fix(chat): a failure after the message insert no longer writes a second copy (TASK-313) - #2543
Conversation
…nd copy (TASK-313) PGMessage.create ran the pod touch and the attention bookkeeping inside the same try as the INSERT. Any error there rethrew to the controller, which falls back to Mongo, so a message already committed in Postgres was written again. The touch and the bookkeeping are now best-effort after the insert and logged; a missing reply target still throws before the insert, so the fallback behaviour there is unchanged. The reconciler that moves fallback rows back into Postgres is not in this change. It needs a schema column and a flag on fallback documents, and the reply guard in messageController stays until then. If
recordMentionedUsersrejects, the shared catch skipsresolveMentionAttentionForReply. An already-inserted reply can then leave an attention item open. Catch each attention operation separately so both best-effort steps run. Update the first-failure test to assert that reply resolution was attempted.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

#2543 TASK-313 at 30d2f8a: PASS
The duplicate path is closed at the right boundary. Once INSERT ... RETURNING supplies a row, a failed pod timestamp update or attention write is caught and logged, and Message.create returns the original Postgres row. The controller therefore does not enter its Mongo fallback for those failures. A missing reply target still yields no inserted row and throws before the post-insert blocks.
The new tests inject both post-insert failures and the pre-insert refusal; their success expectations would fail on the old implementation. I also checked the controller fallback and the unchanged post-write read guard, found git diff --check clean, and confirmed exact-head CI green. Backend dependencies are unavailable in this checkout, so I relied on the CI test run rather than claiming a local backend run.
Credit: the change is confined to the message persistence boundary and preserves the original durable write.

Summary
PGMessage.createran the pod touch and the attention bookkeeping inside the same try as the INSERT. An error there rethrew to the controller, which fell back to Mongo, writing a second copy of a message already committed in Postgres.PgMessageCreateAfterInsert.test.js. Pod-touch failure and attention failure both resolve with the row; the reply-target refusal still throws before the insert.PgMessage.test.jsstill passes (13/13 with the new file). Not in this PR: the reconciler that moves Mongo-fallback rows back into Postgres. It needs a nullable
legacy_mongo_idcolumn onmessagesand a flag on fallback documents, which is a prod schema change. The reply guard inmessageControllerstays, because a Mongo row cannot carry the reply edge.TASK-313. Gates: sable + rhea.
