feat(connectors): tile grid for channels and tools (TASK-677 slice a) - #3066
Layout only, from the D215 artboard: rows render as auto-fill tiles
(150px minimum, aside kept per the 2026-10-31 ruling). Same rows, same
act and same connect flow. The inactive fold spans the grid.

Connector rows now use a responsive tile grid for active and inactive rows. Tiles have a minimum column width of 150px and a minimum height of 128px. Tile content is centered, text can wrap, and actions span the second row. Layout tests check key grid declarations.
Changes: Connector tile layout

Summary
Apply tile grid to connector rows frontend/src/v2/v2.css, frontend/src/v2/__tests__/v2-layout-invariants.test.ts
Connector rows use an auto-filling grid with centered tiles. The inactive fold spans the grid, and inactive rows use the same grid layout. Tile content stacks, text can wrap, and actions span the tile’s second row. Layout invariant tests check the grid, fold placement, and icon-action alignment.

Connector UI lane review (operator, Launch). The diff is 8 lines of CSS in v2.css under .v2-connectors__*, so this review is about layout only. It changes no strings, no locale keys, no connect or grant flow, and no act button handler. The aside stays as ruled on the TASK-677 card, and the grid is auto-fill, minmax(150px, 1fr). The design gate and Vera's gate decide whether the tile matches the artboard frame and whether the act still reads within a 150px tile. This PR stays held in press-holds until both are in.

Preserve the phone action column.
10751-10751: Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Preserve the phone action column.
The single-column tile rule is intentional for the tile layout, but it overrides the phone row rule. At max-width: 760px, icon actions still target column 2 while the selection button spans only the explicit column 1. CSS Grid can create an implicit second track, which narrows the selection area.
Apply matching specificity to the phone row declarations:

Update the phone-width `.v2-connector-row` declarations within the `@media

.v2-connector-row` specificity as the tile rule. Preserve the two-column grid so
icon actions remain in column 2, and apply the matching selector to the phone
min-height override as well.
Make the tile contents shrink with the tile.
10751-10751: Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Make the tile contents shrink with the tile.
.v2-connector-row__selection still uses grid-column: 1 / 3, 140px minmax(150px, 1fr), and a 12px gap. These tracks require 302px inside a tile whose minimum width is 150px. The selection content can therefore overflow into adjacent tiles.
The phone media query makes the inner tracks shrinkable only below 760px. It does not fix wider tile-grid layouts. It also places sibling action controls in column 2, while the higher-specificity tile rule keeps the outer row to one column. Add tile-specific rules for shrinkable selection tracks and explicit action placement.

Add tile-specific overrides for `.v2-connectors__rows .v2-connector-row` so
`.v2-connector-row__selection` uses shrinkable grid tracks and does not overflow
narrow tiles. Explicitly place its sibling action controls within the tile’s
single-column layout rather than relying on column 2.
Add regression coverage for the connector tile grid.

The layout-invariant test does not assert the new grid declarations. Add exact-selector presence assertions for the outer grid, tile height, inactive-fold span, and nested inactive grid. Run browser checks at 1440px and 390px because the suite cannot evaluate computed layout.

Written by Lumen. DESIGN gate (D216) for #3066 (TASK-677 slice a, connector tiles) at 0df8410, against artboard v2's Connectors frames (pod message 120183).
How I rendered it. I built three frontends with vite build: the merge-base c88fe8c, this head, and this head merged onto current main (which carries #3058's dark tokens). Each served /v2/connectors at 1440 and 390, in light and dark. No stack was running, so I stubbed the API with page fixtures:
2 live channels: Slack connected, Telegram pending a code
2 addable: Discord, GroupMe
3 inactive: X unavailable, WhatsApp not offered, Email unavailable
My sheet in the pod puts the artboard frames beside the PR in light and dark at both widths.
Defects
The act and status don't fit a 150px tile at 1440. All seven tiles measure 150px wide with scrollWidth > clientWidth. The tile keeps the old row's inner layout, so its content runs past the tile edge:
GroupMe's "no pod · not connected / GroupMe channel" detail sits outside the tile, in the empty fifth grid column.
Email's "Not offered on this instance. ask your operator" does the same in the inactive grid.
"WhatsApp" and "Telegram" run into the tile edge.
Live tiles grow to 168px while the others stay at 128.
Making the inner row a single column (grid-template-columns: minmax(0,1fr)) isn't enough. The children that carry their own placement and widths still lay out sideways.
390 is 2 columns, not the frame's 3. The rows box is 358px wide, and auto-fill, minmax(150px, 1fr) with a 12px gap fits only 2 columns. Inside the Slack tile the meta column collapses to about 3 characters, so "ops · added 1h · relay off · Rewire crew · linked to Ops…" wraps a syllable per line, and the tile grows to 426px tall. The artboard's mobile tiles are 104px, in 3 columns with a 10px gap. A 150px minimum can't give 3 columns at 390, so the narrow viewport needs its own column rule.
Tile anatomy versus the frame. The artboard tile is a centred 40px logo, the name under it, a status mark top-right, and a fixed height of 128px (104 on mobile). This head puts the whole old row into the tile: status dot, small logo, inline name, meta lines and act button. I accept that slice (a) is layout only and that the content cut belongs to slice (c). Within (a), though, the tile has to contain what it holds. Defects 1 and 2 are where it doesn't.
Holds
The 14px radius equals the artboard's .tile radius (14px), so it matches the spec. Sam's squarish note is about avatars and doesn't apply here.
The inactive fold spans the full grid (800px of 800 at 1440, 358 of 358 at 390), and the inactive rows reuse the tile template.
The aside stays.
In dark (on main with #3058), the tiles, borders and act buttons follow the tokens, with the same geometry and the same overflow.
The row's two-track grid and spanning placements sized the name, detail
and act past the tile at 1440. Inside a tile the content now stacks in
one track and wraps. Layout only.

Design re-gate of #3066 at e8d673a, after my HOLD at 0df8410 (review 5722362448). I rendered /v2/connectors at 1440 and 390, light from this head and dark from this head merged with main (#3058 tokens), with fixture data: Slack live, Telegram pending, Discord, GroupMe, and X, WhatsApp and Email in the inactive fold.
Fixed. No element crosses a tile edge at either width, in either theme. All 7 tiles checked, and page scrollWidth equals the viewport. The 1440 overflow from my first HOLD is gone.
Columns. 2 columns at 390 follow from Lily's ruling 120698 (auto-fill, about 150px minimum), so I withdraw that point from my first HOLD. 5 columns at 1440, the fold spans the grid, the aside stays, and dark follows the tokens.
Still holding. Two defects:
Names break mid-word. At 1440 the tiles read "Telegra / m", "GroupM / e" and "WhatsA / pp". At 390 Slack reads "Slac / k". The cause is overflow-wrap: anywhere on .v2-connectors__rows .v2-connector-row__name (new in this push). The name shares its line with the mark, inside a 124px track at 1440 and a 95px track for Slack at 390. A connector name has to stay whole. It can wrap between words or go below the mark, but it can't split inside a word.
At 390 Slack's text column is 95px against 147px in every other tile. The cause is v2.css:11181, inside @media (max-width: 760px): .v2-root .v2-connector-row:has(.v2-connector-row__action--icon) button.v2-connector-row__selection { padding-right: 52px; }. That rule reserved room for the icon act in column 2. This push moves the act to row 2, column 1, so the 52px is dead space. Only tiles with an icon act get it, which today means the live Slack tile, and the 52px squeezes its meta and detail into a column about 12 characters wide.
Noted for slice (c), not held here. The tiles are 144 to 230px tall at 1440, against the artboard's 128, because the content now stacks. The anatomy (centred 40px mark, name below) is slice (c) work.
HOLD relay: @kai, Lumen has GATE: HOLD on #3066 at e8d673a (review 5722380838), and no new commit has landed since. Read the review on the PR, fix what it names, push, then re-ask Lumen on the PR with the exact head.
…(TASK-677 a)
overflow-wrap:anywhere on the tile name split words that fit ("Telegra/m").
Keep it on the detail only. Drop the 52px icon-act reserve inside a tile:
the act sits in row 2 now, so the reserve only narrowed the text. Layout only.

Design re-gate of #3066 at 3bbe8bf, after my HOLD at e8d673a (review 5722380838). I rendered /v2/connectors at 1440 and 390, in light and dark, from this head merged with main, using the same fixtures as before.
Fixed.
Names stay whole. "Telegram" and "GroupMe" sit on one line at both widths.
Slack's text column is 147px at 390, the same as every other tile. The 52px reserve is gone.
Nothing crosses a tile edge at 390, and page scrollWidth equals the viewport at both widths.
Still holding: at 1440 a one-word name has no room to give. The name now never wraps, but at 1440 the name track is only 124px wide, and the mark and the name share it. The name box overflows its track: Telegram's scrollWidth is 127 against a 124px clientWidth, and GroupMe's is 128. Those two still end inside the 12px padding, 9px from the tile's border. "WhatsApp" doesn't fit:
WhatsApp didn't render at this head merged with main, so I measured it by swapping the text into the GroupMe tile at 1440.
Its text ends at x=774, and the tile's right edge is at x=773, so it reaches the border.
e8d673a showed the WhatsApp tile in the inactive fold, where it split as "WhatsA / pp".
Any connector name about as wide as "WhatsApp" will run into the tile edge at 1440. The fix belongs to the name inside a tile, in either of two ways. It can shrink a step so the longest channel name fits beside the mark in 124px. Or the mark can sit above the name, which is the artboard's anatomy (a centred mark with the name below) and gives the name the full track. Either works for slice (a). Ellipsis isn't a good fit, because the name is the only label on the tile.
Holds as before. 2 columns at 390 per ruling 120698. The fold spans the grid, the aside stays, and dark follows the tokens. Tile height (144 to 214px against the artboard's 128) is slice (c).
At 1440 the mark and name shared a 124px track, so Telegram and GroupMe
ran past the tile edge. Inside a tile the name stacks: mark above label,
the artboard's anatomy. Layout only.

Add presence assertions for the connector tile rules.
v2-layout-invariants.test.ts is the correct place for source-presence assertions because jsdom cannot measure layout. Its current connector assertions do not cover the new grid template, tile height, inactive-fold span, or action placement, so reverting those declarations can leave the test passing.
Add assertions for those declarations. Run the required 1440px and 390px MCP Playwright check separately; it does not replace the presence assertions.

GATE review (Kai), head c6689a9. Verdict: PASS for the tile name layout.
Method: static harness that mirrors the connector-row markup (7 tiles: Slack, Telegram, Discord, GroupMe, WhatsApp, Google Calendar, Email) with the branch's v2.css, measured in Playwright headless.
1440x900: tile 170px, name track 144px. Every name fits its track with no overflow, no ellipsis, and sits inside the tile. The mark is above the name on all seven tiles.
390x844: tile 189px, name track 163px. Same result: no overflow, mark above name on all seven.
WhatsApp-width stress ("WhatsApp Business Messaging" in the first tile, 390 viewport): wraps on the spaces, stays inside the 163px track, no overflow.
Findings:
Dark theme: NOT verified. The branch v2.css has no prefers-color-scheme or theme hook, so there is no dark variant to test against. Light is the only mode on this branch.
Page width: the harness page scrolled 8px wider than the viewport at both widths. Cause: the harness body keeps its default 8px margin. With margin set to 0 the page fits exactly, so it is a harness artifact, not a product bug.
Limits: the harness mirrors the live markup and is not the live app. A single very long unbroken word (no spaces) would still overflow the track; none of the connector names is one.
Not in scope for this review: the CodeRabbit presence-assertion comments on e8d673a.
…SK-677 a)
Review of the tile grid found three things to fix:
- The gear act is 32px or 44px, so stretch did nothing. It now sits centred
under the text in its tile, at (0,4,1) so the 760px icon placement does not
win.
- The name's overflow-wrap is anywhere, so a long unbroken label wraps inside
the tile instead of spilling past it.
- The channel-row comment no longer claims tools are tiled; tools rows are
unchanged in this slice.
The layout-invariant suite now guards the tile grid, the fold span and the
centred icon act, since jsdom cannot see the cascade.

Self-review (subagent, Sonnet, read-only) of c6689a9, then fixes at b255a69.
Findings and what changed:
Gear icon left-aligned in its tile at 1440 (stretch does nothing on a 32px button). Fixed: the icon act is centred at (0,4,1), above the 760px placement.
At 390 the icon act moved to row 2 but the 760px rule placed it top-right. Now centred under the text in its tile; the word acts keep the row the 760px rule gives them. The old "row 2" comment is gone.
The 760px padding-right reserve. The reviewer said the tile rule loses at 390. I count the tile rule's specificity as (0,5,1) against the media rule's (0,4,1), so it wins. Left as is.
Name overflow-wrap normal → anywhere, so a long unbroken label wraps inside the tile. Fixed.
Comment said tools were tiled. They are not in this slice. Fixed.
Presence guards added to v2-layout-invariants.test.ts for the tile grid, the fold span and the centred icon act. Suite: 269/269 pass.
Dark theme: no hard-coded colours in the diff (reviewer confirmed).
Not re-done at b255a69: a real-browser render at 1440 and 390. The earlier render (Lumen's design gate) was at c6689a9. The icon-centring change needs a re-render before the design gate counts it.

Render, light, headless Playwright against the Vite dev server on this head. The API is mocked (catalog with 7 channel entries: Slack, Telegram, Discord, GroupMe, WhatsApp Business Messaging, Google Calendar, Email). Screenshots are attached in the pod (light-1440.png, light-390.png), not on this PR, because gh cannot upload images.
1440x900: 7 tiles in 6 columns... no: 5 in the first row, 2 in the second, auto-fill at 150px minimum. Each mark sits above its name; the WhatsApp name wraps on spaces inside the tile; no horizontal scroll (scrollWidth 1440 = viewport).
390x844: 2 columns, marks above names, no horizontal scroll (scrollWidth 390 = viewport). The fold and the bottom nav are not overlapping the tiles.
Not covered:
Dark. This branch has no dark variant: v2.css has no prefers-color-scheme, data-theme or .dark rule. A dark render would show the light page, so dark is not verified.
The gear (icon) act, which is the change in b255a69. The mocked catalog has no installed connector, so no row shows the icon. It is covered only by the presence guard, not by a render.
The Add buttons do not line up across a row, because tile heights follow their text. Cosmetic; not a blocker.
Checks: v2-layout-invariants suite 269/269 at this head (run earlier on the same change).
Correction to the GATE review at b255a69. Its 1440 line read "7 tiles in 6 columns... no: 5 in the first row, 2 in the second". The right description: at 1440 the grid is auto-fill at 150px minimum, showing 5 tiles in the first row and 2 in the second. The rest of the review stands. Screenshots are in the pod, not on this PR.

Make the tools empty state span the grid.
When V2ConnectorTools has no rows, its direct-child .v2-tools__empty paragraph occupies only the first auto-filled column. Set it to grid-column: 1 / -1.

Review comment at @frontend/src/v2/v2.css at line 10749:
Update the `.v2-connectors__rows` grid styling so a direct-child
`.v2-tools__empty` paragraph spans all columns when `V2ConnectorTools` has no
rows; preserve the existing layout for other children.

The invariant test checks CSS rule presence only. It cannot verify tile geometry, wrapping, or action placement. Run a real-browser check at 1440px and 390px, and report the viewport parameters.

Strengthen the TASK-677 channel-row layout verification beyond CSS rule presence
to validate tile geometry, wrapping, and action placement at 1440px and 390px,
recording the viewport dimensions with the results.

Head reviewed: 80009af (kai/task-677-connector-cards). This is origin/main merged into b255a69 with no conflicts, so the layout is the same as the reviewed b255a69 change.
Render, light, headless Playwright, Vite dev server on this head, API mocked (catalog of 7 channel entries: Slack, Telegram, Discord, GroupMe, WhatsApp Business Messaging, Google Calendar, Email). Screenshots are attached in the pod for this head, since gh cannot upload images to the PR.
1440x900: 7 tiles, auto-fill at 150px minimum (5 in the first row, 2 in the second). Each mark sits above its name. WhatsApp Business Messaging wraps on spaces inside its tile. scrollWidth 1440 equals the viewport.
390x844: 2 columns, marks above names, no overlap with the bottom nav. scrollWidth 390 equals the viewport.
Not verified, stated plainly:
Dark mode. This branch has no dark variant: v2.css has no prefers-color-scheme, data-theme or .dark rule. Only light was rendered.
The gear icon act (the change in b255a69). The mock has no installed row, so no row shows the icon. It is covered by the presence guard in v2-layout-invariants only. The post-deploy walk checks the gear on a real installed row.
Checks at this head: v2-layout-invariants, V2ConnectorsPage and V2ConnectorTools.fold suites pass, 385/385.
