Summary

  • move BYO mode metadata and field guidance behind focus/error-aware hints, remove the preview note, and preserve keyboard-accessible mode buttons
  • replace the Settings Connected apps surface with a Connectors link and collapsed Developer apps disclosure
  • keep connector fetches out of the developer-app disclosure and cover the new layout contracts

Verification

  • focused Jest: 15 suites / 334 tests passed
  • Settings + AppsManagement focused tests: 23 tests passed
  • frontend typecheck passed
  • changed-file ESLint: 0 errors (13 existing warnings)
  • git diff --check passed

UX render/gate and Sam-window merge hold remain.

📝 Walkthrough

The Settings page links to Connectors and moves developer apps into a disclosure. The BYO setup screen adds field-level validation feedback and mode guidance, and removes its machine-specific preview note. Locale strings, styles, and tests were updated.

Add a test for showIntegrations={false} in AppsManagement.test.tsx.

The new showIntegrations branch in the fetch effect has no test. Add a case that renders AppsManagement with showIntegrations={false} and asserts the following:

  • No request is made to /api/integrations/user/all.
  • A request is made to /api/apps.
  • The Existing Integrations section is not rendered.

This case protects the new branch. A regression that restores the integration fetch, or that skips /api/apps, would pass the current tests.

Pass the turn limit to the hosted hint.

agentByo.mode.hostedMeta contains {{turns}}, but this t() call supplies no turns value. Opening the hint shows an unresolved placeholder instead of the beta limit. Pass hosting.caps.turnsPerDay to this call when rendering the hosted card.

Keep a field error when an unrelated control changes.

If the name field is invalid, changing the adapter clears errorField even though the name is still invalid. The model handlers do the same. Clear a field error only when the user edits that field, so its guidance remains visible until correction.

Show the error state on the invalid control.

When machine validation fails, .v2-byo__field--error only reveals a child .v2-byo__hint. The machine field has no such child, so the field itself receives no visual error state. The general error message remains visible, but it does not identify the invalid control. Add an invalid border or equivalent treatment to .v2-byo__field--error > .v2-byo__input.

Cover the opted-out fetch path with the real component.

V2SettingsPage.test.tsx mocks AppsManagement, and the existing AppsManagement settings test omits showIntegrations={false}. A regression could therefore fetch /api/integrations/user/all while both suites pass. Add a focused test that renders the real component with the opt-out and asserts that it requests /api/apps but not the integrations endpoint.

Normalize malformed availability responses before rendering the hosted option.

A rejected availability request already sets an unconfigured fallback. However, a fulfilled malformed response without a boolean configured leaves hosting as null. If machines are available, the mode group still renders and hosting.caps.turnsPerDay throws. Treat malformed responses as unavailable, and render the hosted option only when the complete availability payload is valid.

Connector-ops lane review (the BYO strings) at exact head 5c6ac1336af9e709161508cd83ab69cf164b7007.

This PR re-adds three mode hints that the #2489 copy cut removed (hostedHint, byoHint, machineHint). In V2AgentBYO.tsx (~936–972) each one now sits behind a V2Hint "More about {{mode}}" disclosure, not as default visible text. That's consistent with "at most one short hint per screen". hostedHint still reads the server's turn cap (hosting.caps.turnsPerDay). noteMachine is removed with no remaining reference in frontend/src/v2.

Not blocking: byoHint names only "Claude Code or Codex". The walked set is wider (OpenCode, Hermes, DeepSeek Harness via the CLI). TASK-361's harness picker is the place to show that, so leave this string generic or let that row replace it.

Render review at 5c6ac13.

  1. The BYO mode cards lose their card styling (blocking). This head renames every .v2-root button.v2-byo__mode… rule to a bare .v2-byo__mode…. That drops the specificity to (0,1,0), and (0,2,0) for the pressed state. The global reset .v2-root button:not(.MuiButtonBase-root) (v2.css:201, specificity (0,2,1)) now wins and sets border: none; background: none; padding: 0. I measured both the pressed and unpressed card in Chromium with this head's v2.css: border 0px none, padding 0px, background transparent. The cards render as bare text, and the pressed card's 2px accent border (Signal rule 1) is gone, so the selected mode isn't visible. It's the same class of bug as #2476. Restore the .v2-root button.v2-byo__mode prefix on the card, hover, focus-visible and pressed rules, and pin a pressed-state border in the invariant.
  2. The "More about Run it here" hint shows a raw placeholder (blocking). It renders t('agentByo.mode.hostedMeta') with no turns, but the string is Live in a few seconds · Beta: {{turns}} turns a day, so the popover reads Beta: {{turns}} turns a day literally. The beta cap also now appears twice for the hosted card, once in hostedHint on the card and again in the hint. Pass turns, or better, leave the cap in one place.
  3. zh machineHint uses an em dash (copy). It reads 在你已添加的电脑上运行——你的文件、你的 CLI, but a zh sentence takes , rather than —— (repo zh rule). Suggest 在你已添加的电脑上运行,使用你的文件和 CLI.

Not blocking: the Settings link row (Connectors, Manage connected services and channels) and the Developer apps summary are hardcoded English. That matches the existing hardcoded section titles there, but zh users will see English, so put them through i18n when that page is localized.

Render re-gate at 91b69ad, after my HOLD at 5c6ac13 (review 5629056163). The delta is the selector restore, the turns fix and their tests.

  1. Mode cards are fixed. All five rules are back on .v2-root button.v2-byo__mode…: base, kicker, hover, focus-visible and pressed. The base rule's (0,2,1) ties the reset and wins on source order; the pressed rule's (0,3,1) beats it outright. I re-measured in Chromium with this head's v2.css. The pressed card has a 2px solid accent border, padding 15px 17px 13px and a white background. The unpressed card has a 1px solid border, padding 16px 18px 14px and a white background. The selected mode is visible again, and the invariant now pins the pressed border.
  2. The hosted hint is fixed. hostedMeta now gets turns, and a test asserts that no raw {{ renders. The beta cap still shows in both the card hint and the popover. That's a copy duplication, not a render defect, so it doesn't block.

One item outside my render lane is still open: zh machineHint still reads 在你已添加的电脑上运行——你的文件、你的 CLI, with —— where the zh rule takes ,. That belongs to the strings gate.

v2-byo__field--error only reveals the hint. It does not change the machine, name, or pod control, so the invalid control still looks normal. Add an error border for .v2-byo__field--error .v2-byo__input while preserving the focus ring.

Add regression coverage for field validation.

The new machine, name, and pod validation paths set errorField, and edits clear the error marker. The changed tests cover hosted hints and preview text, but do not exercise these paths. Add tests that submit with each required value missing, assert the matching v2-byo__field--error state, and assert that editing the field clears it.

Render re-stamp at 6d29f18. My render PASS was at 91b69ad (review 5629181448).

The delta touches two files: one zh-CN string (machineHint, which swaps —— for ,) and its i18n assertion. No CSS, component or layout file changed, so the mode-card measurements at 91b69ad still hold: the pressed card has a 2px accent border with padding 15/17/13, and the unpressed card has a 1px border with padding 16/18/14.

#2500 TASK-325 at 6d29f18 — GATE: HOLD

Important

  • frontend/src/v2/components/V2AgentBYO.tsx:1002 (also 1024, 1038): adapter and model edits call setErrorField(null) even when the invalid name or pod has not changed. For example, submit an empty name, then change the adapter: the name hint disappears while the name and error message remain. This contradicts the CSS contract that error guidance stays until that field is edited. Clear only the edited field's marker, and pin the sequence in a component test.
  • frontend/src/components/AppsManagement.tsx:182: the new showIntegrations={false} fetch branch is not exercised by the tests. V2SettingsPage.test.tsx mocks AppsManagement, and the source-scan assertion checks only that the prop is passed. A regression that fetches integrations or shows Existing Integrations on Settings would remain green. Render the real component with the opt-out and assert /api/apps is requested, the integrations endpoint is not, and the integrations section is absent.

The zh-CN machine hint now uses , with an exact assertion. Required CI is green; Lumen's render PASS is recorded at this head. Those checks do not cover the two paths above.

Cover the non-Codex model select.

The test changes the adapter to codex, so it exercises the text-input branch. The reachable non-Codex branch renders a separate <select> handler. Existing Claude tests check submission only. A regression that clears errorField in that select handler could pass the current tests.

Suggested fix
     fireEvent.change(screen.getByTestId('byo-model-select'), { target: { value: 'gpt-6-sol' } });
     expect(nameField).toHaveClass('v2-byo__field--error');

#2500 TASK-325 at 6887796 — GATE: PASS

Both findings in HOLD review 5630391524 are fixed at this head. Adapter and model edits preserve an unrelated BYO field error. The real AppsManagement test confirms Settings still fetches /api/apps while skipping the integrations endpoint and section. The targeted suites pass (19/19). Reintroducing each old behavior separately makes its paired new assertion fail. The zh-CN machine hint remains corrected with an exact i18n assertion. Required CI, E2E, CodeQL, and CodeRabbit are green.

This code and strings verdict does not itself measure rendered layout.

Render re-stamp at 6887796. My last render PASS was at 6d29f18 (review 5629263670).

The delta is tests plus one behaviour change in V2AgentBYO.tsx: changing the adapter or model no longer clears another field's error. A machine, name or pod error now keeps its hint until that same field is edited, which is what the .v2-byo__field--error > .v2-byo__hint rule's comment says it should do. No CSS, markup or class names changed, so the mode-card measurements from 91b69ad still hold.

Connector-ops lane re-stamp at exact head 6887796f7b4cd9639e0d3f691cd47c60d9898030.

I read the delta since my PASS at 5c6ac133. The BYO mode-card rules regain the .v2-root button.v2-byo__mode prefix, with the pressed-state 2px border pinned in v2-layout-invariants. hostedMeta now gets turns from the server cap, and a test asserts no hint renders a raw {{. The zh machineHint uses the full-width , with an exact assertion. Adapter and model edits no longer clear unrelated BYO field errors, with a regression test. lumen's render PASS and sable's code/strings PASS are on this head, and no BYO string claims more than is walked.
