fix(v2): Sam's picked surfaces and the pages drawn after them match their frames again, with 44 px touch areas on phone - #3402
On 11-04 the frame scorer found prod had moved several surfaces off their d215 frames. Four were surfaces Sam picked (Settings 390, Sidebar 390, Connectors 1440, Agent settings 390), and five were drawn after the pick (Profile, Agent profile 390, Run trace, BYO 390, Sign-up 390). The cause was the 11-04 consistency pass (#3373, #3374): it added a shared head bar to the secondary pages, made every phone key 44 px tall, and narrowed the auth card's side inset.
The ruling this PR follows:
On Sam's picked surfaces, the pick wins on look, with one limit: no phone tap target goes below 44 px. Where the frame draws a smaller control, the control is drawn at the frame's size and a transparent 44 px ::before carries the touch area.
On surfaces drawn after the pick, the build moves to the frame. No frame was edited.
What changed
Sam's picks
Settings 390: rows are back to 48. Keys are 28 and segment options 24, each with a 44 px touch area. V2SettingsPage.css.
Sidebar 390: the Recent · All · Pinned view segment is back to the frame's 28, with a 44 px touch area. Rows and bar keys stay at 44: at the frame's 36 px rows, eight rows can't each keep a 44 px target, and the floor wins. The row pin had no touch area at all (28x28, from feat(v2): sidebar matches the d215 artboard frame (TASK-735) #3139) and now has a 44x44 one. v2.css.
Connectors 1440: tool chips show the name after its connector's namespace (get_confluence_content, not atlassian.get_confluence_content), as the frame draws them. The full name is in the chip's title. Chips are also capped to the popover's width; before, the row ran 48 px past the popover's edge.
Connectors 1440: the popover moved because a Google Calendar tile now sits before Atlassian in the catalogue. It's anchored under its tile.
Agent settings 390: the extra row is the agent's "not connected" state.
Both are data, so the local scorer now serves the frame's state as fixtures, the same pattern it already uses for chat. The pages are unchanged for this.
Proof
Frame diff, all 104 pairs pass (light + dark, 1440 + 390), scored on a read-only dev:live of this branch against prod's API. Before this change, on prod 6ee09dc:
Sam's picks: 20 of 28 pass → 28 of 28
Drawn after the pick: 49 of 64 → 64 of 64
Drawn from live: 12 of 12, not counted as a style match
Margins: Sidebar 390 passes at 0.348 against a 0.35 limit, the cost of keeping 44 px rows. A Settings 390 run once failed when its Devices read failed ("Couldn't load" adds a row); the two re-runs passed.
Touch areas at 390, measured headless with elementFromPoint (the area where a tap reaches the control): every Settings and Sidebar control, the profile and run trace keys, and every BYO control is 44 or more.
No actionable comments were generated in the recent review.
Walkthrough
The PR updates V2 profile, BYO, Run Trace, and mobile control layouts. It changes connector popover labels and records a 390px sidebar row-height adjustment in the design artboard.
Agent and person profiles use page-owned headers and updated profile styling. Route classes and layout assertions also change.
BYO hint and button layout frontend/src/v2/components/V2AgentBYO.tsx, frontend/src/v2/components/V2AgentBYO.css, frontend/src/v2/__tests__/v2-layout-invariants.test.ts
The BYO lead is passed through the feature-page hint prop. Button dimensions, mobile hint-trigger hit areas, and related layout assertions change.
Run Trace page layout frontend/src/v2/V2App.tsx, frontend/src/v2/components/V2RunTrace.tsx, frontend/src/v2/components/V2RunTrace.css, frontend/src/v2/__tests__/v2-layout-invariants.test.ts
Run Trace uses a page-owned heading and back link instead of the shared header and scroll wrapper. Its styling, mobile spacing, and layout assertions also change.
Phone controls and touch areas docs/design/artboards/d215/*, frontend/src/v2/components/V2SettingsPage.css, frontend/src/v2/v2.css, frontend/src/v2/__tests__/v2-layout-invariants.test.ts
Mobile pod and Settings controls retain compact visual dimensions and gain transparent 44px touch areas. The login card inset and 390px sidebar mock row height also change.

The defect: V2SettingsPage.css:59 shrank every Settings small key to 28 px on phones, but the 44 px ::before covered only the keys in list rows. The username Save, email Change, Sign out everywhere, token Show and Copy, and Delete account and its Cancel key were left at 28 with no touch area.
The fix:
position: relative and the transparent 44 px ::before (lines 64 and 66) now use the shrink rule's own selector, .v2-settings .v2p-b.v2p-b-sm, so every key that is shrunk also gets the touch area.
Icon keys carry v2p-b v2p-b-sm too (V2SettingsPage.tsx:269, :286, :623), so they are covered.
Side effects checked:
No Settings key was positioned absolutely, so forcing position: relative moves nothing.
The keys in the token row are wider than 44 and spaced 8 px apart, so their areas don't overlap.
The stacked fold keys sit more than 16 px apart, so the 8 px vertical reach never covers a neighbour.
At ≤680 the avatar keys and the crop dialog's Cancel keep their min-height: 44px, which wins over the 28 px height.
The guard (v2-layout-invariants.test.ts:719-723) now requires the touch-area selectors to equal the shrink selector. It fails if they are scoped back to .v2p-lrow.
The author's headless elementFromPoint run had folds and editor open, at 390 and 720. Token Show/Copy and the delete Cancel were not measured, because reaching them needs a prod write or the delete dialog open. The selector covers them by construction.
Checked, no defect
Touch areas.
Every new ::before/::after is transparent, has content, is positioned absolutely, and has a positioned parent:
sidebar segment and Settings keys: position: relative, added;
sidebar pin: already position: absolute;
BYO hint trigger: position: relative.
Sidebar pin (v2.css:4622):
Its 44x44 area ends at the row's right edge and stays inside the 44 px row.
It takes about 10 px left of the pin, just reaching the unread badge, which isn't interactive. It never reaches another row.
It inherits visibility: hidden when the pin is hidden, so a hidden pin still can't catch a tap.
Sidebar view segment: every option is wider than 44, and the 8 px vertical reach stays clear of both the bar and the first row (checked in the 390 png).
Settings segment: the end options grow outward only.
The middle Theme option ("Light") is centred. If it is narrower than 44, it can take a pixel or two at the right edge of "Auto". That is negligible.
BYO hint: inset: -9px on a 28 px bordered trigger gives 26 + 18 = 44. Correct.
Profile, Agent profile and Run trace restore.
At HEAD, all six files are byte-identical to 188ac5d23^ (pre-#3373), with one exception: the agent profile bar key's touch area from #3382, the only later commit on these files.
That exception is correctly re-derived for the restored 34 px key (inset: -6px: 32 + 12 = 44, v2-agent-profile.css:136). Its guard is updated to 34 - 2 - 2·inset.
#3373 added no i18n key, fix or a11y attribute to these pages that the restore drops:
The run trace back link was an icon key with aria-label/title. It is back to a text link with visible text, which is accessible.
Retry and Refresh lose the v2p-b classes but are styled by .v2-run-trace button, at 44 min-height on phones.
The tokens --v2-radius-lg/--v2-radius-sm exist.
No orphaned class references remain.
BYO.
The hint expression is the old pageLead logic moved verbatim. It covers the same modes: issued gets none; compact hosted gets compact.lead; compact BYO gets lead or leadWindows by setupOs; otherwise description.
The only .tsx change is the lead. Nothing in #3388's Windows paths changed, and the Windows BYO suites pass.
Connectors chips.
chipName returns names without a dot unchanged, and drops only the first namespace segment.
React keys still use the full name.
title on a non-focusable span is supplementary. The popover already names the connector, so the short visible text is enough for screen readers.
The test asserts the short text and the title.
The display: block override has the higher specificity, and the chips still wrap inside the flex row, as the 1440 png shows.
.frame[data-surface="sidebar"][data-vp="390"] .pod { height: 44px; }: exactly one frame carries that attribute pair (index.html, around line 1266).
The 1440 sidebar frame (data-vp="1440") and every other frame are untouched, since no other frame has data-surface="sidebar".
No later .pod rule overrides the height. targets.jsonsidebar-390 holds only helperWords/innerRatio, so the targets need no regeneration.
The README row is accurate: 36 → 44, only the row height, labelled as the Cofounder's 11-04 call and not from Sam's pick, and reversible by Sam.
This is a frame edit. The coordinator confirmed that the Cofounder's ruling amends "frames are never edited" for this one row height, and the README records it.
Tests guard the frame's values. I spot-checked the pinned values against the d215 CSS, and all match:
.b 34/r10
.b-sm 28/r8
.seg 28, .seg--sm 24
.app.m .lrow 48
.app.m .authcard padding 28 20
profile lanes 14
The guards still hard-code these numbers rather than reading the frame. That is the repo's presence-test convention, not a blocker.
Design check (frame left, live right)
Settings 390, light and dark: matches. The extra "Couldn't load" row under Devices is data, as the PR says.
Sidebar 390, light and dark: the segment, the bar and the 44 rows match the ruling. Visible differences the scorer doesn't count:
live rows show the pin at rest where the frame shows the time;
the bar keys are 44 against the frame's 32.
The first is earlier touch-screen behaviour (#3139), and the second is the ruled floor. Not from this PR.
Profile 1440 and 390: structure matches.
Small mismatch the scorer misses: the frame sets the follower and following numbers in bold ("12 followers · 8 following"), and live sets them in regular weight. Worth a follow-up; it isn't a regression.
Run trace 390: matches. The h1 wraps differently ("How this reply was / made" against "How this reply / was made"), and "Back to pod" draws without the frame's underline. Both are minor.
BYO 390: fields land where the frame draws them, and the intro paragraph is gone. Live head differences, not from this PR:
no back arrow;
a display-face title;
the "i" sits next to the title instead of at the right edge;
the "i" triggers are 28 px bordered circles where the frame draws small bare glyphs.
Sign-up 390, dark: the 20 px inset matches the frame. No cut-off labels.
Connectors 1440: chips show the short names. The popover covers the second tile row because the catalogue has more tiles than the frame; that is data. The lowercase "connect your own Atlassian account" line is catalogue copy, not this PR.
Verdict
B1 is fixed and guarded at 7837786, and no blocking defect remains. The design notes above are follow-ups, not blockers.

Assert that each touch-area pseudo-element exists.
These tests check width, height, and transparency, but not content: ''. If that declaration is removed, the pseudo-element generates no hit area and all three tests still pass. Assert content: '' and position: absolute for the pin, sidebar segment, and Settings touch rules. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Add a presence guard for the chip overflow rule.
The new .v2-cx-pop__chips .v2-cx-chip rule sets max-width, overflow: hidden, and text-overflow: ellipsis. The popover test checks only the chip text and title, and jsdom cannot test clipping. No test in the repository matches this selector. Check the theme hit area when light is narrower than 40px.
The 2px gaps absorb the centered pseudo-element's overflow until the middle button is below 40px wide. If light is below that threshold, its pseudo-element can overlap both neighboring button boxes. The middle button can then intercept the left overlap, while the later dark pseudo-element covers the right overlap. Measure the rendered width in en and zh-CN at 390px, then use document.elementFromPoint and real taps to check both boundaries.

Cover no-period and multi-period chip names.
The current fixture can pass if the implementation strips through the last period, and it does not test names without a period. This is a missing test for the changed behavior, not a cosmetic nitpick.
