🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
Detect an escaped quote before selecting the repair.
If the argument value ends with an escaped quote before </function></tool_call>, stripped.endsWith('"') is true even though the JSON string remains open. For example, a value ending in \" takes this branch. Appending only } leaves invalid JSON, so the call falls through to {} and can repeat the retry loop this repair targets. Check whether the terminal quote is escaped before deciding whether to append } or "}.

🔒 Security & Privacy | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
Do not log raw tool arguments.
When JSON parsing fails, this warning writes the first 200 and last 100 characters of rawArgs to the log. Tool arguments can contain tokens or other credentials, including near either end. Keep the length and a non-sensitive error classification, but remove the argument slices. As per path instructions, “tokens and OAuth material must never be logged or serialized into responses.” Based on learnings, raw argument strings can embed secrets that must not enter a persistent log.

Being carried into #7218 with your authorship preserved; this PR will be closed when the bundle lands. This source targets main; the bundle carries it onto dev. Credited follow-ups remove raw argument logging and cover bounded repairs, including escaped terminal quotes. |
|
Thanks for carrying this into #7218 — glad the bounded-repair approach fit the existing parser philosophy. Your refinements are strictly better: Happy to help verify anything on the Xiaomi MiMo routing side if useful — the corruption reproduces readily with mimo-v2.5/v2.6 tool-heavy sessions. |

Reviewed the complete one-file diff at cdf1690. Please address the two concrete parser/logging regressions below and add focused regression coverage; the current hygiene failure correctly reports that no test changed. This source targets main, whereas integration belongs on dev. The owner is carrying the intent with separate repairs and tests in #7218; neither an open carry nor this review means the original implementation is safe to land. This was ordinary static correctness review; no local workload, live request or security scan was run.

[P1] Keep malformed tool arguments out of service logs
Every malformed function-call replay that reaches this fallback now prints the first 200 and last 100 characters of raw tool arguments. Tool arguments can contain file content, shell commands and credentials; JSON.stringify escapes syntax but does not redact any of that content. Previously this warning was content-free. Remove the head/tail payload and retain only bounded non-content diagnostics. Add a regression with a synthetic secret/content marker that asserts it never reaches console output.

[P2] Distinguish string contents from JSON delimiters during repair
An unterminated string whose final content character is } (for example the truncated prefix {"command":"printf }) enters this branch, is treated as a closed object, then fails JSON.parse and falls back to {}. A string ending in an escaped quote has the same problem in the next branch: endsWith(quote) does not mean that the string closed. Both are instances of the envelope corruption this helper claims to repair and lose otherwise recoverable arguments. Use a bounded string/escape-aware envelope check and add cases for braces inside strings, escaped terminal quotes, valid JSON containing literal tag text, and irreparable inputs.

Problem
Xiaomi MiMo models (mimo-v2.5/v2.6 generations) intermittently serialize function-call arguments with their proprietary
</function></tool_call>closing tags inside the JSON string value, replacing the JSON string's closing quote and the object's closing brace.Raw arguments from a live capture look like:
Note the tail: the tags occupy the position where
"}\nshould be.JSON.parsefails,functionCallArgumentsFromTexttolerates the text as{}, and the routed model replays the same corrupted call forever. In the reporting user's service log this appeared 7,221 times as an unbounded "Thinking" retry loop on a single call ID.Fix
Add
repairMimoToolCallEnvelope()tosrc/responses/parser.ts, called before the existingrepairJsonObjectEnvelopefallback infunctionCallArgumentsFromText:</function></tool_call>suffix is present AND the text starts with{— both conditions required.}→ already closed, use as-is"→ append}only"}{}path.Valid JSON, freeform text, and tag-containing non-JSON text are untouched — the repair cannot rewrite a payload that was not this exact corruption.
Evidence
Unit checks against the live 6,113-byte corrupted payload and regression cases:
{"input": "…*** End Patch\n</function></tool_call>inputkey recovered{"input": "value</function></tool_call>"}{"input": "value"}</function></tool_call>plain text no tags{}(unchanged fallback){"cmd": "dir"}End-to-end on the patched proxy:
XioamiMimo/mimo-v2.6-pro+apply_patchtool call: file created, read-back verified.defaulting to {}torepaired MiMo tool-call envelope (tags inside string)on every replay of the previously stuck call ID.tokenbom/glm-5.3shell tool call unaffected.Notes
This is the responses-parser sibling of the MiMo tool-call grammar issue referenced in
command-code.ts(restoreMiMoTools, patlux/pi-commandcode-provider#110): the model family sometimes emits its XML tool grammar where structured JSON is expected. The existing code already tolerates one lost-brace corruption; this adds the second observed envelope corruption with the same bounded-repair philosophy.Summary by CodeRabbit
Review readiness checklist
This PR stays in draft until every box below is ticked. Tick all four boxes once the requirements are met:
Required local validation passed; commands, results, and any full-suite exception are documented.
I pushed my PR to a recent dev commit (at most 10 behind; a maintainer may still ask for the exact tip before merge).
I resolved all correct Codex and CodeRabbit findings.
My PR is ready for review.
