Artifacts, walked as a new user. With nothing shared, the page still showed a "0" count, the kind filter (All / Images / Docs / Pages), the pod filter, a ⌘K search box, and then one dashed line. There was a lot to filter and nothing to filter, and no way to act.

The frame comes first: d215 gets a new s-artifacts section, with day zero and busy states at 1440 and 390 and a notes table. The build follows it.

What changes

  • Day zero means nothing shared and no kind, pod or search filter set (and not loading, no error). The page then shows one bordered card: "Nothing shared yet", what lands here ("Files you and your agents share in a pod land here: docs, images and pages."), and an ink key, "Open My Workspace". There are no controls and no count. At ≤760 the key is full width and 44px tall.
  • The key opens the account's oldest pod, which is the one signup creates. /api/pods lists by last update, so the choice reads createdAt. No per-pod requests are made. With no pods, the card has no key.
  • A filtered empty result (for example ?kind=image with nothing) keeps the controls and the existing "Nothing matches. Clear a filter or the search." line.
  • A busy page is unchanged.
  • The unused unfiltered artifacts.empty string is removed. zh-CN: 还没有分享内容 / 你和你的智能体在 Pod 里分享的文件会出现在这里,包括文档、图片和页面。 / 打开 {{pod}} (reused from Activity).
  • Follow-up from feat(activity): one action row on a phone, Get started holds its place #3316: the s-activity table cell, a frame caption, and the V2ActivityPage and v2.css comments now say the Get started placeholder holds its height for the two-step day-zero card, and that one or three steps shift it by a row. These are comment and artboard text changes only.

Proof

  • Frontend jest 2623/2623 (full suite on the build commit). After the follow-up commit, the Artifacts and layout-invariant suites are 358/358 and tsc --noEmit is clean.

  • Mutation checks:

    • controls rendered at day zero;
    • the count shown at day zero;
    • !kind dropped from the day-zero condition;
    • the link removed;
    • the filtered-empty line removed;
    • newest pod picked instead of oldest;
    • the 44px rule moved out of the ≤760 block, then deleted;
    • the card made dashed;
    • the key made bordered instead of ink.

    Each fails its test.

  • Real browser: headless Chromium against a local build. API responses come from fixtures, and every non-GET request is aborted.

    • Day zero at 1440: no controls, no count, a 760px solid card, the ink key 149×32.
    • Day zero at 390: the key is 336×44.
    • ?kind=image empty, at both widths: the controls stay and "Nothing matches" shows.
    • No horizontal overflow anywhere.

…Get started's height claim

Adds s-artifacts after s-activity: day zero (total 0, no kind/pod/search
filter, not loading, no error) drops the kind and pod segments, the search
box and the head's count, and shows one bordered card with an ink key that
opens the pod Activity's Get started step opens. Busy is prod's table,
unchanged. Filtered-empty keeps the controls and the dashed line.

Also qualifies three s-activity claims from #3316 that said the Get started
placeholder is the same height without condition: it matches the two-step
day-zero card; one or three steps shift by one row, and an empty result
removes the card. The V2ActivityPage change is comment-only.

…over nothing

A new account saw the kind and pod segments, a search box with ⌘K and a
"0" count above one dashed line. When the total is 0 and no kind, pod or
search filter is set (and the page is not loading and has no error), the
page now drops the controls and the count and shows one bordered card:
"Nothing shared yet", one line on what lands here, and an ink key that
opens the pod Activity's Get started step opens: the first pod holding a
seat, else the account's oldest pod, with Activity's "Open {{pod}}" label.
An account with no pods gets the card without the key. A filtered empty
result keeps the controls and the dashed "Nothing matches" line. Busy is
unchanged. Drawn in d215 s-artifacts.

The unfiltered artifacts.empty string is replaced by artifacts.dayZero.*
(en, zh-CN). The ≤760 44px full-width key is pinned by a layout invariant
that resolves its enclosing media block.

Walkthrough

The Artifacts page now distinguishes unfiltered empty results from filtered empty results. An unfiltered empty result can show a card with an optional link to the earliest dated pod. The changes also add responsive styles, translations, tests, design examples, and updated Activity layout notes.

Changes: Artifacts surface

Layer / File(s) Summary
Artifacts day-zero behavior
frontend/src/v2/components/V2ArtifactsPage.tsx, frontend/src/v2/v2.css, frontend/src/i18n/locales/en.json, frontend/src/i18n/locales/zh-CN.json, frontend/src/v2/__tests__/V2ArtifactsPage.test.tsx, frontend/src/v2/__tests__/v2-layout-invariants.test.ts
The page shows a day-zero card when an unfiltered request completes without an error and returns no artifacts. It links to the earliest dated pod when available. Filtered empty results retain controls and show a different message. Translations, styles, and tests cover these states.
Artifacts design and Activity layout notes
docs/design/artboards/d215/index.html, frontend/src/v2/components/V2ActivityPage.tsx, frontend/src/v2/v2.css
The design page adds desktop and mobile Artifacts examples and navigation. It removes the mobile scrolled Activity example and comparison strips. Activity descriptions clarify how the checking placeholder relates to loaded step counts.

Holding at 9412adf for one defect.

Day zero is wrong for one render after a filter is cleared (V2ArtifactsPage.tsx ~155). dayZero reads loading, items and total, and those still hold the previous filtered result when kind, podId or urlQ change, because setLoading(true) only runs in the effect after that render. Example: an account with files opens ?kind=page (no matches) and clicks "All". The first render has kind='', loading=false, items=[] and total=0, so the day-zero card mounts and the controls unmount, then come back with the spinner. A MutationObserver probe recorded rm controls → add zero → rm zero → add controls, and focus moved from the "All" button to . Clearing the search box can do the same to the input someone is typing in. Fix: tie day zero to the query the loaded result belongs to, and add a test that clears a filter on a busy account and asserts the controls are never removed.

Should fix with it: the s-artifacts notes in d215 and the v2.css comment over .v2-artifacts__zero still say the key opens Activity's Get started pod (first seated pod). The build opens the oldest pod by createdAt.

Verified, no defects otherwise:

  • Oldest pod: createDefaultWorkspacePod creates My Workspace at signup, and getAllPods returns whole documents with createdAt (timestamps: true), so oldest-by-createdAt works. Limit: an invite signup into an older pod gets that pod instead, but the label shows its real name.
  • Route: /v2/pods/:podId is the pod route.
  • CSS: all tokens exist, and the 44px rule sits inside the ≤760 block with an enclosingMedia guard.
  • Tests: they fail on a revert.
  • zh: follows the glossary, and 分享 is consistent with the 分享者 column.
  • Artboard: sections balance.

Re-reviewed at 3b6eed7. Both defects from the hold at 9412adf are fixed.

Day zero after clearing a filter. V2ArtifactsPage.tsx now records loadedQuery, the key of the query the shown result answers, on both resolve and error. dayZero also requires loadedQuery === UNFILTERED. Switching a filter away and back before the answer lands is also safe, because loading stays true from the abandoned request.

A MutationObserver probe on a copy of this head, under node 22:

  • Clearing the pod filter on a busy account (?podId=p2 has no matches, then "All pods"): v2-artifacts__zero and v2-artifacts__controls are never added or removed. Focus stays on "All pods" and the table renders.
  • Clearing the search box on a busy account (?q=zzz, clear it, wait past the 250ms debounce): same result, and focus stays in the search box.
  • Mutation: removing the loadedQuery term makes the new test fail, and the probe shows the original card flash and focus loss again.
  • Empty account, first load: day zero shows, with "Open My Workspace" → /v2/pods/w1.
  • Empty account, after clearing ?kind=image: it lands on day zero once the unfiltered answer arrives.
  • Error: the alert renders, the controls stay, and neither the card nor "Nothing matches" shows.

Artboard and CSS comment. The d215 s-artifacts note and the v2.css comment over .v2-artifacts__zero now say the key opens the account's oldest pod, the one signup creates. That matches the code.

Unchanged from the first review:

  • /api/pods returns createdAt, so oldest-by-createdAt is sound.
  • An invite signup into an older pod gets that pod. Its label is the real name, so this is not a defect.
  • The route /v2/pods/:podId is correct.
  • The CSS uses tokens, and the 44px rule sits inside the ≤760 block with an enclosingMedia guard.
  • zh follows the glossary.
  • The artboard matches en.json.
  • The Activity edits are comment and text only.

V2ArtifactsPage.test.tsx, v2-layout-invariants.test.ts and the probe pass 364/364. The author's full frontend run is 2624/2624, with tsc clean.

Allow the pod link label to wrap.

When a pod has a long name, white-space: nowrap makes the “Open {{pod}}” label extend beyond the day-zero card on a narrow screen. Pod names have no schema length limit. Allow wrapping and use overflow-wrap: anywhere so the action remains readable. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Nitpick Test the other filtered-empty branches.

Test the other filtered-empty branches.

The current test covers kind=image, but dayZero also depends on urlQ and podId. Add empty-result cases for ?q=unmatched and ?podId=w1. Each case must assert that the controls and filtered-empty message remain and that the day-zero card does not appear. These cases will fail if the corresponding guard is removed.

On CodeRabbit's review at 9412adf:

  • Long pod names on the day-zero key: fixed. The key now wraps (overflow-wrap: anywhere, centred text) instead of nowrap, and the layout invariant asserts this.
  • Artboard note about the key's destination: already fixed at 3b6eed7. The note says the key opens the account's oldest pod, the one signup creates.
  • Search and pod filtered-empty tests: added (?q=unmatched and ?podId=w1). Each asserts that the controls and "Nothing matches" stay and day zero doesn't show. Since 3b6eed7, day zero also requires the loaded result to be the unfiltered one, so the !urlQ, !kind and !podId terms are a second guard. The new cases fail when a term is removed together with that check.

Re-stamped at 94e5464. Since 3b6eed7 there is one commit and no component code changed:

  • v2.css: on .v2-root a.v2-artifacts__open, white-space: nowrap becomes text-align: center; overflow-wrap: anywhere;.
  • Layout invariant: now asserts the wrap.
  • V2ArtifactsPage.test.tsx: a test.each covers ?q=unmatched and ?podId=w1 empty results (controls stay, "Nothing matches" shows, no day zero).

Layout. At desktop the key is still inline-flex and sizes to its label. The ≤760 rule (flex, 100% wide, min-height 44px) is unchanged and still comes last. Rendered in headless Chromium:

  • 1440: "Open My Workspace" is 154×32, and long names stay on one line inside the 760px card.
  • 390: the key is 336×44 for short labels and for long names with spaces, and 336×56 for a long name with no spaces. Its right edge stays inside the card and nothing scrolls horizontally.

Cosmetic, not a defect: the key has no vertical padding, so a label that wrapped at desktop would sit flush against its edges. Names don't wrap at that width in practice.

V2ArtifactsPage.test.tsx, v2-layout-invariants.test.ts and the earlier probe (filter clearing, a truly empty account, the error path) pass 366/366.

Minor follow-up Test the filter guards during a query transition.

201-208: Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Test the filter guards during a query transition.

These tests still pass if !urlQ or !podId is removed from dayZero: the completed filtered request leaves loadedQuery different from UNFILTERED. Add transition tests that change the URL while the displayed result still belongs to the unfiltered query, and check the intermediate render.

As per path instructions, “A test that would still pass with the fix reverted is not a test (rule 1).”

On CodeRabbit's review at 94e5464:

  • Typing before the URL debounce: fixed. Day zero also requires the local search text to be empty. A new test holds the first /api/artifacts answer, types into the search box, then resolves an empty answer inside the debounce. It checks that the same search input stays mounted and focused and that day zero doesn't show. Without the guard, the test fails.
  • Duplicate heading id in the artboard: fixed. The 390 frame uses artifacts-zero-title-390.
  • Transition tests for !urlQ and !podId: not adding these. Day zero renders no controls, so the only way into that transition is a URL change while the unfiltered empty result is on screen. Both terms cover that render on their own terms, and the loadedQuery check covers every other transition, with a test for each filter.

Re-stamped at 2ba6c57. Since 94e5464 there is one commit:

  • V2ArtifactsPage.tsx: dayZero gains !q, with a comment.
  • Test: a new one, "typing a search before the first empty answer lands keeps the search box and focus". It is the only test that fails when !q is removed.
  • Artboard: the 390 frame's heading id and aria-labelledby are now artifacts-zero-title-390, so each id appears once.

Can !q keep an empty account off day zero? Not in normal use. q starts from the URL's ?q, and day zero shows no search box to type in. Clearing the box empties q again.

A rare edge case that predates this PR. Clicking Artifacts in the nav rail from /v2/artifacts?q=zzz keeps the page mounted, so q keeps its text while the URL drops the search.

  • An account with files then sees unfiltered results under a box that still reads "zzz", which was already true before this PR.
  • An empty account now sees the controls with neither the card nor "Nothing matches".

Syncing q from the URL when it changes would fix both, and is a follow-up, not a reason to hold.

V2ArtifactsPage.test.tsx, v2-layout-invariants.test.ts and the earlier probe pass 367/367.

Keep the search mounted while it has focus.

If the empty response arrives while a user has typed one character, deleting that character before the debounce makes dayZero true. The search input unmounts and loses focus, so the user cannot continue typing. Keep the controls mounted until the focused search loses focus, and test this sequence.

On the review at 2ba6c57 (keep search mounted while focused): not changing this. That sequence only happens on an account with nothing shared: the first answer is empty, the person types one character, then deletes it. With an empty box there is nothing to search, and day zero is the right state. The card that replaces the box explains why the page is empty and offers the next step. Holding the controls open for a search that can only return nothing would put back the screen this PR removes.
