Windows often has problems locating the executable python.exe file.
running:
python setup.py
in the command prompt should install ECCpy. However if windows can't locate python.exe, you will receive the following error::
'python' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
SOLUTIONS:
- manually add the location of python.exe to the windows environmental variables (see instructions below).
- in the command prompt, always use full path to the python.exe file. For example, run
"C:\Anaconda3\python.exe" setup.pyinstead ofpython setup.py,
MANUALLY ADDING THE LOCATION OF PYTHON.EXE TO WINDOWS ENVIRONMENTAL VARIABLES
- First copy the folder containing the the relevant exe files
- for anaconda python, this is currently C:\Users\YourName\Anaconda3
- if not, search for python.exe in your computer, right-click and "open folder location". Copy the folder address into a text file.
- add folder to list of environmental variables (My Computer ‣ Properties ‣ Advanced ‣ Environment Variables)
- follow the instructions online at geekswithblogs.net, aaronstannard, or elsewhere.
- TIP: If your folder names have spaces, you should put the path in quotation marks. Do NOT put any spaces between paths.
- TIP: if it still doesn't work after adding to USER Path, try the SYSTEM path (requires admin privileges)
- EXAMPLES:
"C:\Program Files\NCBI\blast-2.2.28+\bin";"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin";C:\Anaconda3; - further instructions are available from the python 3 documentation
