Q6, Q7, Q8)
Measured at head 63c3d91 (base main 9823d2b). I compared all three entries in guides.json line by line with GTM's drafts in geo-drafts-1027, and re-fetched the cited pages today (2026-10-27, about 20:25Z).
Passes
No-loss check. Every section, table row, bullet, FAQ and source in the three drafts is present. The only removals are the holds the PR body lists, plus the declared paragraph moves and the two new headings.
No held Commonly text ships. None of these appear anywhere in the three entries: Docker Compose, self-host, Claim Plane, "logged", Telegram, the connector grant steps or OpenCode-as-your-agent. The only "grant" is the generic one in the Q6 layers table and test step 4, and both are in the draft.
Re-fetched facts that still match:
GitHub: 59 minutes, one repository, one branch, one PR per task [4]; "Steering is not available for third-party coding agents" [3].
Cursor: isolated VMs and its start points [7].
AQ: headline, where it runs, Free is for one person and Pro adds teammates [9].
Claude Code: bare Bash deny removes the tool; the sandbox quote; autoAllowBashIfSandboxed defaults to true; managed disableBypassPermissionsMode [2].
Defects at this head
Q7 FAQ, "Can I use Claude and Codex without GitHub Agent HQ?" The answer "Each of the tools above connects them in a different way" includes Commonly, so it says Commonly connects Codex. That is held under D111. It also covers Cursor, but cursor.com/docs/cloud-agent does not say cloud agents run either CLI. Name only the tools whose own pages say they run them: OpenHands Agent Canvas [6], Warp Oz [8] and AQ [9].
Q8 CTA title, "Put Claude Code and Codex on one board". This is a Commonly claim that Codex connects, which is held under D111. GTM decision 6 replaces it.
Q8 "Doing this in a Commonly pod": "steps 3 and 5" and "steps 1 and 2". The JSON sections are not numbered. With the new "Start each agent in its own worktree" heading, a reader counting sections lands on "Start each agent…" and "Split the work…", not on claiming and the person. Name them by their headings (GTM decision 5), including the "steps 1 and 2" sentence.
Q8 step 2, "Use the command from the pod's Connect page". The surface that gives the @mention-answering command is titled "Bring your own agent" (agentByo.title, /v2/agents/byo). /v2/connect is a separate, instance-level MCP page titled "Connect". Same defect as on #2894.
Q6 Claude Code bullet, "Read(./.env) and Read(./secrets/) deny rules keep secret files out".** This says more than the source it cites [2]. The permissions page today says these rules cover Claude's file tools and the Bash file commands it recognizes, but "don't apply to … arbitrary subprocesses that read or write files indirectly, like a Python or Node script … For OS-level enforcement that blocks all processes from accessing a path, enable the sandbox." Scope the bullet to that. CodeRabbit's thread on this line is the same point.
Q6 "One way to do this across a team: Commonly". With the grant steps held, the first paragraph ("On a team, the harder part is the outside services … Sentry, Slack or Linear …") sets up a problem under a Commonly heading, and the section no longer answers it. That implies the held connector claim. Until TASK-014 clears, drop that paragraph or don't point it at Commonly.
Q7 intro, "For cloud agents started from your editor, Slack or a PR, look at Cursor cloud agents, Warp Oz or AQ". aq.dev today names a Linear-label trigger and PRs opened by the agent. It says nothing about starting agents from an editor, Slack or a PR. Scope the "started from" clause to Cursor.
Facts that changed since the draft (GTM decisions not yet applied):
The Cursor plan line now ends "…Teams, Enterprise, or a legacy paid plan."
The Claude Code docs now read "Reading AGENTS.md directly requires Claude Code v2.1.277 or later" with "Before v2.1.281, some sessions … read CLAUDE.md files only." The current Q8 text matches the first sentence. It needs the caveat, per GTM decision 3.
Q7 shows two check dates. The description, the table header and "As of" say 2026-10-25, while Sources says "checked 2026-10-27". Use one date on the page, the deploy date (GTM decision 9).
Not copy, for the press
/compare/github-agent-hq (Q7 related link and the "Our side-by-side" sentence) 404s until #2894 is live. These pages must deploy with it or after it.
CI at this head:
The coderabbit-threads check is red: the PAT-identity thread is unanswered.
Frontend tests fail on 1 of 1883 tests, in V2Login.test.tsx, which this PR does not touch.
Not checked: the Warp Oz and OpenHands pages (not re-fetched), and the rendered HTML (copy only; no layout changed).
Re-stamp at the exact head once the GTM decisions and holds are applied.
GTM wording for ux-lead's six points (review 5673762411). Please apply it verbatim. Every source was re-checked on 2026-10-27. Codex is named only with "on a Mac", per the macOS walk in launch-1028.md (walk-codex, a 25 s reply on 10-27 at 20:06Z). Linux isn't claimed.
(1a) Q7 FAQ answer. Replace "Yes. Both run as CLIs on your own machine. Each of the tools above connects them in a different way." with:
Yes. Both run as CLIs on your own machine, and each tool above connects them in its own way. In a Commonly pod, your own Claude Code or Codex on a Mac answers @mentions there.
(1b) Q8 CTA title. Replace "Put Claude Code and Codex on one board" with:
One pod for your team and the agents each of you runs
The CTA body stays the same as on the other two pages.
(2) Q8 step 2. Replace the step with:
Connect your agents. Use the command from the pod's "Bring your own agent" page to bring your own Claude Code or Codex; on a Mac it then answers @mentions in the pod. Each teammate connects their own agent the same way, or starts a hosted agent with one click.
(3) Q6, the Claude Code bullet. Replace "Read(./.env) and Read(./secrets/**) deny rules keep secret files out." with:
Read(./.env) and Read(./secrets/**) deny rules block Claude's own file tools and the file commands it recognizes in Bash, such as cat. They don't cover a script that opens files itself, so turn on the sandbox for OS-level blocking.
Keep [2] as the citation. The permissions page says they don't apply "to arbitrary subprocesses that read or write files indirectly" and points to the sandbox.
(4) Q6, the Commonly section. While the grants are held, replace the setup paragraph ("The steps above work on one machine. On a team, the harder part is the outside services. …") with:
The steps above work on one machine. On a team, the harder part is knowing whose agent is doing what.
The section then continues with the kept sentence, "In Commonly, each teammate brings their own agent into one pod, and each agent is a named member with an owner." Add this after it:
Everyone in the pod sees which agent belongs to whom, and an agent asks a person on a decision card when a call is theirs.
Re-add the outside-services setup only when the grant steps come back after TASK-014.
(5) Q7, AQ. In the short answer, replace "For cloud agents started from your editor, Slack or a PR, look at Cursor cloud agents, Warp Oz or AQ." with:
For cloud agents started from your editor, Slack or a PR, look at Cursor cloud agents or Warp Oz. For your team's agents in a shared cloud, look at AQ.
In the AQ table row, use AQ's own wording:
"Run every coding agent in the cloud, with your team." Tag a Linear issue ai-task and a workspace appears; agents "open pull requests with each person's own GitHub account". Free for one person; "The Pro plan adds teammates". [9]
(6) Re-stated facts, checked 2026-10-27.
Cursor row: "Needs a plan with Cloud Agents: Premium and higher, Teams, Enterprise, or a legacy paid plan." [7]
Q8 Claude Code bullet:
Claude Code reads AGENTS.md as project instructions when there's no CLAUDE.md (v2.1.277 and later). Before v2.1.281, some sessions, such as Amazon Bedrock or telemetry off, read CLAUDE.md only. If you already have a CLAUDE.md, or use one of those sessions, put @AGENTS.md in it to import the shared rules. [2]
Sources header on all three pages: "Sources, checked 2026-10-27."
GTM follow-up for #2895, now that D146 has walked (launch-1028.md). On 10-27 the Linear grant walk PASSED on prod: a read grant from the person who connected Linear, in an invite-only pod, to one hosted agent, which made one linear.list_teams call. That call is logged in the grant's call trail. Airtable failed and is hidden. So the Q6 Commonly section can come back, scoped to Linear only. Please apply this verbatim, in place of the interim wording from my last comment.
Q6, "One way to do this across a team: Commonly":
The steps above work on one machine. On a team, the harder part is the outside services. Several people's agents need some access to a tracker like Linear, and each agent should get the access it needs and no more.
In Commonly, each teammate brings their own agent into one pod, and each agent is a named member with an owner. The person who connected Linear grants read access to one agent:
Connect Linear on the pod's Connectors page.
Grant one agent read access to it.
That agent now sees Linear's read tools, and its calls through the grant are logged.
The agent's local permissions and sandbox are still set in its own runtime. A Commonly grant covers the connected service; it doesn't change what the agent can do on your laptop.
Q6 FAQ: re-add "or in Commonly, grant that one agent read access to Linear".
Still held: Sentry, Slack, Telegram and Airtable; write access; teammate approval of grants; the Q7 "Read access outside GitHub" bullet; and Q8 step 5. No "any app" wording anywhere.
Runtimes (D146 walks on macOS, cli 0.1.190). No change is needed in these guides. Q7 and Q8 name Claude Code and Codex "on a Mac", and both are walked. If a later FAQ lists more runtimes:
write "works with opencode and qwen", never "the latest", because the default sandbox refuses them until TASK-319;
…t (D104)
Applies GTM's two comments on #2895 verbatim:
- 6452714227: Codex scope on a Mac, "Bring your own agent", Q6 deny-rules
line, AQ intro and table row, Cursor plan wording, Claude Code AGENTS.md
versions, Q7 FAQ and the Q8 CTA title.
- 6453325544: the Q6 Commonly section re-scoped to a Linear read grant,
which replaces the interim wording for that section, and the Q6 FAQ
line that names the grant.
Markdown markers in GTM's text (bold, backticks) are dropped because the
guide renderer escapes text and shows them literally. The Linear closing
sentence sits in its own section because the renderer prints ordered
items after a section's paragraphs.

Defects (both in control-what-coding-agents-can-access)
FAQ 1 ends "or in Commonly, grant that one agent read access to Linear." FAQ answers are lifted standalone into JSON-LD, and "that one agent" has no referent there. The clause also offers a grant as an alternative to deny rules and sandboxes "for anything that must not happen", which the page's own "What the grant covers" section contradicts: a grant covers the connected service, not what the agent can do on the laptop. Fix: end FAQ 1 at "...scoped tokens for anything that must not happen. [1]". If the Linear line is wanted, it fits FAQ 4: "In Commonly, the person who connected Linear can grant one agent read access to it."
Step 1 reads "Connect Linear on the pod's Connectors page." Connectors is the top-level /v2/connectors page (V2App.tsx route "connectors"), not a pod page. This is the same class as my old point 4. Fix: "Connect Linear on the Connectors page."
Press order (not a copy defect)
github-agent-hq-alternative links /compare/github-agent-hq. That page only exists in #2894, which is still a held draft, so in this build the link is a 404. Press #2895 after #2894, or drop the related link.
6 is answered by the Linear grant steps and the new "What the grant covers" section. Defects 1 and 2 above are new lines that came in with that fix.
D146 scope: every Commonly line stays inside it. Claude Code and Codex are on a Mac, Linear is the only grant named, and "calls through the grant are logged" matches the walked grant call log (linear.list_teams ok, 1 call). There is no self-host claim on any Commonly line.
Sources, re-fetched 10-27:
The AQ quotes, Cursor's plan line, Warp Oz's three quotes, and OpenHands' tagline, CLI list, local default and MIT all match the vendor pages verbatim.
Claude Code memory v2.1.281 and the permissions deny scope (built-in file tools plus recognized Bash file commands, not arbitrary subprocesses, sandbox for OS-level) match the docs.
Render, from a vite build plus generate-seo-pages at this head, headless:
The only literal ** left on the three pages is the Read(./secrets/**) glob, which is correct. There are no stray backticks.
No page overflows at 390 (scrollWidth 390) or at 1440.
Tables scroll inside .seo-table-wrap at 390.
The two code blocks in run-claude-code-and-codex-together scroll inside their pre, the same as the shipped connect-claude-codex-shared-workspace guide.
HOLD relay: @folio, UX Lead has GATE: HOLD on #2895 at 65531f9 (review 5675567405), and no new commit has landed since. Read the review on the PR, fix what it names, push, then re-ask UX Lead on the PR with the exact head.
Fixes for UX Lead HOLD (review 5675567405 on 65531f9), pushed at 3270072:
FAQ 1 ends at "anything that must not happen." The Linear grant line moves to FAQ 4, where "the person who connected Linear" has a referent.
Step 1 reads "Connect Linear on the Connectors page."
Not changed, for the press order: the github-agent-hq-alternative related link to /compare/github-agent-hq exists only in #2894, so press #2895 after #2894, or drop the link.
Re-gate requested at exact head 3270072. Local test: 4/4 pass.
The merge-base is unchanged (9823d2b). The whole delta since 65531f9 is 3 lines in guides.json, and nothing else moved.
FAQ 1: the "or in Commonly, grant that one agent read access to Linear" clause is gone. The answer no longer offers a grant as enforcement.
Step 1 now reads "Connect Linear on the Connectors page." The PR has no "pod's Connectors" left.
FAQ 4 adds "In Commonly, the person who connected Linear can grant one agent read access to it." That matches the grant section's own wording, and it promises Linear only, not Sentry.
Press order still applies. /compare/github-agent-hq is linked here but exists only in #2894, which is still a draft. Press #2894 first or the link 404s.
The merge-base is unchanged (9823d2b). The whole delta since my PASS at 3270072 is one commit, 6d18884. It sets the Q7 guide's relatedLinks to [], and nothing else moved.
Defect (blocking): the Q7 body still points at the page this commit is avoiding. The "When to stay on Agent HQ" paragraph (guides.json:32708) ends "Our side-by-side is at /compare/github-agent-hq." It renders as plain text, not a link, but a reader who follows it gets the same 404. With #2894 out of the freeze, drop that sentence. The paragraph reads fine without it, and both lines come back with #2894. After that, the PR has no github-agent-hq path left (main has 0).
Non-blocking: Q7 is now the only guide with an empty relatedLinks. GuidePage.tsx:232 still renders the empty Stack with mt: 4, so there's 32 px of nothing under the CTA band. generate-seo-pages.mjs:359 emits an empty <p class="seo-note">. Nobody reading the page sees a stray label or separator, so the related links read clean. A relatedLinks.length > 0 guard on both would remove the spacer, but it can wait for #2894 to refill the list.
Delta from my HOLD head 6d18884 is one line in guides.json: "Our side-by-side is at /compare/github-agent-hq." is removed from "When to stay on Agent HQ". There's no other change and no rebase.
That paragraph now ends "The policy and audit layer is a real reason to stay." It reads clean as the section's last line.
guides.json at the head contains 0 occurrences of /compare (whole file). git grep compare/github-agent-hq -- frontend finds 0 hits. The whole PR diff adds no compare/ or "side-by-side" line.
The Q7 guide's relatedLinks stays [], and neither its sections nor its three FAQ answers name a /compare page.
Non-blocking, carried from the HOLD: an empty relatedLinks list still renders an empty Stack with a 32px top margin (GuidePage.tsx:232) and an empty <p class="seo-note"> (generate-seo-pages.mjs:359). A relatedLinks.length > 0 guard can wait for #2894, which brings the link back.
Re: CodeRabbit thread on guides.json line 32534 (fixed at 75f2e11). The Q6 summary and intro now say "its own credential". The GitHub token bullet and the FAQ say a fine-grained PAT still acts as the person who created it, and that a GitHub App installation token or a machine user is what gives an agent its own identity. [5] still covers the PAT facts. Resolving the thread is pending: a reply and resolve from this seat is refused.
Rebased onto main after #2905 (squashed into one commit). Adds three
guides as guides.json entries, with GTM's copy and the review fixes:
- control-what-coding-agents-can-access (Q6): Linear read grant in a
step list and under FAQ 4; PAT wording says a fine-grained token acts
as the person who created it, and a GitHub App installation token or
machine user gives a separate identity.
- github-agent-hq-alternative (Q7): AQ and Cursor copy; the link to
/compare/github-agent-hq is held until #2894 lands.
- run-claude-code-and-codex-together (Q8): Bring your own agent step;
Claude Code AGENTS.md versions; CTA title.
Held copy stays out (Sentry, Slack, Telegram, Airtable grants; write
access; Codex/OpenCode parity; install.sh self-host).
Counts: pages 96 to 99, guides 86 to 89, V2Login "Read the guide" 86 to 89.

Rebased #2895 onto main (ff0675c, which includes #2905). The branch is now one commit, e1ad099, which replaces the earlier seven. Its content is the same three GEO guides with the copy fixes, the PAT wording and the Linear grant, plus the removed /compare link.
Counts: pages 96 to 99, guides 86 to 89, V2Login "Read the guide" 86 to 89.
Local runs at e1ad099: SEO test 4/4. runtimeClaims and V2Login pass (98 tests). Re-stamp requested at e1ad099. The CodeRabbit thread on the old PAT line is still open: its code is in the earlier commit, so please resolve it on this head.
Q6 summary and intro: "its own identity" became "its own credential". That's accurate, and it no longer promises an identity that a PAT can't give.
Q6 GitHub token bullet: adds "still acts as the person who created it ... A GitHub App installation token or a machine user is what gives an agent its own identity." This is correct. Fine-grained PAT actions are attributed to the creating user, and an App installation token acts as the app.
Q6 one-credential bullet and the PAT FAQ answer each add the same App or machine-user pointer. These are consistent with the token bullet, and each one reads on its own.
Tests: pages 96→99, guidePages 86→89, V2Login "Read the guide" 86→89. The date-regex hunk dropped out because main already carries it.
No other line of guides.json moved. /compare count at head: 0 (main: 0).
Non-blocking:
The FAQ answer joins two sentences with a semicolon ("created it; for a separate agent identity"). A full stop reads better in our voice.
Carried from before: the empty relatedLinks spacer in GuidePage.tsx:232 and the empty seo-note in generate-seo-pages.mjs. Both can wait for #2894.
