🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Enforce the character budget in compact output.
When results span more than eight files, detailed output uses a 2,500-character budget. Compact output can still emit 20 matching lines of up to 180 characters each, plus file paths. The fallback can therefore exceed the budget it is meant to satisfy. Limit compact lines and report the omitted count. Preserve the cursor for the next search page.

The // spellchecker:disable-line comment sits on Line 1563, but the Nedle literal is on Line 1562. The typos check therefore flags Line 1562 and the Spelling job fails. Move the directive onto the line that contains the literal.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
The literal retry drops exclusions. Fix it.
The retry query contains only Constraint::Glob(scope). It discards every Exclude/Not constraint from original. A non-definition query such as !vendor/ !important with path set runs the scoped literal retry. That retry then returns matches from vendor/, which the user excluded. The PR claims to "preserve exclusions", and this path breaks that claim. Keep the exclusion constraints in the retry query.
Fix
- constraints: std::iter::once(Constraint::Glob(scope)).collect(),
+ constraints: original
+ .constraints
+ .iter()
+ .filter(|c| matches!(c, Constraint::Exclude(_) | Constraint::Not(_)))
+ .cloned()
+ .chain(std::iter::once(Constraint::Glob(scope)))
+ .collect(),One problem remains. fuzzy_query is query.trim(), which is the whole raw query, so the excluded tokens are still in the search text. A query like !vendor/ !important would then search for the literal string !vendor/ !important. Retrying with only the text left after the exclusion tokens are removed would be more correct.

Indexed paths are matched literally from the root, so bracketed route directories and nested src folders resolve to the requested path. Symlinked absolute roots are accepted, a path that matches nothing is reported, and constraint-like queries retry as literal text inside the path.
