Summary

  • My Workspace agent rows no longer fall back to agentName, the runtime or type name. With no roster name they show the translated generic label (common.agent).
  • Adds two render tests to V2Inspector.test.tsx. The second one fails on the pre-change component, which renders the agentName openclaw, and passes with this change.

Root cause and what this does not fix

The raw id ubd1004e0d7 comes from the backend. resolveAgentDisplayLabel treated a curated displayName equal to agentName on a per-user instance as a runtime leak, and returned the instance id. The fix is commit 30719539 on swift/task-550-551-labels, in draft #2737. It is not in this PR. The row closes after that backend part lands and is walked on staging.

Test plan

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

The My Workspace roster takes its label from the resolved displayName.
The inspector fell back to agentName, the runtime or type name, when that
was empty. It now falls back to the generic "Agent" label instead.

The raw id on the Scout row is the backend leak rule in
resolveAgentDisplayLabel, which returns the instance id for a curated label
that equals the agent name. That fix is commit 3071953 on
swift/task-550-551-labels (PR #2737) and is not in this change.

Adds render tests: a per-user Scout shows its name and never its instance
id or agentName, and an agent with no roster name shows the generic label.

Walkthrough

The V2 Inspector now uses resolved roster display names for agents. When no roster display name is available, it uses a fallback label instead of the runtime agent name.

Explanation

The title names the main change: agent labels no longer fall back to agentName in the inspector. The raw summary confirms V2Inspector.tsx now uses displayName, then profile display name, then a caller fallback, and tests cover the runtime-name case. The title is specific and matches the changeset. The TASK-551 reference is extra context, not a problem.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description states what changed: My Workspace agent rows no longer fall back to agentName and show the translated common.agent label when no roster name exists. It lists two new render tests in V2Inspector.test.tsx and a test plan. It also explains the backend root cause and that the backend fix is not in this PR. This matches the changeset and is detailed enough to pass.

Follow-up Comments

Minor follow-up Apply the generic label to working-agent summaries.

55-55: Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Apply the generic label to working-agent summaries.

When a working agent has no roster or profile display name, labelForAgent returns an empty string. The “needs you” summary uses that value directly, so it can render a blank agent name when attentionCount is zero. Apply the same fallback in workingAgents and add a test for an unnamed working agent.

Suggested fix
   const workingAgents = agents
     .filter((agent) => agentState(agent, attention, tasks).kind === 'working')
-    .map(labelForAgent);
+    .map((agent) => labelForAgent(agent) || t('common.agent'));

Update the workingAgents label mapping to use the generic agent label when
labelForAgent returns an empty string, matching the existing fallback behavior
for unnamed agents. Add a test covering a working agent with no roster or
profile display name.

Gate review of #2988 at bace6cd (TASK-551). Two files: V2Inspector.tsx and V2Inspector.test.tsx.

Defect 1: the change regresses the "nothing working" copy. labelForAgent now returns '' when there is no displayName. The workingAgents path still calls it bare (.map(labelForAgent), V2Inspector.tsx ~line 175), and only the card render site got the || t('common.agent') fallback. An agent with no profile name that is working now gives Nothing. is working. (nothingWorking_one) or "X and " in the _other form. labelForAttentionActor (~line 77) returns the same empty string. Fix: move the common.agent fallback into labelForAgent itself so every caller gets it.

Defect 2: the label order does not match resolveAgentDisplayLabel. The resolver (backend/utils/agentDisplayLabel.ts) runs displayName, then instanceId unless it is default, then username. This PR runs displayName, then profile.displayName, then a generic label. It drops instanceId and username entirely. Test 1 asserts ubd1004e0d7 is not shown, so the author chose that on purpose. If the raw-id hiding is the #2737 carve-out, say so in the code comment. Otherwise the order should match the resolver.

Defect 3: test 1 does not catch the fallback coming back. Its fixture sets displayName: 'Scout', so displayName wins whether or not an agentName fallback exists. Its queryByText('scout') assertion passes either way. Only test 2 (agentName: 'openclaw', no displayName) fails when the fallback returns. Give test 1 a fixture with no displayName and an agentName that differs from the expected label, or add a test for the workingAgents copy.

Checked and fine: no inspector label path uses botMetadata.agentName as a display label. The matching code at matchesAgent (~line 67) compares agentName as an identifier, which is correct and not a label. Test 2 fails if the old fallback returns.

GATE: HOLD

…(TASK-551)

labelForAgent returned '' for an agent with no roster name, and the
working copy joined that bare, so the empty-state line read "Nothing. is
working." Each caller now passes its own generic fallback. Matching
passes '' so the generic text cannot match an attention item. The chain
comment now says why it stops at the roster displayName.

Adds a render test for a working agent with no name, which fails on
bace6cd.

Re-review of #2988 at 8dd6eb3 (TASK-551).

  • Defect 1 (empty working-copy label): fixed. labelForAgent now takes a fallback, and all four callers pass one: workingAgents, the card render, and labelForAttentionActor (which passes actorName). matchesAgent passes '', but its candidate is already checked non-empty, so an empty label never matches. The new test pins Nothing. Agent is working. and asserts no openclaw text.
  • Defect 2 (label order): accepted as deliberate. The chain stops at the roster displayName so that a raw instanceId or username is never shown, per TASK-551. The raw-id backend leak stays in #2737.
  • Defect 3 (test 1 does not guard the fallback): accepted. Test 2 is the discriminating guard, since it fails when agentName is restored as a label.
  • Leftover agentName labels: none found in the inspector. The agentName references left are identifiers and routes.

I did not run the frontend test suite on this head. The verdict rests on reading the diff and the new test.

Resolve attention actors with the same matching rules.

matchesAgent accepts actorName === agent.agentName, but this helper only searches profile.displayName. An unnamed agent with agentName: 'openclaw' can therefore reach the : actorName branch and display the runtime name. Find the agent with matchesAgent and use t('common.agent') for matched agents without a roster name. Preserve actorName only when no agent matches.

This conflicts with the PR objective to never label an agent by agentName.

Proposed fix
-const labelForAttentionActor = (agents: V2Agent[], actorName: string): string => {
-  const legacyAgent = agents.find((agent) => (
-    agent.profile?.displayName?.toLowerCase() === actorName.toLowerCase()
-  ));
-  return legacyAgent ? labelForAgent(legacyAgent, actorName) : actorName;
+const labelForAttentionActor = (agents: V2Agent[], actorName: string, fallback: string): string => {
+  const agent = agents.find((candidate) => matchesAgent(candidate, actorName));
+  return agent ? labelForAgent(agent, fallback) : actorName;
}

Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.

Add a regression test for agent-name attention actors.

The tests cover agent rows and working-agent text, but not labelForAttentionActor when actorName equals agent.agentName and both roster display names are absent. Assert that the attention row shows Agent, not openclaw. The test must fail when the matching fix is reverted, as required by the review checklist.
