Summary

Preserve Claude translated-lane server web tools, cache TTL, caller output limits and declared client-error statuses. Record every sidecar iteration, error-terminal usage and physical retry against the account that spent it, keep incomplete metering out of confident prices, and allow evicted launchd jobs to drain before repair bootstraps.

Each carried source has a separate Vadym-authored commit:

Excluded: #7205 by @vadymhimself. Its replay map uses answer text/tool IDs across the whole conversation, and the adapter consumes the first matching anchor. An earlier assistant message with identical text therefore receives a later server-tool exchange; the source explicitly notes this ambiguity. The carry was reverted; replay requires message/block-position provenance before landing. Source evidence: global text key and first-match consumption. #7194 and #7201 remain independent and carried.

Bundle repairs move the #7178 output-cap case unchanged into its own sibling to stay below the 2,000-line threshold, retain all test-layout registrations, synchronize the four translated server-tool pages, fit existing structure-document budgets, and cover partly measured attempts that still carry token counters. Existing partial-price attribution for fully measured attempts with missing catalog prices remains supported.

Verification

Refreshed against origin/dev at c03eafd46bdae15aba058850e409c0598309e2ed by merge commit 6b1d4581139125ee41b72b2f4e657b93fc2fdeb6; current pushed head is c9c7601b2665bdc8713d1f34b4eee03e6efd8d1a. The only textual conflict was structure/providers-and-adapters.md: both dev's terminal-refusal contract and this PR's translated server-tool contract are retained, at 592/600 lines.

Validation runs on lidge only (Bun 1.4.3). Local tests, typechecks, builds, lint and installs were not run by user rule. Mini/integration validation and merge decisions remain with the coordinator.

Label Exact head Typecheck exit Tests Status
RVB-c9c7601-focus c9c7601b2665bdc8713d1f34b4eee03e6efd8d1a 0 485 pass / 0 fail, 21 files; test exit 0 Completed
RVB-c9c7601 c9c7601b2665bdc8713d1f34b4eee03e6efd8d1a 0 48,615 pass / 29 fail / 145 skip; test exit 1 Completed: zero new failures vs dev-c03eafd
dev-c03eafd c03eafd46bdae15aba058850e409c0598309e2ed 0 48,553 pass / 29 fail / 145 skip; test exit 1 Completed baseline

The focused run covers the carried Claude, usage-pricing, iteration/error metering, account attribution and launchd cases, plus the bridge refusal, size-ratchet, both test-layout guards, structure SSOT and CLI skill-surface suites. The existing web-search and image refusal tests now cover all 18 combinations of direct refusal, a prior hidden round, and account rotation, with terminalRefusalAsFailed true/false/unset. They assert one terminal, no sidecar action after refusal, usage on the correct account, and the existing client-wire totals. No production loop change was needed beyond the automatic merge.

All eight carried test files retain both layout registrations; the two expanded refusal files were already registered by dev. No file-size caps were raised. The branch adds no GUI locale or CLI-capability/surface changes relative to dev. Reviewed structure budgets remain within limits (providers 592, runtime 589, dashboard 600, wire shapes 599; limit 600).

Exact commands for the full run and comparison:

ssh lidge '~/bin/ocx-lane-launch.sh 2 c9c7601b2665bdc8713d1f34b4eee03e6efd8d1a RVB-c9c7601'
ssh lidge '~/bin/ocx-lane-cmp.sh RVB-c9c7601 dev-c03eafd'

Logs, exact focused test arguments, heads and exits are in ~/ocx-lane/logs/<label>.summary, <label>.log, <label>.log.typecheck and <label>.log.setup on lidge. Only failures absent from the new same-host dev-c03eafd baseline count as regressions. The completed comparison reports new failures: 0, base failures now passing/absent: 0, and all 26 baseline batches present. Both typechecks exit 0; test exit 1 reflects the same 29 failure names on both heads. Final tree: 0b904f657e9f3f1a84e70492c67a5534fb605146. Superseded 6b1d458 runs were stopped and are not passing evidence: the full-label launcher interrupted its prefix-matching focused run, and the replacement focus exposed an image test fixture that counted cached request builds rather than physical sends. The fixture is corrected on the current head.

Hosted CI also completed on the exact current head: all four Ubuntu test shards, structure gate, docs build, Docker smoke, storage policy, API usage, npm-global, keyring, catalog contracts, React Doctor and Linux systemd passed. The gates job failed in its GUI-tests step (3,387 pass / 4 fail), making aggregate ci fail. All four failures are source-oracle placement assertions in gui/tests/models-keep-native-v1-placement.test.ts at lines 16, 26, 34 and 49. The entire gui/ diff against c03eafd46bdae15aba058850e409c0598309e2ed is empty; the test and both files it reads (gui/src/pages/Models.tsx, gui/src/styles-models-workspace.css) are byte-identical to that baseline. This establishes inherited test inputs by static comparison, not a separately executed baseline GUI run. No GUI fix or CI rerun was attempted by this bounded lane. Coordinator judgment is required for the inherited GUI gate failure before merge.

Checklist

  • Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
  • Docs or release notes were updated when needed.
  • Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults. No credential destinations, auth storage, workflow permissions or release automation change; provider-owned web tools remain gated to the existing native Anthropic endpoint. Maintainer review remains with the coordinator.

Exclude #7205: replayedAnthropicServerBlocks keys by text across all assistant messages and keeps the first map entry. messagesToAnthropicFormat consumes that key at its first matching text, including an earlier unrelated assistant message. Repeated answer text relocates server tool history; use message/block-position provenance before carrying replay. #7194 and #7201 remain.

The carry union keeps all new test registrations and synchronized translated tool documentation. Complete #7189 coverage so a partly measured attempt with token counters still makes the whole request cost unknown. Document caller TTL, gateway output caps and bounded launchd settling.

…budgets

Preserve existing partial price attribution when measured usage lacks a catalog price. Only missing or unmeasured usage makes the request total unknown. Fit the accompanying contract updates within existing 600-line document budgets.

📝 Walkthrough

This pull request updates Claude request translation, usage and pricing accounting, upstream error-status handling, and launchd repair timing. It also updates related documentation and tests.

Changes: Claude translation and request handling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Anthropic server-tool forwarding and result translation
src/claude/*, src/server/responses/*, src/types/request.ts, src/adapters/anthropic.ts, src/bridge/*, src/protocols/encoders/*, src/claude/outbound.ts, tests/claude-integration/claude-translated-server-tools.test.ts, docs-site/src/content/docs/guides/claude-code.md, docs-site/src/content/docs/{ja,ko,ru,zh-cn}/guides/claude-code.md, structure/providers-and-adapters.md
Typed web_search_* and web_fetch_* declarations pass through Anthropic ingress to the native Anthropic endpoint. Search and fetch results return through bridge events and are encoded as matching tool-use and result blocks.
Translated request policies
src/claude/inbound.ts, src/server/claude-messages.ts, tests/claude-integration/claude-translated-cache-ttl.test.ts, tests/claude-integration/claude-gateway-output-cap.test.ts, docs-site/src/content/docs/reference/configuration/providers.md, structure/clients/claude-desktop.md
When cacheRetention is unset, translated requests derive long retention only when all discovered breakpoints specify ttl: "1h". An explicit setting takes precedence. Non-canonical Responses gateways retain the caller’s max_output_tokens.
Recognized upstream statuses
src/lib/errors.ts, src/server/claude-messages.ts, src/server/relay.ts, src/server/request-log-terminal-status.ts, tests/claude-integration/claude-client-refusal-status.test.ts, docs-site/src/content/docs/reference/management-api.md, structure/transports/responses-wire-shapes.md
Recognized client-error classes map to HTTP 400, 401, 403, or 404. Client-close wording can map a recognized 400 to 499. Claude Messages preserves recognized statuses below 429; other upstream errors use the described 502 handling.
Translated Claude documentation
structure/clients/claude-desktop.md
The bundled-skill documentation describes server-tool forwarding, output-cap handling, and cache-retention selection.

Usage and pricing accounting

Layer / File(s) Summary
Measured usage and request pricing
src/usage/cost.ts, src/usage/summary.ts, tests/usage/*cost.test.ts, tests/usage/usage-summary.test.ts, docs-site/src/content/docs/guides/web-dashboard.md, structure/pricing.md, structure/dashboard-and-usage.md
Only reported and estimated usage receives a cost estimate. A potentially billable attempt without measured usage makes a request unpriced; an attempt known to have spent nothing does not invalidate a priced request.
Physical attempt aggregation
src/server/request-log.ts, tests/usage/key-attribution.test.ts, tests/routing/routing-policy-dispatch-scope.test.ts, structure/dashboard-and-usage.md
Non-local requests with multiple attempts use aggregated attempt usage in request logs. Single-attempt and locally answered requests retain request-level usage.
Loop usage and rotation attribution
src/web-search/loop.ts, src/web-search/progress-stream.ts, src/images/loop.ts, src/server/responses/sidecar-execution.ts, tests/web-search/*usage.test.ts, tests/images/loop.test.ts, tests/images/loop-terminal-refusal.test.ts, tests/web-search/web-search-terminal-refusal.test.ts, structure/runtime.md
Image and web-search loops include hidden iteration and error usage in accounting while keeping client terminal usage distinct. The loops can attribute hidden usage to a changed account through a callback.

launchd repair

Layer / File(s) Summary
Wait for evicted jobs to exit
src/service/launchd.ts, tests/service/launchd-repair.test.ts, structure/ops/service-and-sidecars.md
The repair loop allows up to 125 probes at 200 ms intervals for an evicted job to disappear before bootstrapping its replacement.

Server-tool results reach callers correctly. Two open usage-accounting problems remain. A partly measured request can be shown as fully priced. Measured cost can also be left out of top-level Usage totals. Resolve these issues before merging.

🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Enforce the server-tool input buffer limit on the incoming fragment.

If serverSearch.json is empty and one input_json_delta.partial_json exceeds 4 KiB, Line 1416 permits Line 1418 to append the whole fragment. The result handler then retains and parses input that this buffer intends to discard. Append no more than the remaining capacity. An input that exceeds the limit can lose its query or URL label, as the existing comment specifies.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Keep known-zero refusals from suppressing request-level cost totals.

When a non-combo request receives a usage-less 429 and then a measured successful attempt, this new branch selects aggregateAttemptUsage. That function marks the row unreported because of the 429. computeEntryCost still prices the measured attempt and treats the 429 as a known zero, but addEstimatedCost in src/usage/summary.ts returns on the row’s unreported status before adding that cost. The top-level Usage summary therefore reports an unmetered request and zero estimated cost, while its model breakdown can report a priced request. Make the summary’s cost classification use the attempt-level known-zero and measured-usage facts for multi-attempt rows. Test the persisted status produced by this path, rather than setting a retry fixture’s row status to reported.

Do not classify a sent client cancellation as a known zero.

If an upstream send is cancelled before the first output, its attempt can have status: 499, sendCount: 1, no usage, and no firstOutputMs. Line 825 classifies that attempt as spentNothing, although the provider may have processed the prompt. Alongside a measured attempt, computeEntryCost can then mark the request priced while omitting the cancelled send’s unknown cost. Restrict the known-zero status branch to refusals that establish no billable generation; keep 499 and ambiguous transport failures unpriced. Add a cancellation case beside the 429 pricing tests.

Review comment at @src/usage/summary.ts at line 825:
Update the spentNothing status check in computeEntryCost so 499 cancellations
and ambiguous transport failures remain unpriced, even when no output was
received; only treat statuses that establish no billable generation as known
zero. Add a cancellation pricing case beside the existing 429 tests.

New source evidence for the excluded #7205: the author pushed 1aef925e3e180f25ed45ffcf10fc002f1ae2a58f after the earlier anchor-ambiguity finding. I inspected that commit: extraction and replay now both index each anchor by occurrence number, and a regression distinguishes identical text in an earlier assistant turn from a later server-tool exchange.

This directly targets the exclusion's first-matching-text counterexample. It is not a review of every translation/provenance case or a new test result from me. Keep the source excluded until the corrected exact head is reviewed and its carried union is validated; do not close it as handled based on the older rejected tree. I have not changed either contributor or carry branch.

Carried from #7195, #6767, #6691, #7213 (one commit per source PR, original authors preserved). #4649 held for security review. Security review follow-up: the Windows picker relay binds only when picker activation or selected-profile recovery needs it.

Maintainer integration decision (dev, MAINTAINERS.md maintainer-integration policy): landing this PR at head 87cea2f as part of batch 2 of the 2026-10-16 PR-reduction round.

Hosted GitHub Actions were unreliable and the maintainer ruled out local test runs for this round, so the evidence is remote and exact-tree:
