feat(connectors): an operator-key connector takes a pasted key per agent - #3353
A hosted-MCP entry with credentialMode: 'operator_key' can now be connected from the Connectors page. Its tile shows a form: pick one of your agents, paste that agent's key, then Add key. It replaces the OAuth Connect button, which posts to /start, and that route correctly answers unknown_entry for an operator-key entry. The first such entry is Latchkey (#3352, hidden on dev). This PR doesn't depend on #3352 and is tested with fixtures.
The tools entry carries credentialMode: 'operator_key' when the hosted entry has that mode, and omits the field otherwise, so OAuth and GitHub App rows are byte-identical to before.
publicConnection already sends agentId for hosted rows. Nothing secret is added.
The form (connectors/OperatorKeyForm.tsx, wired through renderEntryActions and renderEntryNote in ToolPanels.tsx):
It posts { agentId, key } to the existing POST /connect/hosted-mcp/:entryId/operator-key. No backend route or behaviour changes.
It shows the entry's connectNotice, and links accessPage as "Create a key at {{label}}".
The key field is type="password" with autocomplete off.
The key lives only in the form's local state, and is cleared when the request finishes, success or failure. The server's message text is never shown, and nothing is logged.
On success the catalogue is re-read, as after an OAuth return.
Agents.
The picker lists agents from the pod rosters the Tools page already loads (/api/registry/pods/:podId/agents), filtered to installedBy === me.
The "sole installer" half isn't visible from rosters the viewer can read, so the route's 403 agent_not_owned has the last word and shows as its own sentence.
An agent that already has a key on this entry drops out of the picker.
One key per agent. The OAuth tile assumes one connection per entry (connections.length === 0). An operator-key tile keeps the form while any of the person's agents has no key yet, and shows a note when the person has no agents. A lone key connection's Disconnect now names its agent. OAuth entries keep the old rule.

Re-pasting a key for an agent that already has one. Today that's Disconnect, then add.
The hosted-MCP catalog now identifies operator-key entries. The v2 Connectors page lets users select an eligible agent, submit an operator key, and refresh connector data. The form includes translated status and error messages.

Summary
Catalog and connection-mode contract backend/services/installable/installableCatalogService.ts, backend/__tests__/unit/services/installableCatalogService.test.js, frontend/src/v2/connectors/toolModel.ts
The catalog includes credentialMode: 'operator_key' for matching hosted entries. Frontend types include the credential mode and installer field. The catalog test checks projected fields and confirms the credential reference is not serialized.
Eligible agents and key submission frontend/src/v2/connectors/useToolConnectors.ts
The connector hook derives eligible agents from pod seats installed by the current viewer. It submits the agent ID and key, then reloads connector data after success.
Operator-key form and connector panel frontend/src/v2/connectors/OperatorKeyForm.tsx, frontend/src/v2/connectors/ToolPanels.tsx, frontend/src/v2/connectors/ConnectorsPage.tsx, frontend/src/v2/connectors/connectors.css, frontend/src/i18n/locales/en.json, frontend/src/i18n/locales/zh-CN.json, frontend/src/v2/__tests__/ConnectorsPage.operatorKey.test.tsx, frontend/src/v2/__tests__/v2-layout-invariants.test.ts, frontend/.eslintrc.js
The panel displays the form for eligible agents and retains the OAuth connect action for OAuth entries. The form validates blank keys, maps failure codes to translated messages, and clears the key after a submission attempt. Tests cover submission, errors, agent availability, OAuth presentation, layout, and Chinese translations.

Explanation
The title "feat(connectors): an operator-key connector takes a pasted key per agent" matches the main change. The PR adds a Connectors-page form that accepts an operator key pasted for one agent on hosted-MCP entries with credentialMode 'operator_key'. The backend projection and frontend components in the changeset support this. The title is specific and short, and it names the feature and the per-agent behavior.

The description explains the change clearly. It covers the new operator-key form replacing the OAuth Connect button for hosted-MCP entries, the catalogue projection of credentialMode, the agent picker drawn from pod rosters, the per-agent key rule, error mapping, zh-CN strings, and tests. This matches the changeset files, including OperatorKeyForm.tsx, ToolPanels.tsx, useToolConnectors.ts, and the locale and test files.

Review round (D218) at a82fde0. This one pass covers the code, the connector UI lane and the zh-CN strings.
The whole PR passed at 3db5ee4. That pass raised four non-blocking points, and the commit since fixes them.
Key secrecy
The key is never logged or sent to analytics. The axios error is read only for response.data.error.
The server's message is never shown; errors are fixed sentences keyed by error code.
The key goes only in the POST body.
It is cleared in finally on every path. Tests check that the key is in the DOM before submit and gone afterwards.
The field is type="password" with autocomplete="new-password", data-1p-ignore and data-lpignore.
Client contract
The URL /api/integrations/connect/hosted-mcp/:entryId/operator-key and the { agentId, key } body match the route.
Every route and intake code maps to a sentence, and anything else falls back to a generic one.
busy blocks a double submit.
Agent picker
It lists seats whose installedBy is the viewer, de-duplicated by bot User _id.
It drops agents another person installed in a roster the viewer can see, and agents already keyed on this entry. These use the same id space as config.agentId.
When a roster read fails, the page says the agents couldn't be read instead of saying there are none.
OAuth entries are unchanged. All 5 ConnectorsPage suites pass, 254 tests. The projection omits credentialMode for those entries, and publicConnection exposes nothing new.

Add a presence test for the operator-key form's flex rule.
The .v2-cx-pop__acts > .v2-cx-keyform rule at connectors.css:86 sets the form's flex sizing, but no test in the connectors.css block checks it. The repository requires a presence test for load-bearing flex sizing in frontend/src/v2/__tests__/v2-layout-invariants.test.ts, because jsdom cannot detect layout changes. Without that test, removing the rule can leave the form at its content width instead of filling the action row, and no test fails.

Keep the operator-key form available for granted entries with keyless agents.
When an entry has a live grant, the tool drawer skips renderEntryActions, even if keylessAgents still contains another owned agent. Render the operator-key form independently of the ungranted offer, while keeping other ungranted actions behind that guard. Add a drawer test with a live grant, one keyed agent, and one keyless owned agent. The existing “with one agent keyed” test covers only the popover path.

Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Require a connected receipt before reporting success.
If the POST resolves with an empty body or an HTML fallback, submitOperatorKey reloads the catalogue and returns { ok: true }. The form then clears the pasted key without reporting that no connection was created. Require the route’s integrationId and status: 'connected' receipt before returning success. The route already returns those fields. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

…; success needs the route's receipt
From CodeRabbit's review of #3353:
- A granted operator-key entry opens the drawer, and the drawer hid the
offer block, so a second agent's key had nowhere to go. The drawer now
renders the key form (renderKeyForm) while any of the person's agents
has no key.
- submitOperatorKey reports success only on the route's 201 receipt
({ integrationId, status: 'connected' }). An empty or HTML 2xx body
now reads as the generic failure and doesn't refresh.
- A presence test for the form's `flex: 1 1 100%` rule.

Name the bound agent in the connection picker.

Name the bound agent in the connection picker.
If an entry has two operator-key connections, this picker labels both owner/repo. The catalog projects those fields as empty strings for key connections, so both options appear as /. A person cannot identify the connection for the agent they intend to grant. Use each connection’s agentId to show a distinct agent label; retain the existing owner/repo label for other connections. Default an operator-key grant to its bound agent.
If the selected pod contains multiple agents, openDraft initially puts all of them in audience. The operator-key grant route accepts only an audience containing the selected connection’s bound agent. The first Grant attempt therefore fails until the person manually removes the other agents. For an operator-key connection, initialize and constrain the audience to its agentId; test the first Grant attempt in a multi-agent pod. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

@coderabbitai Thanks. Review 5759283382 had three findings. All three were real, and 0dc88b3 fixes them.
The key form disappeared on a granted entry (ToolPanels.tsx / ConnectorsPage.tsx). A granted entry opens the drawer, and the drawer hid the offer block, so a second agent had no way to get a key. The drawer now renders renderKeyForm, newly split out of renderEntryActions, whenever one of the person's agents has no key yet. The other ungranted actions stay behind the grant guard. A new test covers a live grant with Scout keyed: the drawer offers the form for Reed only. With the drawer render removed, that test fails.
Success without a receipt (useToolConnectors.ts). submitOperatorKey now returns ok only on the route's { integrationId, status: 'connected' }. An empty or HTML 2xx body reads as the generic failure, the key is cleared, and nothing reloads. A new test covers it, and fails when the check is removed.
No presence test for the form's flex rule (connectors.css:86). Added in v2-layout-invariants.test.ts: .v2-cx-pop__acts > .v2-cx-keyform keeps flex: 1 1 100%.
src/v2 and src/i18n: all 203 suites pass, 2,627 tests.

@lilyshen0722 Thanks. I inspected 0dc88b3b. The changes address all three findings:
The granted-entry drawer now offers renderKeyForm for eligible agents without a key. The regression test checks that Reed remains selectable when Scout is already keyed.
submitOperatorKey now requires a string integrationId and status: 'connected' before reloading. The HTML-response test checks the generic error, key clearing, and no catalogue refresh.
The layout presence test protects flex: 1 1 100% on the operator-key form.
I did not rerun the tests. The 203 passing suites and 2,627 passing tests are your reported results.

### Design Rules for Claude Code
9. **Ship with proof, and commit what you learned.** Every code change lands with a test at the right tier — unit for logic, service for cross-module behavior. **v2 layout/CSS changes need a real-browser check (MCP Playwright), because jsdom has no layout engine** — overflow, scroll and flex bugs are invisible to render tests. Guard load-bearing CSS rules with a presence test (`frontend/src/v2/__tests__/v2-layout-invariants.test.ts`) until a browser-layout tier exists, and stand that Playwright CI tier up only when a second person regularly ships UI or the shell has real users to protect. renderKeyForm split
renderEntryActions is unchanged for ungranted entries.
The granted drawer renders the form only for an operator_key entry with keyless agents. OAuth and GitHub entries get null, and the popover is unchanged.
The double call in the JSX condition mounts one instance, and form state holds across renders.
Every other drawer block is untouched.
Receipt check. It matches the route's 201 body { integrationId: String, status: 'connected' }. useV2Api.post returns res.data, so the receipt is read from the body.
Presence test. It asserts the real connectors.css:86 rule, which also sizes the drawer form.
Mutations.
Dropping the drawer form fails its test.
Dropping the receipt check fails its test.
Test runs. 477 of 477 pass across the operatorKey, tools and layout-invariants suites. tsc is clean.
Defects: none.
Non-blocking nits:
A stale comment now sits above renderKeyForm.
The drawer test could also assert that the grant row still renders.
@coderabbitai Thanks. Both findings in review 5759361653 are valid. The grant route accepts an operator-key grant only when its audience is exactly the bound agent (operatorKeyAudienceRefusal, routes/grants.ts:419). Today the draft starts with every agent in the pod, so the first Grant is refused, and the connection picker labels a key connection /.
This PR's scope is connecting a key, and the entry stays hidden until it is walked end to end, so the grant draft fixes go in a follow-up PR:
for an operator-key connection, the draft audience starts as, and is limited to, the connection's bound agent;
the picker names each key connection by its agent.
A hosted-MCP entry with credentialMode 'operator_key' (the first is
Latchkey, #3352) now shows a form on its tile: pick one of your agents,
paste that agent's key, then Add key. It posts to the existing
POST /connect/hosted-mcp/:entryId/operator-key, in place of the OAuth
Connect, which answers unknown_entry for such an entry.
- The catalogue projection carries credentialMode: 'operator_key'. It is
omitted for every other entry, so those rows are unchanged.
- Agents come from the pod rosters the page already reads, filtered to
ones the viewer installed. An agent someone else also installed is left
out, and so is an agent already keyed on this entry. When a roster can't
be read, the form says the agents couldn't be read, not "no agents".
- One key per agent. The form stays on the tile and in a granted entry's
drawer while any of the person's agents has no key.
- The key lives only in form state and is cleared on every path. Errors
are fixed sentences keyed by route code; the server's message is never
shown and nothing is logged. Success needs the route's
{ integrationId, status: 'connected' } receipt.
- The input is type=password and autocomplete=new-password, with the
1Password and LastPass ignore attributes.
- en and zh-CN strings, through the skill's two-pass review.
- A layout presence test for the form's flex rule.

Show the connect notice beside the key form in the granted drawer.
469-470: Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Show the connect notice beside the key form in the granted drawer.
When an entry has a live grant and a keyless agent, the granted branch renders the key form. That branch does not call renderEntryNote, so connectNotice is not shown. The access-page link appears only in the grant-details aside. That aside renders the link only when a live grant is selected and the viewer is its granter. A person who adds a key for another agent in the granted drawer therefore has no creation guidance beside the form.
Expose connectNotice and the access-page link from renderEntryNote, and render them beside the form in this branch. Do not render the whole helper here. It also adds the Linear write note, which this branch already renders above the form.
Add a test for a granted entry with one keyed agent and one keyless agent. The test should assert the connectNotice text and the access-page link.

Exclude agent-dm pods from the key-agent picker.
105-122: Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Exclude agent-dm pods from the key-agent picker.
keyAgents builds the picker from every roster seat. A roster read covers every pod in pods, including agent-dm pods that /api/pods can return. A seat installed by the viewer only on an agent-dm pod passes the filter. The route then rejects that agent with agent_not_owned, because ownsRuntimeIdentity drops agent-dm installations before it checks ownership. The user sees an offered agent that cannot be keyed.

Update the keyAgents useMemo to exclude seats from agent-dm pods when building
picker candidates, using the pod IDs from pods to identify those rosters.
Preserve the existing shared-install filtering and sorting, and include pods in
the memo dependencies.
Default operator-key grants to the connection’s bound agent.
326-335: Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Default operator-key grants to the connection’s bound agent.
The operator-key form stores the selected roster userId as the connection’s config.agentId. However, a new grant draft selects the first connection and checks every agent in the pod. The backend requires an operator-key audience to contain exactly the connection’s bound agent, so the default submission can return 400 invalid_audience.
Derive the default audience from the selected connection’s agentId. Reapply that rule when the user changes the pod or connection.

Update openDraft so new operator-key grant drafts default their audience to the
selected connection’s bound agent, while preserving existing grant audiences and
non-operator-key behavior. In ToolPanels, recalculate the audience when the pod
or connection selection changes, ensuring it contains exactly the selected
connection’s bound agent for operator-key grants.
Label the grant connection option by its agent.
538-542: Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Label the grant connection option by its agent.
Operator-key rows have empty owner and repo, so every key on an entry renders as /. The grant connection select shows only owner/repo. With two keys, the user cannot tell which option belongs to which agent. The select defaults to the first connection. A wrong choice is rejected by the server with invalid_audience, so the failure is a rejected grant that the user must retry by guessing. The fix is to label operator-key options with the agent name, and to keep owner/repo for other rows. The option value stays connection.connectionId.

Update the grant connection options in the draft connection select to display
the agent name for operator-key connections, falling back to the agent ID when
no name is available; retain owner/repo labels for other connections and keep
connection.connectionId as the option value.

@coderabbitai Thanks. Both findings in review 5759512235 are valid:
The granted drawer has no connect guidance. It shows the key form without connectNotice and the access-page link.
An agent-dm install isn't ownership.ownershipInstallations (services/runtimeIdentityOwnership.ts) drops agent-dm installations, so an agent the viewer installed only in an agent-dm pod would be offered in the picker and then refused with agent_not_owned. For the same reason, someone else's agent-dm install shouldn't count as a shared install.
Both go into the same follow-up as review 5759361653's grant-draft fixes, so this head stays where it was gated and squashed. I'll link the follow-up PR here.
mockCatalog returns the same catalogue before and after Reed's submission. This test passes when the request is posted but Reed's connection never appears. Supply an after catalogue containing both Scout and Reed. Then assert that both connections appear after refresh and that neither agent remains eligible.
As per coding guidelines, “New code path ≠ test: flag it. Name the specific test that should exist.” As per path instructions, “A test that would still pass with the fix reverted is not a test (rule 1).”

Update the test containing the keyedEntry catalogue setup to return the initial
catalogue before Reed’s submission and a refreshed catalogue containing both
Scout and Reed afterward. Assert that both connections appear after refresh and
that neither agent remains eligible, so the test fails if Reed’s connection is
not added.

@lilyshen0722 Understood. Both findings remain unresolved and belong in the same follow-up:
Show connectNotice and the access-page link alongside the granted drawer’s key form.
Exclude agent-dm installations from both ownership eligibility and shared-install detection.
I checked backend/services/runtimeIdentityOwnership.ts. ownershipInstallations applies that exclusion before both ownership checks.
Keep the entry hidden until the follow-up passes end-to-end verification, including the grant audience and connection labels. This reply does not change the PR’s approval or merge state.

Learning: Within repository "Team-Commonly/commonly", only for files matching one of ["frontend/src/v2/connectors/useToolConnectors.ts","backend/services/runtimeIdentityOwnership.ts"]: When reviewing operator-key agent eligibility in frontend/src/v2/connectors/useToolConnectors.ts or runtime ownership checks in backend/services/runtimeIdentityOwnership.ts, verify that agent-dm installations do not establish the viewer's ownership and do not count as another installer's shared installation. Apply the exclusion before both checks: a viewer's agent-dm-only installation must not make an agent eligible, and another person's agent-dm installation must not disqualify an otherwise owned agent.

@coderabbitai Thanks, review 5759653715 is valid. The second-agent test only checked the POST, so it would pass even if Reed's connection never appeared. It now refreshes into a catalogue that holds both keys, and asserts that the Disconnect labels for both Scout and Reed appear and that no key form is left. With the catalogue unchanged after submit, the test fails. Like the earlier findings, this lands in the same follow-up PR, which I'll link here.

@lilyshen0722 Thanks. The reported test now checks the result after refresh, not just the POST:
Both Scout and Reed have labelled Disconnect actions.
No key form remains when both agents have keys.
An unchanged catalogue causes the test to fail.
I have not verified the follow-up changes or run the test. The finding remains pending until the follow-up lands. Keep the entry hidden until end-to-end verification passes.

Learning: Within repository "Team-Commonly/commonly", only for files matching one of ["frontend/src/v2/__tests__/ConnectorsPage.operatorKey.test.tsx"]: When reviewing the second-agent operator-key regression test in frontend/src/v2/__tests__/ConnectorsPage.operatorKey.test.tsx, require assertions on the refreshed catalogue's rendered state, not only the submission POST. With one agent already keyed and the second eligible agent receiving a key, refresh into a catalogue containing both connections, assert labelled Disconnect actions for both agents, and assert that no key form remains when no eligible keyless agent remains. The test must fail if the catalogue stays unchanged after submission.
