fix(discord): the install link returns to the callback, and Connectors offers Discord - #3436
We walked a Discord install on prod on 2026-11-04. The bot add never came back to Commonly. GET /api/discord/install-link/:podId built an authorize URL with no redirect_uri and no response_type=code, so Discord added the bot and stopped on its own page. /api/discord/callback never ran. With no callback there was no install proof, no channel picker and no Integration, and GET /api/discord/binding/:podId stayed 404.
The v2 shell also had no way to start the install. The catalog reports Discord as available: true, offered: false, because there is no builtin Installable row for it, so Connectors hid it and the "Connect a channel" drawer offered only Telegram and Slack.
What changes
Backend (routes/discord.ts)
The install link is now a code grant, with response_type=code and redirect_uri pointing at /api/discord/callback.
The redirect comes from one helper, discordRedirectUri(). The callback's token exchange uses the same helper, because Discord refuses an exchange whose redirect differs from the one the person authorized.
The ?clientId= query override is gone. The link always names this instance's DISCORD_CLIENT_ID.
The creator-only gate (canManagePod) is unchanged.
The OAuth state is a short-lived signed token naming the pod and the person who asked for the link, and the callback refuses any other state. The install proof carries that person too, and the channel list and the first bind accept it only from them. The legacy room now asks the server for the link instead of building its own.
Frontend (v2 Connectors)
LINK_INSTALL_PROVIDERS (Discord only) lists providers whose install is the provider's own link plus its callback. entryOffered() offers them whenever the instance holds their keys (available), even without a builtin row.
Discord now shows with Add and the line "add the bot to your server". It sits beside Telegram and Slack in Connect a channel.
Discord's Connect GETs the install link for the chosen pod and sends the browser there. It never calls the Installable lifecycle, which would answer 422 provider_not_offered.
On a 403, the page says that only the pod's creator can add the bot.
An instance without Discord keys (available: false) still doesn't list Discord, as before. Every other provider keeps the offered !== false rule.
The return trip already existed: callback, then /discord/success, which v2 serves as /v2/discord/success with the channel picker, then POST /api/integrations with the install proof. This PR is what lets a person reach it.
Out of scope: the live relay and slash commands.
Proof
New service test, backend/__tests__/service/discordInstallBind.test.js (real mongod, Discord stubbed at axios). It walks install-link → callback(code) → /discord/success?install=<proof> → channels on the proof → POST /api/integrations → GET /binding 200. It asserts the Integration row's config.serverId, config.channelId, createdBy (the installer) and webhook ref, plus the DiscordIntegration doc. It also checks that the exchange's redirect_uri equals the link's, that a caller's clientId is ignored, and that a non-creator member gets 403. On main, 3 of the 4 tests fail. With this change, all 4 pass.
ConnectorsPage.channels.test.tsx gets a new Discord block:
Discord is listed with Add and its line.
The provider order in the drawer is Telegram, Slack, Discord.
Connect calls location.assign(installUrl) and never the lifecycle POST.
A 403 shows the creator-only message.
A fourth test covers an instance without Discord keys, where Discord stays unlisted.
All four fail without the change. The three not-offered tests that used Discord as their example now use GroupMe, so that contract stays covered. The suite passes 114/114, and the full v2 and i18n run passes 209 suites (2802 tests before the no-keys test).
Discord backend suites: 18 suites, 166 tests. discordChannelsRateLimit failed once under --maxWorkers=2 and passes alone both on main and here, so it's a timing flake.
Real browser: this branch served locally against prod through a GET-only proxy, signed in as a non-admin member, headless Chromium, at 1440 and 390, light and dark.
The Discord tile lists with Add.
The drawer's provider row reads Discord, Slack, Telegram on one line (390: x=40, 111, 169, with no wrap).
There's no horizontal overflow in any of the four.

机器人 here names a Discord bot, not an agent. The page already uses it for the Telegram bot (enableHint, footnote).
Install state (second commit): the service test adds three refusals. A bare pod_<id> state is refused before any code exchange. An expired state is refused. A proof replayed by another member is refused at the channel list and at bind. Discord and integrations suites: 46 of 46 suites, 441 of 441 tests.
After deploy
Deploy prerequisite: the Discord application's OAuth2 redirects must contain the exact BACKEND_URL + /api/discord/callback. If they don't, Discord rejects the authorize request. The domain-migration runbook already lists https://api.commonly.me/api/discord/callback, and the legacy room link already sends that redirect.
GET /api/discord/install-link/:podId on prod should show redirect_uri=https://api.commonly.me/api/discord/callback. Then walk the install to a bound channel.
…s offers Discord
The bot-add link had no redirect_uri and no response_type=code, so Discord
added the bot and never came back: no callback, no install proof, no
binding. The link is now a code grant whose redirect comes from the same
helper the callback's token exchange uses, and it names only this
instance's client id.
v2 Connectors lists Discord when the instance holds its keys, even though
no builtin Installable row exists for it, and offers it beside Telegram
and Slack in Connect a channel. Its Connect goes to the install link
rather than the Installable lifecycle.
A service test walks install-link, callback, channels on the proof,
POST /api/integrations and GET /binding against a real mongod.

Walkthrough
The change adds a Discord OAuth install link that uses the configured client ID and a normalized callback URI. The frontend exposes available Discord instances in the connector catalog and sends Discord connections through a pod-specific link-install flow.
Changes: Discord connector installation
Layer / File(s)
Summary
OAuth install and binding backend/routes/discord.ts, backend/__tests__/service/discordInstallBind.test.js
The install route uses the configured client ID and shared callback URI. Integration tests cover the OAuth callback, install proof, channel listing, integration creation, and binding lookup.
The catalog includes available Discord despite offered: false. The shared offerability rule also governs provider listing and preserves tests for unoffered GroupMe entries.
The connector hook requests a pod-specific install URL and navigates to it. Tests cover Discord selection, unavailable instances, and the creator-only response. Locales add Discord setup and restriction text.

Merge Risk: Moderate · previous review 6b7b5
The Discord install flow now works end to end. However, the OAuth state is not tied to the user who started the install. A crafted callback link could lead a pod member to link their pod to a Discord server controlled by someone else. Bind and expire the state before merging, or explicitly accept the risk.

The title names the two main changes: the Discord install link now returns to the callback, and Connectors offers Discord. Both match the changeset (backend redirect_uri and response_type fix in routes/discord.ts, and entryOffered/LINK_INSTALL_PROVIDERS in the v2 Connectors frontend). It is a single sentence, but it is long (85 characters) and joins two changes with a comma.

Review at 6b7b5a4 (one subagent review, Opus, two rounds; tier 1: connector UI, one route fix, two zh-CN strings).
Round 1 held on one defect.entryOffered() listed Discord whatever available said, so an instance without the Discord keys would have shown a dim Discord tile behind "+N off". The D215 rule hides an unoffered provider there. The fix gates link-install providers on available === true. A new test ("does not list Discord on an instance without its keys") pins it: drop the gate and the test goes red. Round 2 verified this delta at this head and found nothing else.
Callback chain:
discordRedirectUri() feeds both the authorize link and the token exchange, and the service test asserts both against the literal callback.
state=pod_<id> round-trips.
The install proof is minted only from the guild in the token response, and a guild_id hint that disagrees with it is refused.
Channels and POST /api/integrations both require the proof's pod and guild plus membership.
The service test is 3 of 4 red on main; the green one is the 403 test, as expected. It is 4/4 here.
Security:
No open redirect: redirect_uri comes from BACKEND_URL on the server, and the callback redirects only to FRONTEND_URL.
Dropping ?clientId= is hardening.
Not a regression, follow-up only: state is unsigned, and POST /api/integrations checks membership, not creatorship. So the creator-only rule on the link is a UI gate, and an admin who isn't a member gets a link whose bind 403s.
Other providers:entryOffered changes nothing for any provider except Discord. A legacy Discord row still renders on its own, beside a catalog Add that can connect another pod.
Design:
Browser check of this branch against prod through a GET-only proxy, at 1440 and 390, light and dark.
The drawer's provider row holds three buttons on one line (390: x=40, 111, 169).
No horizontal overflow in any of the four.
No new CSS, and the existing provider-button styles carry the third button.
zh-CN: 把机器人加进你的服务器 and 只有这个 Pod 的创建者才能把 {{connector}} 机器人加进来。 Both pass the voice and terminology checks:
你-register;
Pod in Latin with half-width spaces;
服务器 is Discord's own Chinese term;
机器人 names a Discord bot, not an agent, as enableHint already does for Telegram.
Deploy prerequisite: the Discord app's OAuth2 redirects must contain BACKEND_URL + /api/discord/callback. Check the live link's redirect_uri after deploy, before anyone signs in.
@coderabbitai ignore isn't needed. This fixes a broken flow; it doesn't patch a live vulnerability.

The install link's OAuth state was the bare string pod_<id>. It is now a
short-lived signed token naming the pod and the person who asked for the
link, and the callback refuses anything else before the code exchange.
The install proof the callback hands the success page carries that same
person, and the channel list and the first bind accept it only from them.
The legacy room built its own state client-side; it now asks the server
for the link.

Review at f49ee49. One subagent review on Opus, covering the delta since the PASS at 6b7b5a4. Tier 2 (auth).
What changed:
The install state is now a signed, 15-minute token naming the pod and the user who asked for the link. Before, it was a bare pod_<id>.
The callback refuses any other state before the code exchange.
The install proof carries that user, and both of its consumers accept it only from that user: the channel list (routes/discord.ts) and the first bind (hasDiscordGuildAuthority).
The legacy room fetches the server's link instead of building its own.
Attack path closed:
Each token reader has exactly one call site outside tests, and the callback is the only reader of state.
If an attacker's state is carried to a victim, it yields a proof the victim can't spend. A victim's proof can't be spent by anyone else.
The uid comparison is string to string from the same source (req.user.id, set from the JWT's id).
No token confusion:
The state and the proof require distinct pur values.
Session, attachment, agent-socket and account-deletion verifiers all require claims that neither token carries.
Not single-use, by choice:
The uid binding stops both cross-person directions.
The only gap left is a victim's own live state leaking. A single-use nonce wouldn't close that, because the attacker would spend it first; only a browser-bound nonce would. Even then, the victim still confirms on a page that names the server.
Tests:
The service test covers three refusals: a bare state (no token exchange happens), an expired state, and another member replaying the proof, refused at both channels and bind. Each consumer check goes red when its line is removed.
Discord and integrations suites: 46 of 46 suites, 441 of 441 tests.
No state=pod_ builder is left anywhere in the repo.
Minor, not blocking:
The legacy room's pre-opened tab keeps window.opener to discord.com.
A channel bridge is a pod-level setting, so binding one now takes the same
authority as the install link: the pod's creator or an instance admin.
Authority over the guild alone (a binding the caller made elsewhere) no
longer lets a member bridge a pod they did not create.

Review at c5b69b3. One subagent review on Opus, covering the delta since the PASS at f49ee49. Tier 2 (auth).
What changed: a Discord bind (POST /api/integrations, type discord) now requires the caller to be the target pod's creator or an instance admin. That's the same authority as canManagePod on the install link. It closes one case: a member who had bound the guild to their own pod could use the prior-binding arm to bridge a pod they didn't create.
Placement: the check runs before the guild lookups, the outbound channel check, the row save and the webhook POST. Nothing is written before it.
Typing:createdBy.toString() (an unpopulated ObjectId) is compared with String(req.user.id), the same comparison canManagePod uses.
No other create path:
This route is the only caller-typed new Integration.
The installables projector upserts Telegram and Slack only.
/api/discord has no create route.
PATCH can't re-point a Discord row's server, channel or pod.
Tests:
New: a member with a prior binding elsewhere gets 403, with no row and no webhook.
New: an admin binds a pod they don't own on their own proof and gets 201.
The replay test keeps the proof-uid check exercised through an admin, who gets 404.
Both checks go red when removed.
Suites: 46 of 46, tests 443 of 443.
Minor, not blocking: the 403 text is English-only, like the page's other server refusals, and it names only the creator, not admins.
…ared chat (Team-Commonly#3451)
* fix(connectors): only a pod's creator or an admin can bind it to a shared chat (F143)
Binding a pod to a chat people outside it can read (a Slack channel, a Discord
channel, a Telegram group, a GroupMe group) now needs authority over the pod:
its creator or an instance admin. One rule in chatRelay/bindSurface.ts decides,
and every create, retarget and code redemption path consults it, replacing
Discord's inline check from Team-Commonly#3436. A Telegram private chat stays member-level.
Telegram /tldr and GroupMe !pod no longer send the pod summary into a group
someone without authority bound. The refusal reads in en and zh-CN.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01MDs9DPFVAooJnqCSwrdxVw
* fix(connectors): Discord /commonly-summary takes the same bind rule, and three edges from review (F143)
From Team-Commonly#3451's review round:
- Discord /commonly-summary checks the row's binder against the pod-authority
rule, like Telegram /tldr and GroupMe !pod.
- GroupMe !pod reads the summary from the same stored row it checked.
- POST /api/integrations refuses a non-string type with 400 first, so the rule
never depends on Mongoose's cast.
- A refused Telegram group redemption describes the code, not the person, so it
reads right when the pod's creator redeems a member's code.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01MDs9DPFVAooJnqCSwrdxVw
* fix(connectors): rate-limit the Discord install link, and the retarget check reads a string pod id (F143, CodeQL)
CodeQL on Team-Commonly#3451:
- GET /api/discord/install-link/:podId now reads the pod for the bind rule,
so it takes listIntegrationsRateLimit like the other Discord routes; the
rate-limit guard baseline drops it from the unlimited list.
- PATCH's retarget check passes String(podId) to Pod.findById, as POST does.
podId is already validated as an id string above; this keeps a query object
from ever reaching the rule.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01MDs9DPFVAooJnqCSwrdxVw
* fix(connectors): a refused pod no longer hides the other pods' Discord summaries (F143)
CodeRabbit on Team-Commonly#3451: the multi-pod /commonly-summary reply turned ephemeral
whenever any result failed, so one pod refused by the bind rule hid the
allowed pods' summaries from the channel. A refusal now carries refused: true,
and combinedReplyIsPublic keeps the reply public when every other result
succeeded or was refused. All refused, a real error, and a single-pod refusal
stay ephemeral.
