Summary

  • Add pr_merge_gate helpers to post one-time GitHub PR comments when the review sweep will not auto-merge (structured Why + What you need to do checklist).
  • Wire comments for missing approval label, GitHub review blocks, item dispatch gates, review-thread holds, and repair-cap / existing needs-human PRs.
  • Restructure repair-cap and review-stall supervisor messages for renderable GFM.

Test plan

  • cargo test -p agentflare supervisor::pr_merge_gate::tests
  • On a CI-green PR, confirm a single supervisor comment when merge is blocked (not label-only)

Made with Cursor

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Pull requests that cannot proceed receive comments explaining blockers such as missing approval, review requests, dispatch gates, unresolved review threads, or blocked CI repairs.
    • Comments include relevant details and suggested next steps, including when repair attempts reach their limit.
    • Repeat comments are avoided when the blocker information has not changed.
  • Tests
    • Updated review-stall comment expectations and added coverage for comment formatting.

When auto-merge is blocked, post GitHub markdown (why + checklist) instead
of relying on labels or Telegram alone; improve repair-cap and stall wording.

Walkthrough

Supervisor merge gates and CI self-repair paths now post PR comments for blocking conditions. Review-stall and repair-cap paths use shared comment formatting. Successful notifications are tracked by fingerprint.

Changes: PR merge-block notifications

Layer / File(s) Summary
Comment formatting and notification tracking
src/supervisor/pr_merge_gate.rs, src/supervisor.rs
Added Markdown comment formatters, gate-specific comment builders, fingerprint checks, and metadata updates after successful posting. Added a formatter test and imported the private module into the supervisor.
Merge-gate comment calls
src/supervisor/merge.rs
Merge handling posts comments for missing approval labels, GitHub review blocks, dispatch gates, and review-thread holds.
CI self-repair blocked notices
src/supervisor.rs
Failing-check repairs post notices for gate, worktree, claim, agent, cooldown, CPU-pressure, and enqueue outcomes. Merge-conflict repairs do not post these notices.
Review-stall and repair-cap comments
src/supervisor/review_bots.rs, src/supervisor_coderabbit_tests.rs
Review-stall and repair-cap comments use shared formatters. One repair-cap path posts through the fingerprint-deduplicated helper. The test expectation reflects the updated review-stall wording.

Retry failed PR-comment posts on later blocked sweeps.

A failed post_pr_merge_block_once call stores no fingerprint. The current first_time_gated(...) guards still consume their keys, so later blocked sweeps do not retry the missing-approval, GitHub-review, or dispatch-gate comment.

Keep the notifications inside first_time_gated(...), but call each idempotent PR-comment helper on every blocked sweep. The PR number and labels are already available in handle_ci_green. A retry performs a metadata read and, when no fingerprint exists, attempts the GitHub comment.

Include changes_requested in the review-block fingerprint.

The Why text depends on changes_requested, but the fingerprint is the fixed "github-review-block". After a daemon restart, the sweep can call this function again while the stored fingerprint still matches an earlier post. post_pr_merge_block_once then skips the new body. The PR keeps the earlier guidance. That guidance can say an approving review is missing after a reviewer has requested changes.

Set the repair-cap gate after the PR comment posts.

In coderabbit_repair_or_gate, the item gate is added before the PR comment is posted. The next sweep then returns early at the gate check and never reaches the comment branch. If the comment post fails once, the cap instructions are not posted again while the gate remains. A human must remove the gate before the sweep reviews the PR again.

The merge block stays in place, so the PR is not merged unsafely. The gap is that the What you need to do instructions can be lost. Reordering the calls so the comment posts first means a failed post leaves the gate unset. The next sweep then retries the cap branch.

Keep the early return. The sweep skips review fetching while the gate is set to avoid per-tick GitHub calls. Apply the reorder only to the pr_gated path, and keep the else if announced-stage branch and the branch that runs when the PR lacks the stage label behaviorally unchanged.

Retain notification history for each blocker.

The item stores only the last fingerprint. If a PR moves from cpu-pressure to agent-cooldown and back, each change replaces the stored value. The sweep then posts the earlier comment again. Store notified fingerprints per PR instead of comparing only the latest value.

Include failing checks in the CI notice fingerprint.

If failing checks change while the same dispatch gate remains active, reason_key stays the same. The helper suppresses the new comment, so the PR continues to show the old check names. Add a stable, order-independent representation of failing_checks to this fingerprint.

Review comment at @src/supervisor/pr_merge_gate.rs at line 275:
Update the fingerprint construction near `reason_key` to include a stable,
order-independent representation of `failing_checks`, so changes to the failing
checks produce a distinct CI notice fingerprint while reordering the same checks
does not.
