| Layer / File(s) | Summary |
|---|---|
Lifecycle ownership and shutdown contracts AdvancedCorePlugin.java, AdvancedCoreLifecycle.java, RuntimePlatform.java, ServerDataOwnership.java |
Startup and shutdown now use ServerData ownership admission, lifecycle hooks, completion stages, and JVM property tokens. |
Bounded runtime shutdown AdvancedCoreRuntime.java, BukkitRuntimePlatform.java |
Shutdown uses one monotonic 15-second budget. Storage and native owners remain retained while admitted work or executor termination is pending. |
Storage worker ownership UserDataManager.java, BukkitUserCacheOwner.java, SpigotShutdownStorageWorkerTest.java |
The exact daemon storage worker is excluded from platform-thread rejection. Other platform-owned thread checks remain active. |
Lifecycle and ownership validation AdvancedCore/src/test/java/com/bencodez/advancedcore/tests/lifecycle/*, AdvancedCore/src/test/java/com/bencodez/advancedcore/tests/user/PreStorageHookAdmissionTest.java |
Tests cover deadlines, admission retention, ownership release, process hooks, deferred retirement, preparation stages, and cleanup ordering. |
Durable publication and persistence
| Layer / File(s) | Summary |
|---|---|
ServerData publication ordering ServerData.java, ServerDataTimeTransitionTest.java, ServerDataPublicationOrderingTest.java |
Final mutations use staged YAML publication, reconciliation, checked persistence, and fencing after uncertain replacement outcomes. Tests cover ordering, recovery, and publication failures. |
Inventory and permission persistence FullInventoryHandler.java, PermissionHandler.java, FullInventoryHandlerTest.java, FullInventoryFinalPublicationTest.java, FullInventoryPublicationMonitorTest.java, PermissionShutdownPersistenceTest.java |
Inventory and timed-permission shutdown persistence runs asynchronously and reports publication failures. Tests check ordering, replay receipts, and publication failure cases. |
Replay admission and calendar scheduling
| Layer / File(s) | Summary |
|---|---|
Replay admission and retirement RewardHandler.java, AdvancedCoreUser.java, CoreRuntimeAdmittedRetirementTest.java, RewardHandlerTest.java |
Admitted replay work remains associated with storage through deferred execution, acknowledgement, retries, and shutdown. |
Requested calendar checks TimeChecker.java, TimeCheckerRequestedUpdateTest.java, TimeCheckerShutdownAdmissionTest.java |
Reload-triggered checks are coalesced on the existing timer and included in shutdown draining. Recovered transitions are validated under the publication monitor. |
Documentation and supporting updates
| Layer / File(s) | Summary |
|---|---|
Runtime contract documentation README.md, docs/shared-runtime-foundation.md, docs/shared-sql-user-access.md, AGENTS.md |
Documentation describes shutdown budgets, ownership retention, publication settlement, storage-worker behavior, and lifecycle ordering. |
Fixture and dependency alignment AdvancedCore/src/test/java/..., AdvancedCore/pom.xml |
Test fixtures use real publication and admission behavior where required. The dependency comment reflects shared lifecycle support. |

Security Architecture Review
-
Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to
03f55The normal shutdown path better preserves accepted writes and keeps storage open until its owning worker finishes. No new player-facing access or increased privileges were identified. A conditional ownership risk remains if an embedding plugin invokes shutdown repeatedly while earlier preparation is pending.
Retained concerns
- Low · reliability · inferred: Preparation ownership is guarded within one Bukkit adapter, not across shutdown invocations for the same plugin. If trusted embedding code repeats shutdown while one preparation stage remains pending and the later stage settles first, the later adapter can initiate retirement of the same store before the earlier preparation finishes. This is a conditional persistence-ownership risk, not an established player-controlled attack path; the facade construction predates this PR, but asynchronous preparation introduces the overlapping ownership obligation.
Security review details
-
Security Blast Radius
- inferred — The inspected shutdown path affects the supplied plugin instance's loaded user store and timers. Persistence impact can span that store's user data, rather than one player. Exposure across external consumers or shared deployments cannot be bounded from this checkout.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
- inferred — The repository production caller is the plugin disable lifecycle, and the changed deferred-cleanup method remains private. The new hooks execute trusted embedding-plugin code with its existing authority; no player or remote caller was identified for this shutdown path. External embeddings may expose different callers and were not available for review.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
- observed — Calendar request admission and running state are synchronized. Shutdown captures the request drain; skipped or rejected requests settle it, and deferred cleanup can settle a queued request without treating an already-running request as finished. These controls contain asynchronous reload work within the existing shutdown ownership boundary.
Hardening Proposals
- proposed — A plugin-scoped shutdown completion and preparation fence could make repeated lifecycle calls share one ownership transition. Alternatively, an explicit single-invocation embedding contract could define and enforce the supported lifecycle boundary.

Keeps accepted storage and final-file writes owned through shutdown and reload, while bounding the shared shutdown waits with one monotonic 15-second budget. Failed or cancelled preparation remains observable and does not silently acknowledge unfinished persistence.
Changes
Expose
ServerData.mutateOrdinaryData(Consumer<FileConfiguration>)for ordered live mutation and in-memory projection before ordinary disk I/O. Preserve custom save owners and bulk no-save behavior.Reject unknown replacement outcomes before ordinary callbacks, mutations, reload or setup can change live YAML.
Integrate current master’s FoliaLib 0.5.1 scheduler dispatch, one-shot admission and packaged relocation checks. Resolve the scheduler fixture conflict while preserving both parents’ behavior.
Confirm replay-overflow publication through the actual owner before acknowledging delivery. Serialize snapshot capture and owner-stage settlement so an older asynchronous save cannot overwrite a newer acknowledged item. Preserve reservations and keep uncertain publication separate from proved pre-publication fallback.
Reuse one final stage across legacy and asynchronous inventory shutdown. Reject new timer work immediately while draining accepted continuations; keep deferred publications off platform completion threads.
Preserve shutdown and same-JVM re-enable when ServerData is intentionally disabled: stop inventory and permission handlers while skipping final writes to an uninitialized file. Already initialized data still publishes even if the load flag changes, and enabled-but-missing data still fails safely.
Register bounded JVM-exit observation during startup, before a host shutdown hook can begin disabling plugins. Its grace uses the original disable deadline and never counts timeout as successful publication.
Preserve current master player-presence cleanup even if another independent cleanup fails.
Carry already admitted timed, normal offline and forced-offline replay checks through player-state capture and queued storage work, releasing admission only after replay-tail registration or capture/submission failure.
Keep async replay ownership independent of caller cancellation, including cancellation before successful player-state capture. Accepted replays still complete durable acknowledgement or restore before storage retirement.
Fence new timed, offline and forced-offline persisted replay checks during shutdown. Drain checks already executing before snapshotting their asynchronous replay tails, then retain storage through acknowledgement or restore without extending the caller deadline.
Let accepted storage-retirement completion retain the native provider and daemon worker after the caller deadline.
Publish admitted retirement completion before worker submission, so a concurrent deadline monitor cannot retire the executor before final-flush admission. Rejected submission settles that same completion exceptionally.
Capture admitted storage ownership before deferred unload, so mutable loading flags cannot skip the accepted manager's flush and cleanup.
Fence calendar work and interrupt held calendar workers on the forced path. Settle unstarted requested checks without cancelling a running check's completion contract.
Retain the native storage owner until accepted preparation and publication actually settle. Repeated disable does not submit stale writes after ownership release.
Add completion-aware final-file publication and a bounded native ServerData admission token shared across shaded classloaders.
Stage final YAML changes without replacing live configuration identity. Serialize native reload, bulk replacement and publication against the actual file owner; custom ordered owners retain their own asynchronous contract.
Preserve permission, calendar and overflow state through final publication and ordinary subsequent saves.
Expose the stable publication monitor for
ServerDatafacades. Overflow replacement and recovered calendar validation use the advertised backing-owner lock, preventing ordinary or final saves from publishing an intermediate live mutation. Native owners retain their existing monitor; asynchronous completion remains separate from locking.Chain complete final-file publication stages so asynchronous owners finish each whole-file snapshot before the next starts.
Settle a known visible native final replacement with one bounded durability/cleanup retry. Persistent uncertainty fences later saves, reload and setup so another publication cannot commit unacknowledged overflow.
Preserve failure when a throwing replacement leaves bytes equal to both the predecessor and candidate; equal hashes alone cannot confirm installation of the forced temporary file.
Legacy custom
ServerDataowners receive final mutations on their existing YAML followed by their establishedsaveData()hook, each once. Mutation/save failures propagate. A void save cannot confirm durable publication, so the returned stage remains explicitly exceptional; native owners still publish checked candidates transactionally. The 15-second bound covers waits owned by this shutdown implementation. Arbitrary third-party synchronous hooks and non-cooperative callbacks are outside that bound; this is not an unconditional whole-server shutdown-time guarantee. A permanently pending hook retains only the daemon persistence owner until JVM exit. Unfinished work is not reported as durably saved. No new required configuration, storage migration or SQL fallback is introduced.
Current validation
The production shutdown-observation correction remains included: caller cancellation or forged completion cannot advance lifecycle publications ahead of the actual inventory owner. A subsequent GitHub merge build exposed two timing-sensitive assertions in its test fixture. That failed result is retained separately from local passing results.
The fixture now waits for the actual permission-start event through a bounded latch rather than treating a queued executor barrier as proof that a later callback has queued and started its successor. Both negative start checks, the timestamp ordering, final saved data and worker-termination assertions remain. Production source, APIs, dependency selectors and serialized data are unchanged by this follow-up.
1ebc86554a2fa882e03a3aa9dd6ae68fc8647fbf332919630a0007f65596891b; only the version resource differs.bfded64b30b970e886fe985342b7e50241839426passed 2,709 unit tests and five artifact checks, with one optional diagnostic skipped; MCPerks I am lost and confused. #76 at4ee7412eee29ab7918597a699a44c301947ff5c5passed 455 tests. Both used the full producer descriptor, with actual classpath/dependency, source, relocation and archive checks. These consumers were not rebuilt for this fixture-only follow-up.The prior corrected consumer invocation passed after an initial offline repository-context failure before compilation; neither that setup failure nor the previous hosted test failure is relabeled as a successful build. The VotingPlugin validation JAR remains above the advisory 10 MiB target. Isolated validation artifacts are not normal-coordinate Maven releases.
Remaining gates
Current head
7b46a93cpassed Maven run40220466223. Its actual merge with masterdb19c64dpassed 1,698 unit tests and two packaged-artifact checks, including the separately merged permission regressions. Current-head Codex code review completed with no findings, all 20 review threads are resolved, and CodeRabbit status is successful. The optional security review remains attached to earlier commit5da4c2b; it is not a current-head security result. No manual review trigger was used. The source is ready for owner review. The successful run does not replace the retained failure on the preceding head. Normal dependency delivery and the separately scoped runtime, old-binary and release acceptance below remain outstanding.
MCPerks #76 and VotingPlugin #1701 depend on the additive shutdown/final-publication contract. The companion's recorded normal-dependency CI failed with published AdvancedCore snapshot 134, which lacks those APIs; later normal publications require separate verification. Normal-coordinate acceptance follows the ordinary owner-controlled merge and compatible dependency publication, which are separate from these exact-SDK checks.
Native gameplay, active-writer/restart data preservation, Folia, old compiled third-party integrations and release acceptance remain unverified for this follow-up. The previously characterized binary differences in published scheduler dependencies are separate from this overflow correction; no upstream contribution, dependency fork or corrected release is claimed.
No merge, artifact publication, release, deployment or live-server run is performed.
