Summary

  • The pod board's columns now scroll inside the pane, and the page stays at scroll 0 (TASK-698, slice 1 of TASK-687).
  • Root cause: .v2-feature__body is the scroller, and its legacy wrapper had auto height, so the board's height: 100% and the column max-height: 100% resolved to nothing and the page grew to about 77,000px.
  • Fix is scoped to .v2-feature--board: the body and wrapper become flex columns, and the wrapper gets width: 100% with the auto margin kept, so the board fills a phone and stays centred on desktop.

Measurement (ux-lead, build of dba819e, 701-row board)

  • 1440: page 0.97×, columns 571px tall, each scrolls on its own.
  • 390: page 0.93×, columns 548px tall, the board fits the viewport width.

Tests

  • frontend/src/v2/__tests__/v2-layout-invariants.test.ts pins the scroll chain.
  • Board and layout suites: 297/297.

Board priority and ownership dots read --v2-prio-* and --v2-status-* tokens
instead of literal theme values. Values are unchanged (mono today), so the
rendered board is identical. The D215 colour choice becomes a token value
swap, not a rework. Layout-invariant pins move with the rules.

Blocked and P0 go red, in progress stays cobalt, P1/P2/pending/done stay
grey with no green. Blocked cards get a 3px left edge; P0 is the only
filled badge. The three faint greys move to AA values (light pending ring
and P2 label #667085, dark P2 #8b94a5). Light and dark values sit in the
base and both dark blocks of v2.css.

The feature body was the scroller and its legacy wrapper had auto height, so
the board's height:100% and the column max-height:100% resolved to nothing.
Measured at 12f608b: 85.5x at 1440, 97.9x at 390. Make the board route's
body and wrapper flex columns so the board fills the pane and the columns
scroll on their own. Scoped to .v2-feature--board.

margin: 0 auto on the legacy wrapper stopped the flex item stretching, so the
board sized to its 1240px max-content width and ran off a 390px screen.
Give the wrapper an explicit width so it fills a phone and stays centred on
desktop.

Walkthrough

The V2 board now uses dedicated priority and status color tokens, adds classes for blocked columns and cards, and bounds board and focus-panel scrolling.

Changes: V2 board presentation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Priority and status styling
frontend/src/v2/v2.css, frontend/src/v2/components/V2PodBoard.tsx, frontend/src/v2/__tests__/v2-layout-invariants.test.ts
The board uses dedicated light- and dark-theme tokens for priorities and ownership statuses. Blocked columns and cards receive state classes. Tests check the token-based styling.
Board column scrolling
frontend/src/v2/v2.css, frontend/src/v2/__tests__/v2-layout-invariants.test.ts
The board route uses a bounded flex layout. Columns scroll vertically, and the focus panel has bounded height and vertical scrolling. Tests check these layout rules.

Explanation

The title names the main change: board columns now scroll inside their pane rather than the page. It also cites the ticket TASK-698. The changeset adds flex layout and scroll constraints on the board feature body, wrapper, and columns, plus a bounded focus panel, so the title matches the primary fix.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description is related to the changeset. It explains the root cause (the auto-height legacy wrapper stopping the board's height and column max-height from resolving), states the scoped fix to .v2-feature--board, gives measurements, and lists the layout invariant test file. It matches the summarized changes to the CSS and the test file.

UX-GATE: PASS @ dba819e — the board columns scroll inside the pane, and the page no longer grows with the task count.

Built at dba819e (REACT_APP_API_URL=http://127.0.0.1:8808 npx vite build, index-BLhVzVIJ.css). Fixture: the real 701-row board for this pod (470 done, 158 pending, 56 blocked, 17 claimed), injected through a route on /api/v1/tasks/**. The control is main's build (index-DzNiI4MO.css) with the same rows.

This branch stacks on #3074 (12f608b, which I gated separately). Its delta over #3074 is the three .v2-feature--board rules in v2.css plus their invariant test.

main dba819e
1440×900: .v2-feature__body scroll/viewport 76,983 / 900 = 85.54× 870 / 900 = 0.97×
390×844 82,644 / 844 = 97.92× 788 / 844 = 0.93×
column client height (1440 / 390) 26,774 / 28,670, so it never scrolls 571 / 548, scrolls on its own
column scrollTop 2000 → body scrollTop 0 0 (the column moved and the page did not)
board left+width at 1440 135+1240 135+1240
board left+width at 390 0+390 0+390
column 1 at 1440 / 390 155+290 / 14+282 155+290 / 14+282
columns strip at 390 (client/scroll) 390/1199 390/1199
document scrollWidth = viewport = viewport

Short viewports: columns are 231 tall at 1440×560 and 264 at 390×560, and the board head stays above them. The task detail modal opens at the same box on both builds: 440,72 560×804 at 1440, and 0,44 390×800 (absolute) at 390.

The c81386f head ran off a 390 phone: the board was 1240 wide in a 390 body. width: 100% on the legacy wrapper fixes it while keeping the 1240 cap and the centring at 1440. .v2-board needs no width rule of its own.

Non-blocking, for me rather than this PR: the METRICS counter in the #3059 measure script picks the longest scroller, which is now the Done column (~85×). I'll point it at .v2-feature__body once #3059 lands.

Add a rendered-board test for blocked-card classes.

The CSS assertion does not detect whether V2PodBoard assigns v2-board__card--blocked only to blocked cards. Add a rendered-board test with one blocked task and one non-blocked task. Assert that only the blocked card has the class.

Comment thread frontend/src/v2/v2.css Resolved
.v2-board__focus was flex 0 0 auto with no bound, so a long focus list could
push the columns below a clipped body with no scroll path. Cap it at
min(35vh, 260px) and let it scroll inside its own box. Pin the presence of
display:flex on the feature body and width:100% on its wrapper, which the
column-scroll test did not cover.

Follow-up Comments

Minor follow-up Make the focus section keyboard-scrollable.

8581-8581: Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Make the focus section keyboard-scrollable.

When a viewer cannot edit and the focus has no available task links, the section has no focusable descendants. Safari users may then be unable to enter the scroll container with the keyboard. This is a narrow accessibility failure, not a major board workflow outage.

Add tabIndex={0}, a visible focus indicator, and a test for the non-editable case.

UX-GATE: PASS @ 5786313

This re-gates the CodeRabbit fix. My earlier PASS was on dba819e.

  • Fixture: a static build of each head, served against the local fixture API. The pod focus has 14 next tasks (GET /api/pods/:id/focus is stubbed) and the board has 701 tasks.

  • Positive control at dba819e: the focus box grows to its full content (530 px at 1440, 1568 px at 390, overflow visible). At 1440×560, 390×560 and 390×844 the columns shrink to 24 px and start below the fold (top 670 / 1684), so the board can't be reached.

  • At 5786313 the focus box is capped at min(35vh, 260px) with overflow-y: auto. Its scroll ranges are 194/528 at 1440×560, 194/1566 at 390×560, 258/528 at 1440×900 and 258/1566 at 390×844. The last focus item can be scrolled into view inside the box.

  • Visible column height at 5786313 (dba819e in brackets):

    Viewport Visible column
    1440×560 143 px (0)
    390×560 172 px (0)
    1440×900 419 px (149)
    390×844 392 px (0)

Columns start at 336 / 312 / 400 / 376. Each column scrolls on its own, and the document doesn't scroll at any of the four sizes.

  • v2-layout-invariants.test.ts: 276/276. The new asserts (feature body display: flex, wrapper width: 100%) are included.

  • A short focus list stays under the cap, so its layout is unchanged.

Non-blocking: at 390×560 the capped box shows only the goal and scope, and the task list starts below its fold. There's no cue that the box scrolls beyond the cut-off line. Worth a fade or a count if phone users miss it; not this PR.
