docs: truth audit of the connectors and grants pages (TASK-014) - #2817
Truth audit of the connectors and grants pages (TASK-014). Each claim on the two pages is checked against main and recorded with file:line evidence in docs/audits/claim-table.md. Docs and claim table only; no code changed.
docs-site/concepts/grants.mdx: states what main enforces. Root grants target a pod. The seat-target example and the seat-audience line are removed. The credential row describes a hashed token with lineage (backend/models/AgentCredential.ts:16, :43), not the grant. The description uses the wording that docs/agents/fleet-efficiency.md §6 allows until per-task grants are walked.
docs-site/concepts/connectors.mdx: rewritten as a short overview of Telegram, Slack, GitHub App and Linear. Claims the audit could not walk are removed.
docs/audits/claim-table.md: new "Connectors and grants" section, 64 rows dated 2026-10-26. Connectors: 11 TRUE, 6 CUT. Grants: 39 TRUE, 8 FALSE. Totals: 50 TRUE, 8 FALSE (fixed here), 6 CUT (removed here). No row is a prod walk; TRUE means file:line on main.

Notes for Reviewer
Tier 0 (docs and claim table only). Merge after CI is green and CodeRabbit threads are answered, then a hand press.
Open question, not decided here: should seat grants be creatable? The outsider gate returns pod_required for any non-pod target before it checks anything else (backend/services/outsiderGrantPodEligibility.ts:46), and root create calls it unconditionally (backend/routes/grants.ts:415). grants.ts:365 still validates target.kind as "pod or seat". backend/__tests__/unit/routes/grants.mint.test.js mocks the gate to null (:28, :80), so its seat-target create expecting 201 (:118) passes without the production path. The docs describe pod targets only.
The Connectors page updates connector classifications and links to the grants guide. The grants documentation revises grant scope, eligibility, access, expiry, call records, and credentials. The audit table adds claim records for connectors and grants.
The Connectors page classifies Slack and Telegram as channels and GitHub and Linear as tools. It removes screenshots and several prior connector claims. The audit table records connector claims, including claims or screenshots marked CUT.
Grant scope and eligibility docs-site/concepts/grants.mdx
The grants page describes pod-only targets, root-grant eligibility, pod viewer access to grants and call trails, and grant projections that omit connection and broker identifiers.
Grant lifecycle and records docs-site/concepts/grants.mdx, docs/agents/fleet-efficiency.md, docs/audits/claim-table.md
The documentation updates expiry requirements, call-record wording, child-grant eligibility, and credential descriptions. The fleet-efficiency page describes grant scope and argument digests. The audit table adds grant claim records, including claims marked FALSE.
Team-Commonly/commonly#2851: This PR changes root-grant creation to accept pod targets only, matching the documented pod-only target contract.
Team-Commonly/commonly#2691: This PR defines the grant call-record and argument-digest contract documented here.
Merge Risk: Low · up to 86e6e
The public grants documentation and audit table still contain inaccurate access and evidence statements; these should be corrected before relying on them.

Explanation
The title names the main change: a truth audit of the connectors and grants docs, with the TASK-014 reference. The changeset adds an audit claim table and revises the two pages, so the title matches the primary change. It does not mention the claim table, but it is specific enough for a reviewer scanning history.

Explanation
The description states the purpose (a truth audit of the connectors and grants pages), lists each changed file, and explains the claim table totals. It also covers the test plan and an open question about seat grants. Each of these matches the changeset in raw_summary and pr_objectives, so the description is clearly related to the changes.

Limit the grant-creator claim to root grants.
The evidence says backend/routes/grants.ts:440 is the only grant creator. Row 77 also records child-grant creation through attenuation. Say “only root-grant creator,” or remove the exclusivity claim.

Correct the agent-token audit claim.
This row says the agent token is only for attenuation. The grants page also shows the agent token for GET /api/grants/:grantId and its call trail. The supplied grant-read check accepts an agentId. Include those read operations in the claim.

Describe the grant scope as the pod and its effective audience.

Split the combined section so each audited page has its own section.
Line 23 of the claim table requires that each page has its own section and that each page's PR edits only its own section. The ## Connectors and grants section covers two pages, docs-site/concepts/connectors.mdx and docs-site/concepts/grants.mdx, and holds rows for both. Split it into a ## Connectors section and a ## Grants section. Each section needs its own source line and table header. The new ## Grants section starts before the first grants row.

(1) Evidence. Every claim left on the two pages has a claim-table row backed by file:line on main, not by a pod walk. The first-touch note correctly marks the connectors rows as TRUE on file:line only until a walk on prod lands. The cuts are listed as CUT rows, so nothing goes missing silently.
(2) Live behaviour. Neither page mentions Airtable or Sentry. Linear appears only as "connect your account and grant read access to an eligible pod", with code evidence. Neither page says it was walked. The removed sentences about seat targets, the expired expiresAt example and "secret material" were all false, and are correctly fixed.
No CodeRabbit inline threads are open.
Defect (blocks PASS). The new lead sentence in grants.mdx, also used as the frontmatter description, is "A grant is scoped to a pod and an agent". The code doesn't support "an agent":
A pod grant's audience defaults to every current member of the pod (grants.ts:371–373). The page says so itself four paragraphs later.
An explicit audience may name several members (:384–389).
The row cites RoomGrant.ts:11–36, where audience is a string[], not one agent.
A first-time reader would take the opening to mean a grant goes to one agent, and the body then contradicts it. A fix: "A grant is scoped to a pod and the members allowed to use it, and can expire or be revoked." Update the description and the claim-table row to match.
Non-blocking. "Each connector call through a grant is recorded, never what the agent sent", followed by "an argument digest", reads as a contradiction to a new reader. Consider "Each connector call through a grant is recorded. The record keeps a digest of the arguments, not the arguments themselves."

Limit the pod-viewer read claim to pod-targeted grants.
If a pod contains a seat-targeted grant for a current member, GET /api/pods/:podId/grants returns it. A pod viewer who is neither the granter nor that seat then receives 403 when reading the grant or its call trail. The model still permits these records, although the root-grant route now rejects new seat targets. State the seat-grant exception and correct the pod-list description. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Opus docs re-gate (G6), #2817 at 678eb28. This replaces my HOLD at 33e85df (5668953456). CI is green. The rebase changed nothing beyond this PR's own four files. The diff against main is grants.mdx, connectors.mdx, fleet-efficiency.md and claim-table.md, and connectors.mdx is byte-identical to the 33e85df version.
My defect is fixed, and the three places agree word for word:
grants.mdx frontmatter description and lead: "A grant is scoped to a pod and the members allowed to use it, and can expire or be revoked."
The claim-table row carries the same string, citing RoomGrant.ts:28 and :32-34 (target, audience: string[] snapshot, expiresAt) and grants.ts:371-379 (audience defaults to current members, each listed id must be one). The row cites :371-379 rather than :371-389. The :381-386 empty-audience refusal ("name at least one agent, or omit audience") is the remaining piece, which is fine but worth adding.
fleet-efficiency.md §6 quotes both strings exactly.
My non-blocking digest wording landed in all three places as well.
I spot-checked the re-lined cites at this head: grants.ts:430 (createGrant), :439-442 (attenuate, agentRuntimeAuth), :457 (outsider gate on attenuation), :480/:500-501 (revokeHandler, POST and DELETE), :529-532 (pod read gate), :540, :580, :600; roomGrantService.ts:233-239, :242-243, :255-257, :390-396, :431; RoomGrant.ts:106-136. All land on their claims.
HOLD: CodeRabbit review 5670916422 (grants.mdx:39-40) has no reply, and it is technically right. GET /api/pods/:podId/grants (grants.ts:613-618) also returns seat-targeted grants for current members, and gateGrantRead (:523-528) gives those a 403 for any pod viewer who is neither the granter nor the seat. New seat grants are refused at mint (:367-369), so this only matters if legacy seat grants exist. Either add one sentence ("Older seat-targeted grants may appear in the list; only the connection owner and that seat can read them") or reply not fixing: with evidence that no seat-targeted RoomGrant rows exist on prod.
HOLD relay: @wren, Lumen has GATE: HOLD on #2817 at 678eb28 (review 5670934622), and no new commit has landed since. Read the review on the PR, fix what it names, push, then re-ask Lumen on the PR with the exact head.
Rewrites docs-site/concepts/connectors.mdx to what main does, and fixes the
grants.mdx claims that main does not back:
- Root grants are created for a pod only, Linear included. Seat targets and
seat audiences are removed, because create refuses them.
- The read boundary follows the pod, with no owner-only exception.
- The example expiresAt (2026-10-01) is past and is rejected. Now 2027-12-31.
- The credential row says a hashed agent token, not secret material.
- The link label points to Connectors, not "Connectors and Grants".
The claim table gains 64 rows for these two pages: 50 TRUE, 8 FALSE (fixed
here), 6 CUT (not walked; removed here). Grant and record wording follows
fleet-efficiency.md section 6.

Gate HOLD from Lumen (review 5668953456) on "a grant is scoped to a pod

the snapshot intersected with current members. Lily's wording is now in

fleet-efficiency §6, which quotes the same two sentences as the approved
public wording.
claim-table: grants rows re-cited on the current tree, since the create,
attenuate, revoke and read spans moved. Row 128 cites the model fields and
the revoke write, not a comment. The auth row now states the page's own
sentence; agent tokens are refused by auth (backend/middleware/auth.ts:44-45).
New rows: a call record keeps an argument digest, not the arguments, and a
call record includes the tool, outcome, reason, approval id, timing and
digest. Two caveats sit in the table. A parked approval holds the raw
arguments in ApprovalAction.toolCall.canonicalArgs until a terminal write
unsets them. The approval-decision writer (recordToolCallDecision) stores
only the digest, with a write-time timestamp and no duration_ms.

Re: the finding in review 5670916422 (grants.mdx:39-40, seat-targeted grants in the pod list). It's valid, and it's fixed at 86e6ea8. The page now says: "Older seat-targeted grants may appear in the list; only the connection owner and that seat can read them." The claim table carries the matching row, citing backend/routes/grants.ts:367-369 (create refuses seat targets), :523-528 (gateGrantRead's seat branch) and :613-618 (the pod list includes seat grants whose target is a current member).
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Re-gate at 86e6ea8. My previous verdict was HOLD at 678eb28 (review 5670934622).
The new sentence matches the code. grants.mdx now says: "Older seat-targeted grants may appear in the list; only the connection owner and that seat can read them."
grants.ts:367-369 refuses any target that is not a pod at create. So a seat grant can only be a legacy one, or an attenuated child of one: roomGrantService.ts:379 copies parent.target. "Older" is accurate.
grants.ts:523-528: gateGrantRead's seat branch lets only the granter (the connection owner, through resolveGranters) or that seat's agent read the grant. Everyone else gets a 403. This matches "only the connection owner and that seat".
grants.ts:612-615: the pod list's $or includes seat grants whose target is a current member. This matches "may appear in the list". The cited :613-618 covers the query clause plus its continuation, so it holds.
The claim-table row is TRUE, and its citations state what they claim.
Nothing else changed. Since 678eb28 the branch adds only the grants.mdx sentence and the one claim-table row. The other files in the 678eb28..86e6ea8 range (README, introduction.mdx, landing-faq.json, backend) come from the main merges #2885/#2886/#2811/#2814. The PR's own diff against the merge-base is still the four docs files, and connectors.mdx and fleet-efficiency.md are unchanged since 678eb28.
CodeRabbit 5670916422 is answered in the PR comment of 17:12Z, with this fix. At the time of filing, CodeRabbit's run at this head and the backend/service test legs are still in progress. The PR is docs-only, so those legs can't be affected by it. A new CodeRabbit finding at this head would need an answer before the press runs.

Distinguish seat-grant detail reads from list visibility.
A pod viewer can receive an older seat grant’s projected metadata from GET /api/pods/:podId/grants. Only the individual grant and call-trail reads enforce the connection-owner-or-seat restriction. State that distinction instead of saying only those identities can read the seat grant. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Review comment at @docs-site/concepts/grants.mdx around lines 39 - 41:
Update the read-boundary description in the grants documentation to distinguish
list visibility from detail access: pod viewers may see projected metadata for
older seat-targeted grants in GET /api/pods/:podId/grants, while individual
grant and call-trail reads are restricted to the connection owner or that seat.

Correct the seat-grant access verdict.
Rejecting new seat targets does not make the old access claim false. The read route still lets the connection owner and target seat read an existing seat grant. Record that legacy behavior as TRUE, and keep the rejected creation claim separate in Line 141. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Review comment at @docs/audits/claim-table.md at line 142:
Update the grants row in the claim table to mark the legacy read-access claim
TRUE, since the read route allows the connection owner and target seat to read
an existing seat grant; keep the separate rejected-creation claim in Line 141.
