Adds openshift-qe-etcd-density-crashloop-flood next to the annotation-churn and db-quota-pressure steps added in #84235, so that all four kube-burner-ocp etcd-density variants the OpenShift Performance and Scale team used for the standard-vs-sharded etcd characterisation on HCP exist as reusable steps.
crashloop-flood deploys pods that actually crash rather than creating synthetic Event objects, so events arrive from kubelet, scheduler and controller sources simultaneously. Each pod emits roughly 6 events per crash cycle (Scheduled, Pulling, Pulled, Created, Started, BackOff) and keeps doing so under restartPolicy: Always.
That matters because it exercises the count-increment (PATCH) path for event keys that already exist. That is a different etcd mvcc profile from creates, and it is the dominant pattern in real-world event storms.
Shape
Identical to its two siblings, deliberately: same image, same e2e-benchmarking wrapper, same EXTRA_FLAGS assembly, same run.sh fingerprint patch, same credential handling with set -x left off. Only the variant-specific flags differ. Keeping the four byte-consistent means they can be maintained as a family.
Flags are the ones etcd-density.go defines for this subcommand, verified present at the wrapper's pinned v1.12.6:

CRASHLOOP_FLOOD_ITERATIONS

CRASHLOOP_REPLICAS

Defaults are kube-burner-ocp's own rather than the characterisation values, so a job config picks its own sizing. The characterisation values are recorded in the step documentation.
Consumers
None in this PR — the step is intentionally landed on its own. Its first consumer is the HyperShift hypershift-etcd-perf chain in #86142, which adds one etcd-density variant per pull request. A standalone-OpenShift periodic can be added later by perfscale, mirroring perfscale-etcd-annotation-churn-6nodes in openshift/etcd/openshift-etcd-release-5.0.yaml.
Adds a reusable OpenShift CI step for the kube-burner-ocp etcd-density crashloop-flood workload. The step deploys crashlooping pods to generate events from multiple Kubernetes components and exercise event count-increment updates.
The step supports configurable iterations, replicas, soak duration, metrics, indexing, and metadata. Its defaults are 20 iterations, 100 replicas, and a 30-minute soak. CI job configuration can override these values.
The step is documented for standard-versus-sharded etcd characterization. No test results or downstream consumers are established by the supplied evidence.

annotation-churn and db-quota-pressure steps, so all of the etcd-density

Adds a CI step registry entry for the etcd-density crashloop-flood workload. The step configures workload parameters and credentials, selects and clones a kube-burner version, runs the workload, and preserves metrics and the run exit status.

Summary
Define the CI step ci-operator/step-registry/openshift-qe/etcd-density-crashloop-flood/openshift-qe-etcd-density-crashloop-flood-ref.yaml, ci-operator/step-registry/openshift-qe/etcd-density-crashloop-flood/openshift-qe-etcd-density-crashloop-flood-ref.metadata.json, ci-operator/step-registry/openshift-qe/etcd-density-crashloop-flood/OWNERS
The step definition sets crashloop workload parameters, kube-burner options, secrets, resource requests, and a 13-hour timeout. It also documents the workload and its stated standard test settings.
Run the crashloop-flood workload ci-operator/step-registry/openshift-qe/etcd-density-crashloop-flood/openshift-qe-etcd-density-crashloop-flood-commands.sh
The script reads Elasticsearch credentials, selects and clones a kube-burner version, configures and runs the workload, and copies metrics when present. It exits with the workload run’s status.

When this step runs on a HyperShift path, the upstream script can turn on shell tracing and print the Elasticsearch URL with its embedded credentials into CI logs. Prevent the tracing or avoid placing credentials in the URL before relying on this step. No consumers exist yet, so current exposure is limited.

Explanation
The pull request adds only step-registry shell, YAML, JSON, and OWNERS files. The authoritative diff contains no Ginkgo test files or It() blocks, so the listed test-quality requirements are not applicable.
Full details: Microshift Test Compatibility
Explanation
PASS: The pull request adds a CI step shell script, metadata, YAML, and an OWNERS symlink. It adds no Ginkgo e2e tests or test declarations such as It(), Describe(), Context(), or When(), so the MicroShift API compatibility check does not apply.
Full details: Single Node Openshift (Sno) Test Compatibility
Explanation
The pull request adds a CI step registry entry, shell command script, metadata, and YAML reference. It adds no Ginkgo e2e tests or test constructs such as It(), Describe(), Context(), or When(), so the SNO compatibility check is not applicable.
Full details: Topology-Aware Scheduling Compatibility
Explanation
The PR adds a step-registry wrapper and configuration, not a deployment manifest, operator, or controller. The changed files contain no node selectors, affinity, topology spread constraints, tolerations, PDBs, rolling-update settings, or node-count-derived replica logic. The workload flags only set crashloop iterations, replicas, and duration, so the PR introduces no listed topology-incompatible scheduling constraint.
Full details: Ote Binary Stdout Contract
Explanation
PASS: The pull request adds only a shell command script, YAML metadata, and OWNERS. It does not add or modify an OTE binary or process-level Go test setup. The shell commands such as oc projects are outside this check's scope.
Full details: No-Weak-Crypto
Explanation
The pull request adds a shell wrapper and step metadata only. The changed code uses an HTTPS Elasticsearch URL and reads credentials from mounted files. It introduces no MD5, SHA1, DES, 3DES, RC4, Blowfish, or ECB usage, no custom cryptographic implementation, and no secret or token comparison.
Full details: Container-Privileges
Explanation
The added step manifest and command script do not declare privileged: true, hostPID, hostNetwork, hostIPC, SYS_ADMIN, or allowPrivilegeEscalation: true. They also do not request root execution. No container-privilege violation is introduced by this pull request.
Full details: No-Sensitive-Data-In-Logs
Explanation
No sensitive data is logged by the added script. It deliberately omits set -x, reads credentials with command substitution, redirects USER_METADATA to a file, and captures tag lookup output. The authenticated ES_SERVER value is exported for run.sh but is not echoed or printed. The script follows the existing etcd-density sibling steps without adding logging of passwords, tokens, metadata, or internal hosts.
Full details: Ipv6 And Disconnected Network Test Compatibility
Explanation
The new runnable workload step requires external connectivity. Its script always queries and clones https://github.com/cloud-bulldozer/e2e-benchmarking (lines 21–24), and it uses a public AWS Elasticsearch endpoint by default (lines 13 and 45). The generated ES_SERVER URL also interpolates ES_HOST without IPv6 brackets, so an IPv6 literal from the secret would produce an invalid URL.
Resolution
IPv6 and disconnected network compatibility notice: This test may contain IPv4 assumptions or external connectivity requirements that will fail in IPv6-only disconnected environments. Please verify your test works on IPv6 by running an additional CI job: /payload-job periodic-ci-openshift-release-master-nightly-4.22-e2e-metal-ipi-ovn-ipv6. Replace the GitHub clone and public Elasticsearch endpoint with approved internal mirrors/services, or exclude the workload from disconnected jobs. When ES_HOST can be an IPv6 literal, construct the URL with IPv6-safe host formatting. If external access is required, mark the test as skipped for disconnected environments.

Prevent run.sh from tracing ES_SERVER.
The selected tag, v2.10.5, enables set -x in its HyperShift path. Later commands interpolate ES_SERVER, so the authenticated URL can appear in CI logs. Disable tracing before those commands, or fix the upstream script before invoking it.
