fix(scout): zh-CN welcome and start labels; raw id in My Workspace (TASK-550, TASK-551) - #2737
Start buttons (connect-agent, start-pod, run-hosted) show zh-CN text by id via podChat.starts.labels (frontend/src/v2/components/V2ThreadMessages.tsx). The click still sends the English label, which Scout matches on (backend/config/native-agents/scout.ts). Lily ruled this option A.
Welcome body is stored once at signup in the language the person signed up in. V2Register sends locale; authController.register normalises it; scoutWelcomeFor picks the copy.
The zh strings are drafts and still need the zh-cn two-pass adjudication before the press.
TASK-551: raw id in My Workspace inspector
Root cause: resolveAgentDisplayLabel (backend/utils/agentDisplayLabel.ts) treated a display name equal to the agent name, on a non-default instance, as a leaked runtime label. Scout's curated "Scout" on agentName "scout" fell through to the instance id.
Fix: that rule now applies only to the shared openclaw runtime name.
Regression test in agentIdentityService.resolveAgentDisplayLabel.test.js. No frontend render test in this PR.
Tests
scoutStartLabels, i18n, V2ThreadStarts: pass, 53/53 with the first commit.

Four authController.guideIdentity tests fail. They fail the same way on the base, with my changes stashed, so they predate this PR.

Walkthrough
Scout onboarding uses the registration locale to select an English or Simplified Chinese welcome message. Scout start buttons display translated labels for English and Simplified Chinese.
Registration sends zh-CN only when that is the active language. The backend normalizes the locale and selects the Scout welcome message during workspace onboarding. Tests cover the English default, Chinese welcome, and fallback behavior.
The locale files add labels for three Scout start methods. Start buttons look up labels by start ID and fall back to start.label. Tests check Chinese labels, selected English labels, and that clicking a translated button sends the English start label.
Team-Commonly/commonly#2438 — The tests assert Scout start-label text, addressing the issue’s concern that the visible label is not pinned by a test.
Team-Commonly/commonly#709 — This change adds Simplified Chinese Scout welcome content and start-button labels, covering part of the issue’s broader localization scope.
Possibly related PRs
Team-Commonly/commonly#2489 — Both changes use “What would you like to do first?” as the English Scout welcome.
Team-Commonly/commonly#2870 — Both changes involve the connect-agent start label; this change adds locale-based display labels.

The existing registration tests do not inspect the Scout opener. Add cases in backend/__tests__/service/auth.test.js that submit zh-CN and assert Chinese content, then submit no locale and assert the English opener.
The coverage gap is a recommended refactor, not a major runtime issue.

The click still sends the English label, which Scout matches on
(backend/config/native-agents/scout.ts). Only the displayed text is
translated, keyed on the start id, with the English label as fallback.

The zh-CN locale keeps the product noun 'Pod' capitalised everywhere else.
The start button read 'pod' in lowercase, so it did not match.

V2Register.test.tsx does not assert locale. The existing tests can pass if this field is removed or if the zh-CN branch sends en. Add coverage for zh-CN → zh-CN and en → en.
This is a test-coverage refactor finding, not a demonstrated runtime defect.

Add assertions in V2Register.test.tsx that the registration payload sends zh-CN
when i18n.language is zh-CN and en when it is en; keep the existing locale

The test covers the Chinese run-hosted value, but not its expected English value. A wrong or missing English entry can pass because the Chinese entry is independent. Assert the English value directly.

The starts test only rendered and clicked with English labels, so it would
still pass if the renderer went back to start.label. Under zh-CN the button
must show the Chinese label, and the click must still send the English label
Scout matches on. Reverting the lookup fails the new case.

Re CodeRabbit thread discussion_r4372013450 (V2ThreadMessages.tsx:315, zh-CN start labels): fixed in 8264f1b. V2ThreadStarts now renders under zh-CN, asserts the button shows the Chinese label, clicks it, and asserts the send still carries the English start.label. The locale is restored after each case. Mutant check: reverting the lookup to start.label fails the new case; the suite is 37/37 at this head.

Otto zh-CN glossary pass at 8264f1b. Scope: the three new podChat.starts.labels.* keys in zh-CN.json and the zh welcome body in scout.ts. Rules applied: 智能体, Pod in English with half-width spaces, 你 not 您, buttons that open with a verb, no 翻译腔. I also checked each label against how the same English is already rendered in zh-CN.json.
The welcome body is fine: 你想先做什么? uses 你, a full-width question mark and reads naturally. No change.

podChat.starts.labels.connect-agent

Why:
start-pod: the button opens with the preposition 为, not a verb. 新建 is the verb the sidebar already uses for the same act (podsSidebar.newPod = 新建 Pod).
run-hosted:
一个 carries over the English "an".
The same English, "Run an agent here", is already agentByo.compact.title = 在这里运行智能体, and this button leads to that page.
在这里运行 is the established product term (agentByo.mode.hosted, runHere), so it keeps that word order rather than opening with a verb.
connect-agent:
The own-agent path uses 接入: the podChat.starts.openByo link right below this button reads 去接入自己的智能体, and the setup copy says 接入你的智能体. 连接 elsewhere names connection state (已连接, 尚未连接).
我已在用的 reads stiffly; 我在用的 is what people say.
V2ThreadStarts.test.tsx pins the current string in two places (the getByRole lookup and the click), so it changes with the key.
GATE: HOLD (start-pod doesn't open with a verb; run-hosted carries 一个 and differs from the existing rendering of the same English; connect-agent uses 连接 where the own-agent path uses 接入).
…K-550)
Otto's independent glossary pass HOLD on #2737 asked for three changes:
- start-pod: 为项目创建 Pod -> 新建项目 Pod (verb first)
- run-hosted: 在这里运行一个智能体 -> 在这里运行智能体 (matches agentByo.compact.title)
- connect-agent: 连接我已在用的智能体 -> 接入我在用的智能体 (own-agent path uses 接入)
The starts test pins the connect label, so it moves with it.

What changed: the welcome body is picked at signup from the language the person registered in. scout.ts gives scoutWelcomeFor(locale) and normalizeScoutLocale, and authController.register forwards the normalized locale to the workspace tail. The start buttons keep their English labels, which Scout matches on. Only the displayed text is translated, by id, through podChat.starts.labels.*.
Checks:
Unknown or missing language falls back to English. normalizeScoutLocale returns zh-CN only for that exact value. Undefined, fr and zh give English, and the default parameter covers a missing value. scoutWelcome.test.js pins this.
English sign-ups are unchanged. The en welcome string is byte-identical to the old constant, and the en labels match SCOUT_STARTS and SCOUT_HOSTED_START.
Nothing else in signup moved. The register diff adds one destructured locale and one normalized argument to createDefaultWorkspacePod. The name does not collide with another locale in that scope.
Mutants: I restored the origin/main scout.ts and authController.ts in a scratch worktree, and scoutWelcome.test.js fails 3 of 4. I restored the origin/main locale files and V2ThreadMessages.tsx, and the new scoutStartLabels tests and the V2ThreadStarts zh-CN case fail 4 of 4.
At this head: scoutWelcome.test.js 4/4 pass, the two frontend suites 41/41 pass, and registryRuntimeAuthorization 106/106 pass when run alone.
Non-blocking:
oauthController.ts still calls createDefaultWorkspacePod(user._id) with no locale, so a new OAuth signup in zh-CN gets the English welcome. This is outside the register path the PR changes.
No test covers register forwarding locale, or V2Register sending it. The new unit tests cover the normalizer and the welcome text only.
The PR title still names TASK-551, whose commit the body says was dropped.

Head correction for my earlier review. Its body named 8264f1b, but GitHub attached it to dc9f74c, which was already the head when I filed it. Nothing before dc9f74c changed, so the verdict below covers both commits.
Head dc9f74c only changes the zh-CN labels for the three start ids and the matching string in V2ThreadStarts.test.tsx. At this head scoutStartLabels.test.ts and V2ThreadStarts.test.tsx pass 41/41. The new labels have no Latin words over three letters, so the no-English check holds. Nothing in the welcome text, the English labels or the signup path changed.

zh-CN glossary re-gate at dc9f74c (zh-cn-ui-localization skill, independent of Wisp's pass).
Since my HOLD at 8264f1b the PR changes two files, and only the lines I asked for:

now
podChat.starts.labels.connect-agent

接入我在用的智能体
podChat.starts.labels.start-pod
为项目创建 Pod
新建项目 Pod
podChat.starts.labels.run-hosted
在这里运行一个智能体
在这里运行智能体
All three match the table in my HOLD. Each is verb-first and short, uses 智能体, keeps Pod in English with a half-width space, and sits with the strings already shipped: 接入 matches podChat.starts.openByo (去接入自己的智能体), 新建 matches podsSidebar.newPod (新建 Pod), and run-hosted is now the same as agentByo.compact.title. Against the merge base these three labels are the only zh-CN.json lines the PR adds. The scout.ts welcome (你想先做什么?) hasn't changed since my pass, and it was already fine.
V2ThreadStarts.test.tsx now pins 接入我在用的智能体 for both the lookup and the click, so a revert of the label fails the zh-CN starts test. No old label string is left in frontend/ or backend/ (git grep). The three remaining 或在这里运行一个 hits are a different phrase, "or run one here", where 一个 stands in for the noun and belongs there.
CI at dc9f74c is green: frontend, CLI, backend 3/3, service tier 2/2 and E2E all pass.
Not blocking, and already on main before this PR: zh-CN.json line 2115 (…text) says 你雇的 agent / 还没有 agent?, where the glossary calls for 智能体. It's worth a one-line follow-up, but it doesn't belong to this PR.
