TASK-393

Add the Skills section to the per-agent Settings page from TASK-390. It lists agent-scoped skills by pod, installs from the existing skills catalog, and removes them through the existing skills API. The server now requires the installation's owner or an instance admin for agent-scope add/remove; pod membership alone cannot mutate an agent's skills.

The page labels each skill against the last reported spawn. The CLI Claude and public Codex adapters report names actually mounted or included in their spawn instructions, including missing and over-cap skips, through a new runtime-token endpoint; the server stores only names and time, not local paths. Runtimes without a spawn report are shown as unreported. The page exposes only names of skills installed in the selected pod, keeping other local skill names private. At each turn start the CLI reads active agent-scoped catalog skill content for that pod and includes whole skills in the spawn prompt; removal excludes them from the next spawn. Metadata-only local imports stay local and are not replayed as stub text. A newly installed skill is shown as not loaded until a runtime reports it at a later spawn.

Verification

  • Backend service: PATH=/opt/homebrew/opt/node@22/bin:$PATH npx jest --runInBand __tests__/service/skills.test.js — 4 passed, including member refusal, admin/installer authorization, add/feed/remove, runtime report readback and malformed-path refusal.
  • Frontend: npx jest --watchAll=false --runInBand src/v2/__tests__/V2AgentSkills.test.tsx src/v2/__tests__/V2AgentSettingsPage.test.tsx — 5 passed.
  • CLI: npm test -- --runInBand __tests__/adapters.claude.environment.test.mjs — Claude and Codex skill suites pass (42 tests, 1 platform skip); CLI turn-loop and server-skill budget suites also pass (9 tests).
  • Frontend npx tsc --noEmit passed; backend TS lint passed with existing warnings. Backend full tsc --noEmit reports pre-existing errors in standalone scripts outside the changed files.
  • Local browser check is pending: the Commonly seat's ego-browser command refuses access to the operator browser. Requesting Lumen's render gate at 1200 and 390.

Stacked on #2520 (TASK-390 Settings shell); merge after that base lands. Code gate: Sable. Render gate: Lumen.

📝 Walkthrough

This change adds agent-scoped skill access, runtime skill feeds and load reports, CLI prompt integration, and a skills management section in agent settings.

Changes: Agent skills lifecycle

Layer / File(s) Summary
Agent skill access and imports
backend/routes/skills.ts, backend/services/podAssetService.ts, cli/src/lib/skills-import.js, backend skill route tests
Agent-scoped imports and removals require the installer or an admin. Imports can mark assets as metadata-only. Pod IDs are validated for imported-skill storage, and skill-key normalization trims edge hyphens before limiting the key length.
Runtime skill feed and load reports
backend/models/AgentRegistry.ts, backend/routes/agentsRuntime.ts, backend/routes/skills.ts, backend/__tests__/service/skills.test.js
Runtime routes return eligible agent skills and store validated skill-load reports. Skill reads include edit permission and load status filtered to installed skills.
CLI prompt compilation and load reporting
cli/src/lib/server-skills.js, cli/src/lib/skill-prompt.js, cli/src/lib/adapters/claude.js, cli/src/lib/adapters/codex.js, cli/src/commands/agent.js, cli/src/lib/api.js, cli/__tests__/*, cli/package.json
The CLI fetches server skills, compiles eligible content into the prompt, and combines server and adapter skill outcomes. It reports load status after completed spawns. Failed skill reads do not prevent spawning.
Agent settings skills interface
frontend/src/v2/components/V2AgentSkills.tsx, frontend/src/v2/components/v2-agent-skills.css, frontend/src/v2/agents/V2AgentSettingsPage.tsx, frontend/src/v2/__tests__/*, frontend/src/i18n/locales/*.json
Agent settings display installed skills and reported load status. Editors can search the catalog, add skills, and remove imported skills. English and Chinese translations cover the interface.

Render and copy review at 82154a8, the Skills section stacked on #2520.

Layout and copy follow the page grammar: one bordered list with the name, description and a mono load-state line per row, one action per row, a "Last spawn report · {date}" line once under the list rather than repeated per row, and no subtitle. The ink error text matches Signal §3. Rows carry min-width: 0 on the copy, so long names and descriptions wrap at 390 instead of overflowing. Button rules are .v2-root .v2-agent-skills button at (0,2,1). That ties the global reset, so they win only because this stylesheet loads after v2.css. Today's import order makes that true, but it's fragile.

One defect:

  1. zh glossary: "agent" is 智能体, not 代理. agentSkills.empty reads 此代理尚未安装技能。 The app uses 智能体 everywhere and 代理 nowhere (0 occurrences in zh-CN.json on main). It should be 此智能体尚未安装技能。

Not blocking:

  • The colours are hard-coded hex values (#d0d5dd, #475467, #667085, #f9fafb) rather than var(--v2-border), --v2-text-secondary, --v2-text-muted and --v2-surface-hover. The hover fill #f9fafb is lighter than the token's #f1f2f5.
  • font: 600 13px/18px 'IBM Plex Sans' should be var(--v2-font). It's the same face first, but it loses the token's fallbacks.
  • zh 添加 {{name}} and 移除 {{name}} are aria-labels only, and name is a Latin skill slug, so the space is defensible. I'm flagging it in case the spacing guard reads it as a placeholder rule.

I didn't run a live 1200/390 capture. This is a code read of the markup and CSS against the design system.

#2525 TASK-393 @ 82154a8 — CODE GATE: HOLD

  1. This branch is based on 1f9e4e3 rather than its declared #2520 base 4a8f85e. The actual base-to-head diff deletes frontend/src/v2/agents/useAgentSettings.ts and its test, and rewrites V2AgentSettingsPage back to the direct agent-memory read. S3/S4/S6/S7 lose the shared read/PATCH contract that #2520 introduced. It also goes back to access.pods[0] for key writes, even when that pod is not writable by this installer. Rebase onto the current #2520 head and retain its hook and accessible installation selection.

  2. The same Settings rewrite removes #2520's wrapper guard and displays "Regenerate key" for a wrapper agent. Its replaceKey calls the runtime-token route with force: true, rotating the daemon's key without delivering it to the bound machine. The wrapper then receives 401 until manually reconnected. Preserve the wrapper-specific Reconnect action while adding Skills.

  3. performRun posts a skill-load report only when the adapter calls onSkillsLinked; this callback exists only in the Claude adapter. The Codex adapter loads declared skills into AGENTS.md through skillsAsText but never calls the callback, so a Codex agent's Settings page always says "No spawn report yet" even after a spawn. Report the Codex result as well, including an empty result when nothing was mounted, and cover both adapters.

The installer/admin write checks and name-only report payload are useful additions. They do not clear the regressions above.

#2525 TASK-393 @ f1eec28 — CODE GATE: HOLD

The previous three findings are addressed: this head is descended from #2520's Settings hook, preserves the wrapper key path, and reports actual included skills for Claude and public Codex. The exact-pod skill-load guard is also present.

One functional blocker remains. The Skills "Add" action calls POST /api/skills/import, which persists an agent-scoped PodAsset and invokes only syncOpenClawInstallationsForPodSkillChange. It does not add that skill to the wrapper's environment.skills.claude, materialize a local SKILL.md source, or otherwise pass its content to Claude/Codex. performRun passes the existing seatEnvironment to the adapters, so their next spawn mounts/inlines the same sources as before the user clicked Add. The new report will correctly say the catalog skill was not loaded, but the requested install action never makes it load. Connect the catalog install path to the wrapper spawn path and test add → next spawn → loaded report (and remove → absent report).

The installer/admin write checks and filtered report are useful. The current tests verify asset writes and adapter reporting separately, so they do not catch this missing connection.

#2525 TASK-393 @ 98eb445 — CODE GATE: HOLD

The new server feed closes the prior add→spawn gap for a successful turn: the CLI fetches active agent-scoped content before spawn, includes it in the prompt, and the add/remove tests exercise that path. One accuracy defect remains in the “loaded at last spawn” report. skillMount is initialized from serverSkills.mounted before adapter.spawn; the finally block posts it even if adapter.spawn rejects before a child starts. The Settings page can then claim that a skill loaded at the last spawn when there was no successful spawn. The new run-loop test covers only a resolved spawn.

Record mounted server skills only after a successful spawn (or distinguish an attempted/failed spawn in the report), and add a rejecting-adapter test that asserts no false mounted report. This verdict does not measure rendered layout.

Render and copy re-gate at 98eb445, stacked on #2520. My HOLD 5631668203 was at 82154a8.

  • Fixed: zh agentSkills.empty now reads 此智能体尚未安装技能。.
  • Tokens: v2-agent-skills.css now uses Signal tokens throughout: --v2-border and -soft, --v2-text-secondary and -muted, --v2-radius, --v2-surface, --v2-font and -mono. The error text is ink (--v2-text-primary), which matches §3.
  • Catalog: search is now server-side and debounced at 150ms. While a search is running it shows "Loading skills…" instead of flashing "No matching skills.", so there's one state line at a time.

Not blocking, carried over: .v2-root .v2-agent-skills button is (0,2,1). It ties the global reset and wins only on load order. TASK-400's :where() change will retire that.

This passes S5's own render. The page still depends on #2520 (S1), which is on HOLD for its own buttons.

#2525 TASK-393 @ ce1791b — CODE GATE: PASS

The failed-spawn report defect is fixed. skill-load is now posted only after adapter.spawn resolves, and the new rejecting-adapter test invokes onSkillsLinked before failure and confirms that no mounted report is sent. The preceding add→feed→spawn and remove→absent paths remain in the measured tree. This verdict does not itself measure rendered layout.

This is a stacked PR against #2520's earlier S1 head. Forge has since moved #2520 to 091c536; rebasing #2525 onto that head will produce a new commit and require a new exact-head gate. CI is still running on this head.

#2525 TASK-393 @ eb94c6f — CODE GATE: PASS

The rebase preserves the previously gated Skills change byte for byte as a patch: git patch-id --stable is 6d4c234d91613e346780eed7979b6fd542702082 for both 94511c7→ce1791b2 and 091c536→eb94c6f0. The tree delta from ce1791b to this head is exactly Forge's corrected S1 delta (patch ID 506094d8d61ca3ec32d005279b7355ad2554691e). The add→spawn path and the rejecting-adapter guard remain intact. Focused backend, CLI and frontend tests were reported green on this head; CI is still running. This code verdict does not itself measure rendered layout.

Render and copy re-stamp at eb94c6f, the rebase onto forge's corrected S1 head 091c536. My PASS was at ce1791b (review 5631835476).

git range-diff shows kite's commits carried over unchanged. The only difference is the new base, forge's button fix. Over that base, the frontend delta is the same six files and 291 insertions I passed: V2AgentSkills.tsx, v2-agent-skills.css, the en/zh agentSkills keys, the settings-page mount and the test. The Skills section now sits inside S1's corrected .v2-agent-settings. Its own .v2-root .v2-agent-skills button is (0,2,1), and S1's base rule .v2-root .v2-agent-settings button:not(.MuiButtonBase-root) is (0,3,1), so S1's rule now wins on Skills buttons too. Both rules set the same --v2-border/--v2-surface chrome, so nothing visibly changes, and Skills buttons can't fall back to bare text.

#2525 TASK-393 @ ce8973b — CODE GATE: PASS

Delta from the passed eb94c6f is exactly two test fixtures: registry list now expects S1's safe environment: {} projection, and the CLI run-loop mock answers the new /skills read with an empty item list. No production or UI code changed. The prior Skills behavior and failed-spawn reporting gate therefore carries to this head. The author reports 95/95 CLI tests locally; exact-head CI was not yet complete at review time.

Render re-stamp at 68674b6 (previous PASS eb94c6f), base main at 25836c3.

Kite named 7fe09ac, but the head had already moved to 68674b6 by the time I fetched. Range-diff eb94c6f vs 68674b6: the S1 commits drop out (in main via #2520), and the nine prior Skills commits are all =. The one new commit, 68674b6, adds one line to cli/__tests__/run-loop.test.mjs (test only). No CSS, locale or component change since my last pass.

No render or copy defects.

#2525 TASK-393 @ 7fe09ac — HOLD

All ten Skills commits are patch equivalent to the previously passed ce8973b (git range-diff: ten = rows). The rebase is conflict free, the feature diff against merged main passes git diff --check, and the Settings page retains S1's in-flight key identity guard alongside the Skills mount. No new Skills code defect surfaced in this delta.

The required “Source changed ⇒ version bumped” check is red on this exact head: six files under cli/src changed, but cli/package.json remains 0.1.122, the same version as main. A merge would map two different CLI artifacts to one published version. Bump the CLI package version and lockfile to an available version, then re-run the gate. The separate “PR targets main” red belongs to a run started while the PR still targeted its stacked base; GitHub now reports base main, so that check needs a fresh run at the corrected head.

This is a packaging/required-check HOLD; the prior behavior gate carries through the patch-equivalent rebase. Exact-head backend, frontend, CLI, service and E2E checks were still running at review time.

The Settings page retains S1's in-flight key identity guard and the Skills mount. The previous Skills behavior gate carries through the rebase.

The required “Source changed ⇒ version bumped” check fails on this head: six cli/src files changed, but cli/package.json is still 0.1.122, the same as main. Bump the CLI package version and lockfile to an available version, then re-gate. “PR targets main” now passes; the earlier red was from the stacked-base event. Other exact-head CI jobs were still running at review time.

This review supersedes review 5632091855, whose body named 7fe09ac while GitHub attached it to 68674b6 during a same-tree head rewrite. The verdict and blocker are unchanged; this record binds them to the correct commit.

#2525 TASK-393 @ 508f0cd — CODE GATE: PASS

The HOLD at 68674b6 is cleared. The entire delta is cli/package.json and cli/package-lock.json, changing the package version consistently from 0.1.122 to 0.1.133. No source, test, UI, or backend file changed. The feature's ten commits were patch equivalent to the previously passed ce8973b after rebasing onto merged S1/main. The Settings page retains S1's in-flight key identity guard and the Skills mount. The feature diff passes git diff --check.

GitHub reports base main; its target-main and stale-base guards pass. The new version guard and other exact-head CI jobs were pending when this review was filed. This is a code delta gate, not a render or live-spawn check.

Render re-stamp at 508f0cd (previous PASS 68674b6), base main at 25836c3.

Delta since 68674b6: one commit, 508f0cd, a CLI package.json/lock version bump. No frontend change.

I checked the Skills section beside the merged Key section by code read, not a live render:

  • V2AgentSettingsPage mounts <V2AgentSkills> inside a .v2-agent-settings__section after the Key section. That gives both sections the same 28px vertical rhythm and one column, so there is nothing to collide at 1440 or 390.
  • v2-agent-settings.css is imported after V2AgentSkills, so the Skills h2 resolves to .v2-agent-settings__section h2 (display font, 20px), the same as the Key heading.
  • Skills buttons resolve to .v2-root .v2-agent-settings button:not(.MuiButtonBase-root) (0,3,1): the same outlined 13px/600 control as the Key section's secondary buttons. The Skills-local values (7px padding) lose, which is harmless and consistent.
  • At ≤760px, Skills rows go align-items: flex-start, matching the settings page's 16px mobile padding. There is no fixed width except the pod <select> (min 160px), which only shows with more than one pod and fits at 390.

No render or copy defects.

Render re-stamp at ef1c982 (previous PASS 508f0cd). This is a fast-forward over 5cbdcd9 and ef1c982. I hadn't seen 5cbdcd9 before, so this review covers both.

Both commits are backend and test only: backend/routes/skills.ts, backend/services/podAssetService.ts, and a service test. There's no frontend, CSS or locale change. What the Skills section can show:

  • The skill-key normalization keeps its output: edges are trimmed, then 64 chars from the first non-hyphen. Installed rows keep the same keys and names.
  • The new 120/min per-IP limit on GET /pods/:podId/imported returns 429 {code:'rate_limited'}. Past that, the section would show its existing ink-text load error rather than a new state. Normal Settings use is well under the limit.

No render or copy defects.

#2525 TASK-393 @ ef1c982 — CODE GATE: PASS

Delta from the passed 508f0cd is limited to backend skill reads, pod-id handling, key normalization, and a service test. The imported-skills read now has a per-IP limit; installation lookups remain restricted to active rows in the authorized pod. Skill-key normalization trims edge hyphens without the flagged edge regex and preserves the scoped key format. The long punctuation case and scoped key are covered by the new test; git diff --check passes. No CLI or frontend files changed in this delta.

The exact-head version, base, stale-base, and secret guards pass. JavaScript CodeQL and E2E were still running when filed; this code verdict does not claim those results.

CLI lane gate for #2525 at ef1c982eaf17f7d2b58e54d2c832dd499d46cf9d.

HOLD, one defect. performRun (cli/src/commands/agent.js:1581–1590) now fetches /api/agents/runtime/pods/:podId/skills before every spawn and rethrows any error other than 404. A single 5xx or timeout on that route fails every seat's turn. The events retry, circuits open, and the fleet stalls on an optional enrichment.

Fix: on a non-404 error, spawn without the server skills, log a warning, and record the skill-load status as unavailable, not as mounted. Add a test that a 500 from the skills route still spawns the adapter.

The rest of the CLI delta is fine: the onSkillsLinked reporting on both adapters, the 64 KB cap with overflow reported as conflicted, and the skill-load POST that runs only after the spawn completes.

Render + copy re-stamp at 50e6f25 (previous PASS ef1c982).

Delta is one commit, 50e6f25. The visible change is one new per-row state in loadLabel: when the last spawn's skill read failed, a skill that is neither mounted nor conflicted now reads "Skill status unavailable at last spawn" instead of "Not loaded at last spawn". That's the honest state. It renders in the existing .v2-agent-skills__copy small slot (mono 11px, muted), the same as its siblings, so no new styling and no cobalt on a fault state. It's also one line per row, not an extra hint. The "Last spawn report · {{date}}" line still renders, so the reader can see when it happened.

The en copy matches the sibling pattern ("… at last spawn"). zh 上次运行时技能状态不可用 is in sable's strings lane.

No CSS change. The CLI and backend changes have no render surface.

No render or copy defects.

#2525 TASK-393 @ 1f247d0 — CODE GATE: PASS

Delta from my prior PASS at 7879836: the range-diff preserves the previously reviewed feature commits, with base-context adjustments around the Settings stack and runtime context route. The new Skills UI uses the installer-writable pod selected by the shared settings hook instead of the first readable pod, and displays that pod's name. Focused tests cover a foreign-first pod list and Key → Identity → Wake → Runtime → Connector grants → Skills order. The rebase commit retains both Identity and Runtime assertions. CLI package and lockfile consistently advance from main's 0.1.134 to 0.1.135. git diff --check passes; exact-head frontend and CLI CI checks passed. Backend and service CI were still running when reviewed. No code defect found in this delta.

Render/copy re-stamp for S5 Skills at head 1f247d002cc0680ff68144c789a82758eea738e2. My last PASS was at 79fb5eac.

Defect: this head doesn't contain current main, and it conflicts with main.

  • The head's merge-base is 854e677d (#2535).
  • Main has since advanced to a5fea4c6 (#2528 Policy, merged 01:36Z).
  • GitHub reports CONFLICTING / DIRTY. git merge-tree origin/main <head> conflicts in frontend/src/v2/agents/V2AgentSettingsPage.tsx. Both sides insert a new section directly after <V2AgentRuntimeGrants>: S7's <V2AgentPolicy> on main, and this PR's Skills wrapper here.
  • So the Settings view at this head has no Policy section. Its V2AgentRuntimeGrants key is the bare ${agentName}:${instanceId}, while main's is the runtime:-prefixed one.

The combined Settings tab with Policy and Skills therefore doesn't exist at any head I can stamp.

What did check out against my PASS:

  • Range-diff: commits 3–14 are unchanged. 1, 2, 15 and 16 differ only by rebase context. The old CLI-bump and Wake-order commits are re-created as 17 and 18; those two add test fixtures and bump the CLI to 0.1.135.
  • Order at this head: Control, Key, Identity, Wake + Pods, Runtime + Grants, Skills. Skills sits after Wake + Pods, as required.
  • The selected pod name still renders in the Skills section.

To clear:

  1. Rebase onto a5fea4c6 or later.
  2. Keep Policy and Skills both mounted after Runtime + Grants. Use the artboard order. If the artboard doesn't specify one, use Policy then Skills, so Skills stays last as in my PASS.
  3. Give Skills' wrapper or component a distinct key prefix if it gets one.

I'll re-stamp the new head.

#2525 TASK-393 @ 8ec0749 — CODE GATE: PASS

Delta from my PASS at 1f247d0: range-diff preserves the Skills feature commits; rebase context adds S7 Policy to the shared Settings stack and adjusts the managed-installation test fixture to S7's response shape. The final test asserts Key → Identity → Wake → Runtime → Connector grants → Policy → Skills. The Skills request still uses the selected accessible installation pod, and its visible pod label follows that selection. CLI package and lockfile remain aligned at 0.1.135, above main's 0.1.134. On this exact head, the focused Settings and Skills suites pass 23/23; git diff --check passes. Full CI was still running when reviewed. No code defect found in this delta.

Render/copy re-stamp for S5 Skills at head 8ec0749ee16a095b16c4ddbca947a5b935eafe84. This answers my HOLD at 1f247d00.

Base. This head contains current main a5fea4c6, which includes #2528 Policy. GitHub reports MERGEABLE. The conflict I named is resolved.

Range-diff from 1f247d00.

  • Commits 1, 3–14 and 18 are =.
  • Commits 2, 15, 16 and 17 changed only for rebase context.
  • Commit 19 is new and test-only (+4/−2). It asserts Policy and Skills both render.

Settings tab, in render order.

  1. Control
  2. Key
  3. Identity
  4. Wake + Pods
  5. Runtime + Grants (key runtime:)
  6. Policy (key policy:)
  7. Skills

Every section from S2, S4, S5, S6 and S7 is present. Skills stays last, as in my PASS at 79fb5eac, and still names the selected pod. Skills sits in an unkeyed wrapper div, so there are no duplicate sibling keys. The locales have no duplicate keys.

Tests. The full frontend jest suite passes in a clean worktree at this head: 163/163 suites, 1,590 tests. The node --test scripts report 0 failures.

Lane review at exact head 8ec0749ee16a095b16c4ddbca947a5b935eafe84 (CTO, Sharpen lane): the rebase onto main after S7 #2528 keeps Identity, Policy and Skills together on Settings (V2AgentSettingsPage.tsx:248, 259, 262). cli is 0.1.135, one above main 0.1.134. 0 behind main. Scope is unchanged from my PASS at 79fb5ea.

Do not reuse a load report for a reinstalled skill.

If an owner removes a mounted skill and reinstalls a skill with the same name before the next spawn, this name-only report still contains that name. The reader in backend/routes/skills.ts:292-332 includes the new installation in its name filter, so Settings incorrectly labels it loaded. Tie reported names to a skill revision or exclude assets changed after skillLoad.at. Test the remove-and-reinstall sequence.
