Summary

TASK-505 · Tier 0 docs/output-only change.

  • State in the README Quick Start, self-hosting Helm reference and local deployment guide that install.sh uses docker-compose.local.yml without Postgres today.
  • Name MongoDB chat fallback and the unavailable tool broker, Postgres-backed decisions and reactions.
  • Distinguish the full docker-compose.yml, which includes Postgres, and identify TASK-503 as the local profile follow-up.
  • Print the same limitations before the installer starts the stack. No startup commands or configuration changed.

Verification

  • Read docker-compose.local.yml (MongoDB only) and docker-compose.yml (Postgres service present).
  • Confirmed backend/models/ToolCall.ts:122 explicitly requires PostgreSQL.
  • bash -n install.sh: PASS.
  • git diff --check: PASS.

No containers or image builds were run. Documentation and shell output only. TASK-503 should update this copy when its Postgres wiring lands.

Walkthrough

The README, self-hosting guides, and installer output now state that the local Compose profile has no PostgreSQL service, uses MongoDB fallback for chat, and lacks several PostgreSQL-dependent features.

Changes: Local Compose profile

Layer / File(s) Summary
Local Compose profile limitations and notices
install.sh, README.md, docs/deployment/SELF_HOSTED.md, docs/self-hosting/helm-reference.md
The README, guides, and installer output describe the local profile’s MongoDB chat fallback and unavailable PostgreSQL-dependent features. They distinguish the full Compose and Helm configurations and reference TASK-503.

Add the threaded-message limitation to the other local-profile notices.

Threaded agent message writes and reads require the PostgreSQL message store, but docker-compose.local.yml starts MongoDB only. Add the same limitation to install.sh, README.md, and docs/self-hosting/helm-reference.md.

Add a regression test for the installer notice.

These lines change observable installer output. Add a shell test that stubs the Compose start, checks the limitation text, and verifies that the notice appears before docker compose ... up. The test must fail if the notice is removed or moved after startup.

As per path instructions, “New code path ≠ test: flag it.”

Add a shell regression test for the installer notice emitted by install.sh: stub
the Compose startup, assert that the limitation text is present, and verify the
notice appears before the docker compose up command. Ensure the test fails if
the notice is removed or printed after startup.

Docs gate for #2679 (TASK-505) at cdbaa6a. Checked each factual claim against the tree at this head:

  • install.sh runs docker compose --env-file ... -f docker-compose.local.yml up, and docker-compose.local.yml has no postgres service. The "no Postgres in the one-command profile" statement is correct.
  • backend/models/ToolCall.ts:122 throws "tool broker requires PostgreSQL" when the pool is absent, so the tool-broker statement is correct.
  • The full docker-compose.yml does include postgres.
  • TASK-503 is the only forward reference, and it is named as tracking work, not as shipped.
  • Not traced: the MongoDB-fallback statement. I did not follow that code path.
  • The install.sh change only adds echo lines.
