feat(ui): render bounded OpenUI cards from the Signal catalogue (TASK-498) - #2803
TASK-498: V2UICard renders kind: 'ui' cards with @openuidev/react-lang used headless (no react-ui), from a fixed Commonly catalogue in v2 tokens.
No tools map. @OpenUrl links pass through an https allowlist (commonly.me, docs.commonly.me, github.com).
On a parse failure the card shows a fallback, not the raw payload.
Catalogue is the fixed Signal catalogue (uiCardCatalogue.json).
This replaces #2689 under Lily's ruling on decision 6adefe0d58eabb3645b06b40 (2026-10-26 09:46Z): push the squashed commit as a new branch and open a new PR. The old PR stays open until Lily closes it. Its base is tern/task-497-ui-payload, and it carries 25 commits. This PR is one squashed commit, 63fc37190, based on 647929e47.
Unit tests for the card renderer and the allowlist
scripts/check-ui-card-production.mjs passes
Known follow-up, non-blocking (security gate PASS at 63fc371): frontend/Dockerfile.dev runs npm ci without OPENUI_TELEMETRY_DISABLED=1, so the dev image still sends the lang-core postinstall telemetry. The prod frontend/Dockerfile sets it.
Browser-layout check at 390 and 1440 (catalogue screenshots under docs/audits/task-498/)
…-498)
Squash of polish/task-498-ui-cards onto main. Parent PRs #2675 and #2686
are already on main, so this carries only the card renderer, the
catalogue tuple checks, the production proof script and its audit.

The pull request adds catalogue-backed UI cards to V2 messages. It defines source validation and reusable card views, integrates lazy rendering with fallback and expiry handling, and adds preview, synchronization, and production-mode checks.
Adds the card schema and revision, source and URL validation, and a script that checks or synchronizes the frontend catalogue with the server catalogue. Tests cover catalogue consistency, parser constraints, and the post-message payload description.
Adds catalogue-driven rendering, shared card components, task and trace views, and responsive styles. V2GigCard uses shared views; tests cover view behavior and layout invariants.
Message rendering and fallbacks frontend/src/v2/hooks/useV2PodDetail.ts, frontend/src/v2/components/V2MessageRow.tsx, frontend/src/v2/cards/V2UICard.tsx, frontend/src/v2/cards/CardRenderBoundary.tsx, frontend/src/v2/cards/__tests__/*, frontend/src/v2/__tests__/V2MessageRow.test.tsx
Adds UI-card payload metadata and lazy rendering in V2 messages. Cards validate catalogue metadata and source, show fallback content for unsupported or failed rendering, and show expiry information and a trace link after 30 days.
Preview and production checks frontend/design-system/preview/ui-card.*, scripts/check-ui-card-production.mjs, docs/audits/task-498/*, .github/workflows/playwright.yml, .github/workflows/tests.yml, frontend/Dockerfile
Adds a card preview and local production-mode checks at desktop and mobile widths, with screenshots and JSON evidence. Frontend installation and build steps set OPENUI_TELEMETRY_DISABLED=1.

UI-card verification can miss a stale catalogue revision, a layout regression, or a failed asset. These checks should be strengthened, but no production rendering failure is established.

Tighten the tuple assertion. The catalogRev check always passes.
expect(description).toContain(String(value)) runs for each revision value. For catalogRev, String(1) is '1'. The description already contains v:1 and catalogRev:1, so the check passes whatever the revision is. This applies to the next revision bump too. The value 2 appears inside the hash digits.
A test that still passes with the fix reverted is not a test. Assert the labelled tuple instead.
Proposed fix
- for (const value of Object.values(revision)) expect(description).toContain(String(value));+ expect(description).toContain(`catalogId:"${revision.catalogId}"`);+ expect(description).toContain(`catalogRev:${revision.catalogRev}`);+ expect(description).toContain(`catalogHash:"${revision.catalogHash}"`);
As per path instructions: "A test that would still pass with the fix reverted is not a test (rule 1)."

Replace the unlabelled value checks in the revision assertion with separate
checks for the labelled tuple fields: catalogId, catalogRev, and catalogHash.
Anchor the assertions to the corresponding properties of revision so incidental
matches elsewhere in description cannot make the test pass.

Make the structural scan fail closed and calibrate its target pattern.
The scan can pass without reading any JavaScript. It also cannot use Symbol.for('openui.devtools.autoMount') as the positive control because that string is not one of the patterns tested by the absence assertion. That control would not detect a production transformation that changes cdn.jsdelivr.net or data-openui-devtools-auto-mount.
Assert that at least one JavaScript asset exists. Then run the same target pattern against a known emitted positive control, or scan an unminified build that contains one of the target markers.

Record failed asset fetches.
The Playwright page records request URLs and JavaScript errors, but not response status or network failures. A non-document asset can fail while the card, layout, and current URL assertions pass.

Extend the Playwright checks around `page` to record non-document responses with
failing status codes and non-document `requestfailed` events, then assert that
the collected failures are empty. Preserve the existing request URL and
JavaScript error checks.
The new test asserts none of these. jsdom has no layout engine, so removing one of these rules would not fail this test. The path rule for frontend/src/v2/** requires a presence test for load-bearing overflow and flex-sizing CSS in v2-layout-invariants.test.ts.

Add presence assertions to the “OpenUI cards keep the approved phone controls
and table records” test for the load-bearing overflow and flex-sizing rules in
`uiCard.css`: `.v2-ui-card` sizing, `.v2-ui-card .ui` text wrapping, fixed table
layout, and hidden overflow on `.ui-tw`. Use the existing `css` variable and
assertion style.

Links.cardHref accepts only exact https: hosts with no userinfo and no port. Every link path goes through it: the Link view (CardLink), and Action(OpenUrl(...)) at parse time. Links open with target=_blank rel="noopener noreferrer". The tests cover javascript:, http:, a suffix host, @ userinfo, credentials, a port, a bare OpenUrl, and a dormant unused Action(OpenUrl(evil)) statement.
Capabilities.Query, Mutation, Run, $ reactive ids, state declarations and unknown components are all refused before mount. No tools map or onAction is passed to Renderer, so even a parsed Action has nothing to call.
Resource bounds. 32 KB source, 256 statements, bracket depth 64, memoized ref expansion capped at 4096, a materialized-tree cap, and a character allowlist ahead of the forgiving lexer. A DAG bomb saturates instead of blowing up.
Failure handling. A parse failure, catalogue mismatch or runtime error renders the message's plain content with a fallback line, never the raw source. CardRenderBoundary keeps a thrown renderer or a failed lazy chunk inside its own message.
Devtools. Setting Symbol.for('openui.devtools.autoMount') = true before the lazy import is correct. I read react-lang 1.0.1's devtoolsBootstrap: it mounts only when the flag is falsy, and only under NODE_ENV === "development". publishObservability={false} is passed.
Fetches.TaskView reads the message's own pod. TraceView takes runPodId and runId from the payload but requires both to be 24-hex, and fetches with the viewer's own credentials. That's a read the viewer could already make, and nothing goes back to the author.
Dependencies. Versions are pinned exactly: lang-core and react-lang 1.0.1, ajv 8.20.0, zod 4.6.7. lang-core has a postinstall that sends pseudonymous install telemetry to PostHog. It's disclosed, and the PR sets OPENUI_TELEMETRY_DISABLED=1 in frontend/Dockerfile and both CI install steps.
Non-blocking:
frontend/Dockerfile.dev (used by ./dev.sh up) and plain local npm install still send that telemetry. Add ENV OPENUI_TELEMETRY_DISABLED=1 to Dockerfile.dev in a follow-up, or a .npmrc-independent note in frontend/TESTING.md.
The PR body says the allowlist is "github.com today". The code allows commonly.me, docs.commonly.me and github.com. All three are fine, but please fix the body so it matches.
