fix(byo): give the Codex listener its folder note (TASK-645 item 6) - #3017
TASK-645 item 6: the Codex listener gets its folder note
Tier 1 (UI copy on the Bring your own page; one gate from ux-lead).
The Claude Code listener says what it can reach and how --allow widens it. The Codex listener said nothing, so a Codex user could not tell which folder it works in.
Code check, so the copy is true:
cli/src/lib/workspace-trust.jsfirstRunWorkspace returns a folder only for claude. A Codex seat therefore runs in its scratch folder under the temp directory.
cli/src/commands/agent.js refuses --allow when the seat has no workspace folder, so the Codex command gets no flag.
The note under the Codex listener says exactly that. The command itself is unchanged.
frontend/src/i18n/locales/en.json and zh-CN.json: new agentByo.listen.reachCodex.
frontend/src/v2/components/V2AgentBYO.tsx: the note renders for the Codex listener, where the Claude note used to be the only one.
Test: V2AgentBYOListenSnippet.test.tsx checks the Codex note after the switch.
Checks run: V2AgentBYOListenSnippet.test.tsx and src/i18n, 49/49.
Not done yet: the headless Playwright check at 1440 and 390 with screenshots.
Not in this PR: item 5 (the post-issue name switch, pending Lily's ruling), items 3 and 4, and the moved affordances (TASK-647).

Re-stamp: working directory of the Codex snippet (Lily's ask, 2026-10-30)
The snippet is commonly agent run <name> --adapter codex, with no --env. Traced in the CLI:
cli/src/commands/agent.js (run action): the workspace comes only from an environment file, and run passes --env through only when given. The BYO first run bootstraps its record from the connect page's env vars (bootstrapAgentRecordFromEnv), which never sets workspacePath. workspacePath is written only by cli/src/lib/daemon-supervisor.js, for a daemon seat with an environment.
So the Codex snippet always runs in $TMPDIR/commonly-agents/<name>. It never gets the workspace path, so the sentence is right in both languages. A daemon seat with an environment is the only case that gets a workspace, and that path is not on this page.
--allow is not a flag on agent run. The run command's options are --interval, --adapter, and the three --cascade-* flags. Nothing in cli/src declares --allow. Commander rejects unknown options by default, and cli/src has no allowUnknownOption. So the Codex sentence's "--allow does not apply to Codex" is weaker than the truth: the flag is not accepted for either runner. I did not run the CLI to confirm the rejection; there are no cli dependencies in this checkout.
The Claude copy (agentByo.listen.reachClaude, unchanged here) tells people to add --allow write / --allow web to the same line. That names a flag the command does not have. Fixing it is a copy decision and sits outside this PR's Codex scope, so it is flagged for a ruling rather than changed here.

Walkthrough
When the listener is available and Codex is selected, the BYO instructions show a Codex-specific reachability note. English and Simplified Chinese translations and test assertions are added.
Changes: Codex BYO Listener Note
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Codex note text and display frontend/src/v2/components/V2AgentBYO.tsx, frontend/src/i18n/locales/en.json, frontend/src/i18n/locales/zh-CN.json, frontend/src/v2/__tests__/V2AgentBYOListenSnippet.test.tsx
The component displays the Codex-specific note when the listener is available and Codex is selected. The English and Simplified Chinese text describes Codex’s temporary scratch folder and says --allow does not apply. Tests check the note’s content and its absence when Codex is unavailable.
The Codex listener now displays a localized scratch-folder note. No merge-blocking issue is established.

Describe only the unsupported --allow flag.
The rendered Codex command still contains --adapter codex (Line 1012), so “the last line has no flag” is false. Change this string and the Simplified Chinese string to say that users must not add --allow to the last line.

HOLD on two items. I ran it on a probe merge of this head onto main c496b8f (after #3019). The merge is clean, and the new Codex assertions land in "a Codex listener shows no Claude folder note". The 16 BYO and i18n suites pass, 170/170.
The note contradicts the command above it. "--allow does not apply to Codex, so the last line has no flag" sits under a last line that reads commonly agent run <name> --adapter codex, which has a flag. The zh-CN "所以最后一行不带参数" says the same. CodeRabbit flagged this at 8b3d6cb in its review body, with no thread, and the two-pass wording commit left both strings as they were. Say the last line has no --allow (en and zh-CN).
Nothing pins "renders only for the Codex listener". Two mutants stay 170/170 green:
Dropping listenAdapter === 'codex' &&, so a Claude Code listener shows the Codex note under its own.
Dropping listenerAvailable &&, so Linux and Windows Codex installs show a note about a last line they don't have.
Only deleting the block entirely goes red (1 test). Fix: assert queryByTestId('byo-listen-reach-codex') is null in the Claude reach test, and in the Linux-with-Codex and Codex-on-Windows tests.
The CLI claim holds:
firstRunWorkspace returns null for any adapter but claude (workspace-trust.js).
The bootstrap then throws on --allow with no workspace ("applies only to an agent that works in the folder it starts in", agent.js). On a re-run of a saved Codex record, checkRunAllowRequest refuses it and exits 1.
The bootstrap returns workspacePath: null, so agentCwd falls back to join(tmpdir(), 'commonly-agents', agentName), and codex.js spawns with that ctx.cwd.
Non-blocking:
The PR body's re-stamp section says agent run has no --allow option and that the Claude note names a flag the command lacks. That isn't so. .option('--allow <grants>', …) is declared on run at the merge base, at this head and on main, so the Claude copy needs no ruling.
After the merge, the test titled "a Claude Code listener says what it can reach…; Codex says nothing of folders" no longer matches the behaviour, since Codex now has a folder note.
The Claude Code listener says what it can reach and how --allow widens it. The
Codex listener said nothing, so a Codex user could not tell which folder it
works in. Code check: firstRunWorkspace returns a folder only for claude, so
a Codex seat runs in its scratch folder, and `run --allow` errors for any
adapter that has no workspace folder. The Codex note says exactly that and
leaves the flag off the command.
Test: the Codex listener shows the note after the switch, and the Claude note
is gone.

The Codex folder note said the last line has no flag under a command
that carries --adapter codex. Say no --allow instead (en and zh-CN).
Pin the render gates: the Claude listener, Linux-with-Codex and
Codex-on-Windows tests now assert the Codex note is absent, so dropping
listenAdapter === 'codex' or listenerAvailable goes red.

The ask named c121c4b. The branch was rebased onto current main after that, and the PR's own changed lines are byte-identical between the two heads. I gated this one, probing its merge onto current main.
The wording defect is fixed. en and zh-CN now say the last line has no --allow (最后一行不带 --allow). The Codex command's last line is commonly agent run <name> --adapter codex, so the note agrees with the command it sits under.
The render gates are witnessed now. Baseline is 170/170 across the BYO and i18n suites, and all three mutants redden:
K1, dropping listenAdapter === 'codex': the Claude listener test goes red.
K2, dropping listenerAvailable: both the Codex-on-Windows and the Linux-with-Codex tests go red.
K3, removing the note: the Codex listener test goes red.
The CLI claim still holds on the merged tree:
firstRunWorkspace returns null for any adapter but claude.
agent run refuses --allow without a workspace path.
A folderless run works in tmpdir()/commonly-agents/<name>.
The diff touches four files, all in the BYO flow.
When I filed, the rebase's CI was still running: 13 checks pass, 8 are pending, none fail.

BYO lane and zh-CN two-pass review for #3017 (TASK-645 item 6) at 3cf7c1a, rebased onto e957b1e.
The claim is true (Vera traced it; the PR body cites it). A Codex seat has no first-run workspace, so it runs in $TMPDIR/commonly-agents/<name>, and --allow is refused without a workspace.
The note no longer contradicts the command. "the last line has no --allow" sits correctly under commonly agent run <name> --adapter codex, which was CodeRabbit's review-body point at 8b3d6cb.
It renders only where it applies. The Claude reach, Linux+Codex and Codex-on-Windows tests assert no Codex note, so dropping either guard goes red (Vera's mutants).
The rebase kept #3016 and #3019. The EACCES tests and the runner-before-install tests are both present.
