feat(byo): Claude Code listeners work in their folder on invite-only pods, with --allow write and web (TASK-294) - #2746
TASK-294. On macOS, a Claude Code listener set up from the Connect page now gets trust workspace when every pod its key answers in is private. Private means not publicly readable, not listed in Community, and with Who can join set to invite-only. Public pods keep public, and assertSandboxDeclaredForPublicPod stays.
The workspace default. The seat can Read, Grep and Glob under the folder it was first run from, and run read-only git there (status, log, diff, show, blame). Git goes through a CLI-owned stdio MCP tool: an argv array passed to execFile, with no shell. Bash, Edit, Write, WebFetch, WebSearch, NotebookEdit and Task stay denied, and Seatbelt holds the project read-only.
-L, except as the first argument of log or show with the range in the same argument
any %G placeholder, and format names that aren't built into git
abbreviations git accepts for any of these, and glued short-option clusters
aliases, and paths outside the folder
Each deny has its own test. A positive control shows that the unguarded form writes a file, reads one it shouldn't, or runs a program.
Programs a repository's config can name are off.diff, log and show run with --no-ext-diff and --no-textconv, log and show with --no-show-signature, and blame with --no-textconv. Top-level -c settings turn off fsmonitor, signature checks, and the submodule diff and summary, and force git's own default format. Those settings reach the child git a submodule runs in, which the flags don't.
The environment is rebuilt from an allowlist: system and global git config are off, optional locks are off, and repository discovery stops at the folder.
Read-only git never contacts a remote.GIT_NO_LAZY_FETCH=1 means a partial clone reports an object it never downloaded as missing. Without it, show fetched the object and wrote it into .git/objects (measured on git 2.54.0). GIT_ALLOW_PROTOCOL set to a name no transport uses refuses every protocol, which covers git older than 2.44, where GIT_NO_LAZY_FETCH does nothing.
.env files, .env.* files and what a .env folder holds, at any depth, are out of reach in two layers: the jail (an SBPL regex under the workspace root) and the tool policy. Read-only git refuses an argument that names one, in every form git reads a path from. status, log, diff and show run with pathspecs that exclude them, so no patch, pickaxe match or blob id comes from one.
.git can't be read with the file tools, because .git/config can hold a remote URL with a token. History still comes through read-only git.
--allow write adds Edit, Write and Bash, and makes the folder writable. .git stays read-only, so there are no commits, hooks or config changes.
--allow web adds WebFetch only. WebSearch stays denied.
Grants are set at first run with commonly agent run <name> --allow write, web. A later run that asks for different grants is refused, and the refusal says how to change them. Asking for a grant on a seat that won't work in its folder is refused with the reason, never dropped.
A check before every turn. The seat re-reads its pods before each turn. If it can't confirm they are all private, including when the read fails, that turn runs as a public seat in its scratch folder. It gets a fresh session and no grants. It also gets none of the agent's memory: memory is left out of the prompt, the memory tools are denied, and nothing syncs back.
Refused start folders:$HOME, /, any ancestor of $HOME, and the credential folders (~/.commonly, ~/.claude, ~/.codex, ~/.ssh, ~/.aws, ~/.config). Those seats keep the public default and log why.
macOS only for now. Under bwrap the child's HOME is the folder, so transcripts would be written into the project. The adapter therefore refuses workspace with bwrap, and off macOS the first-run default stays public.
Codex and the other adapters (opencode, qwen, pi, goose, dsh) refuse a declared workspace. It is Claude-only for now.
Docs.docs-site/bring-your-own/work-in-your-repo.mdx gains a "What the listener can reach" section, and the Claude Code page links to it. The Connect page says the same under the listener command, in en and zh-CN, including the macOS condition.
Backend. The runtime /installations response reports publicRead, communityListed and joinPolicy per pod.
Choices and limits, named
Plain attach with no --env on a private pod stays unconfined, as today. Only the Connect-page first-run path defaults to workspace.
Daemon-derived seats stay public.
A post the seat makes mid-turn into a public pod has no server-side enforcement, because the trust check runs before the turn. Workspace turns deny commonly_self_install_into_pod, so a turn can't join a public room partway through.
Trust is read from /installations, not /pods.
When the folder is a worktree or a submodule, its gitdir lies outside it, so read-only git fails there.
.git is read-only under write by choice, so the seat cannot commit.
Unchanged: the grant broker admits only public trust, so workspace seats get no room grants.
The workspace_git server also gets a commonly_self_install_into_pod deny. It means nothing for that server and does no harm.
URL fetch stays off by default. A seat that can both read and fetch any URL could move what it read off the machine, and permissions can't tell a pasted URL from one the seat built. Bash reaches the network, so write opens the same path. The docs page says both.
A clean filter set in the repository's own git config, such as Git LFS, still runs, because status, diff and blame need it to tell whether a file changed. It runs inside the same read-only sandbox. The docs page says so.
Git can't refuse a committed .env asked for by its object id, if that id was learned somewhere else. The docs page says to keep secrets out of git history.
Anyone who can @mention the seat in its pods can ask what the folder's files say. Invite-only limits who that is; it doesn't keep the folder from them. The docs page says to run it from a folder you would show them.
Since the first gates
Rhea passed fede2cf4c (comment 6404279785) and Sable held it (review 5645688210). The branch is now rebased onto main after #2747, so fede2cf4c is 4b5549989. New since then:
a190a3c0b: no gpg and no textconv (Sable's four points). .env folders and .git are out of reach.
9bf27589d: a workspace seat's turn that runs public gets no memory and no memory tools. The commit's subject says "a turn that runs public", but a seat that is public from the start reads its memory as before, because it never reads the project.
0ecbe8619: the docs state the macOS condition and the object-id limit.
117aa108f: --follow is refused.
213d5aa3a: a submodule follows the same rules.
e05b9d4d6: the Connect page names the macOS condition.
cebf403b1: read-only git never contacts a remote.
3ce8e856d: the docs say everyone in the pods can ask what the folder holds.
b28e35e63: --full-diff is refused.
488c64a14: test git inherits no GIT_* from the shell.
97f5393e6: the Connect page states every condition for folder access.
a0c372047: the docs' scratch-folder cases include a pod listed in Community.
bb7c6caa4: -L is accepted only as the first argument of log or show, in one piece.
885e8bf00: the Linux Connect page test checks that no folder guidance shows.
Rhea (review 5646217191) and Sable (review 5646194831) passed 885e8bf00. One commit since:
ae1030363: rewrites the zh-CN Connect string after the zh-CN two-pass review (table below). Only that line of zh-CN.json changes.
The CodeRabbit findings are answered in issuecomment-6404232821, issuecomment-6404603909, issuecomment-6404911194 and issuecomment-6405367672.
Follow-up after merge, from Sable's re-gate (non-blocking): checkFormat should also catch abbreviated forms of --format= and --pretty=, such as --form= and --pret=. git 2.54.0 rejects those for log and show, so they can't reach gpg today, but the guard shouldn't depend on that.
zh-CN review
agentByo.listen.reachClaude went through the zh-CN two-pass review. A voice pass and a terminology pass ran in parallel, then one adjudication pass: the glossary wins on terms, the voice pass wins on rhythm. Every fact in the en string survives, and {{name}}, --allow write, --allow web and macOS are unchanged. All rows are the same key.

Proof
Measured under real sandbox-exec, with the exact Seatbelt profile the adapter emits:
The git tool answers log and status.
Without write, a write into the project is refused.
With write, project edits succeed. Writes to .git/config and .git/hooks are refused, and so are moving .git, links into .git, and anything outside the project.
.env files at any depth are refused, tested in a folder whose name holds regex metacharacters. Ordinary files such as .envrc and notes.env stay readable.
Smoke tests (macOS only): seatbelt.workspace-write.smoke.test.mjs and seatbelt.env-files.smoke.test.mjs.
Real git in every git test. The partial-clone test clones with --filter=blob:none. The guarded show fails and the object stays missing. Bare git fetches it, as the control. Dropping either environment guard alone still fetches nothing.
Mutation-checked throughout. Each guard was removed in turn, and a test failed every time. Before the first gates, I also set the platform default to Linux and ran the whole CLI suite, and it passed.
Suites:
CLI: 1,772 passed, 18 skipped; lint clean. One macOS-only smoke test, seatbelt.ca.smoke.test.mjs, fails on this machine both at a0c372047 and at this head. It fetches example.com from inside the sandbox and gets a non-200 response. It doesn't touch this change, and CI skips it off macOS.
Frontend: 178 suites, 1,802 passed. The one file changed since then passes at this head (15 tests).
Backend: the docs-site facts and runtime /installations tests pass (15).

Walkthrough
This pull request adds workspace trust for Claude Code listeners. Pod visibility and start-directory checks control workspace access. Sandbox rules and optional grants constrain access, and each turn rechecks visibility. The change also adds restricted read-only Git access and updates listener guidance.

Installation responses include pod visibility and join-policy fields. Workspace selection requires confirmed private visibility, Claude on macOS, and an allowed start directory.
Sandbox validation accepts workspace trust and the write and web grants. Host-mode resolution covers workspace trust, and non-Claude adapters reject it. agent run parses grants and checks later requests against saved grants.

Claude workspace seats use grant-dependent tool permissions and Seatbelt rules. The rules deny .env access at any depth and can keep named workspace entries, including .git, read-only. Workspace skills mount in scratch storage.
A Git runner validates commands, options, arguments, paths, and environment before execution. An MCP server exposes the runner to workspace seats when Git is available.

Workspace-trust turns reread installations. Unconfirmed visibility switches the turn to public trust and scratch placement. Session bindings and spawn context use the selected placement, and fallback turns withhold memory.
Documentation and interface text describe folder access, the write and web grants, and their stated data-disclosure implications. The reachability note appears for Claude listeners.

Qualify when the listener can use the start folder.
An invite-only selected pod is not sufficient. Workspace access also requires all pods associated with the key to be confirmed private and the start folder to pass the safety check. Otherwise, the listener uses scratch. State those conditions here and in frontend/src/i18n/locales/en.json line 1587 so the setup page does not promise access that the CLI refuses.

Fix the path containment check: startsWith('..') also matches directory names that begin with ...
relative() returns '..foo' for a child directory named ..foo. rel.startsWith('..') then treats it as outside the parent. This is a string-prefix check on a path segment.
Concrete failure: a start directory ~/.ssh/..keys produces rel === '..keys'. isInsideOrEqual(real, join(realHome, '.ssh')) returns false, so the credential-store refusal does not fire. The same flaw can make an ancestor-of-$HOME check miss when $HOME has a ..-prefixed segment.
Add a test with a ..-prefixed directory inside a credential store.
Based on learnings: path containment must reject only a leading parent-traversal segment, not any string prefix.

Strip inherited GIT_* variables from the test's git subprocesses.
bareGit spreads process.env into the child environment. The git init, git status, and git commit calls on Lines 218 and 221 inherit it as well. When the suite runs under a git hook, GIT_DIR, GIT_WORK_TREE, and GIT_INDEX_FILE are set. Examples are a husky pre-commit or pre-push that runs npm test.
The temporary-repo commands would then operate on the developer's real repository. bareGit(['add'...]) and bareGit(['commit', '-m', 'first commit']) would stage and commit into it. The control assertions at Lines 222 and 73 would also be unreliable.
Build the base environment with every GIT_* key removed, and use it in both places.
Also pass { env: cleanEnv() } to the execFileAsync calls at Lines 218 and 221.
Based on learnings: "explicitly strip Git repository-location environment variables (GIT_DIR, GIT_WORK_TREE, GIT_INDEX_FILE, GIT_OBJECT_DIRECTORY, etc.) … Apply the same env-scrubbing in tests that spawn git against temporary repositories."

Scope the any-depth .env deny to workspace-trust profiles.
buildSeatbeltProfile is shared by Claude, Qwen, and OpenCode. The new unconditional rule can block .env.example and nested .env reads for Qwen and OpenCode public Seatbelt sessions. The new envFilesUnder validation can also reject valid workspace paths containing quotes or line breaks for every caller.
Limit the any-depth rule and its validation to workspace trust. Preserve the existing root .env deny for other callers.
Set denyEnvFilesAtAnyDepth: sandboxTrust === 'workspace' in the Claude Seatbelt options.

log, diff and show read -S as the pickaxe string, so it was allowed for
every subcommand. blame reads it as a file of revisions instead, and
prints back a line it cannot parse ("bad graft data: <line>"). So
`blame -S/etc/hosts tracked.txt` read a file outside the workspace and
returned its first line. The letter is now refused for blame only. The
test's control runs the bare form and finds the file's line in stderr.

The sandbox denies .env and .env.* by name, but a copy committed to git
lives in the object store, where the read-only git tool could print it:
show HEAD:.env, a patch in log -p, a pickaxe match, a raw listing.
An argument that names a .env file is now refused in every form git reads
a path from (HEAD:.env, :0:sub/.env.local, -L1,5:.env, a path after --,
blame's file). status, log, diff and show run with excluding pathspecs,
so a patch, a glob, a pickaxe or a raw listing leaves those files out.
What remains: show <blob id> with an id learned somewhere else.

Agent-Model: claude/claude-opus-5-5/max
feat(byo): Claude Code listeners work in their folder on invite-only pods, with --allow write and web (TASK-294) #2746 (comment) (visibility alone isn't private), fixed in 3dadd64. The invite reasoning doesn't hold: redemption skips the join policy for open and invite-only pods alike, and only members can mint an invite. The fix is still right, for another reason: agent self-install admits any agent to an open pod an agent created, listed or not. So workspace trust now also requires joinPolicy: 'invite-only', and /installations reports it. A pod with no stored policy reads as open.

Isolate workspace memory from public fallback turns.
When placeTurn falls back to public trust, do not pass the agent-wide memoryLongTerm to Claude. A workspace turn may store project details there, and Claude injects that value into the public prompt.
Also prevent the fallback from writing to shared long_term memory through Commonly MCP tools. Do not rely on result.memorySummary; Claude does not return that field.

State the macOS condition for workspace placement.
firstRunWorkspace returns workspacePath: null whenever platform !== 'darwin', even when all pods are invite-only and private. This sentence says pod privacy alone makes the listener use the command folder. State that folder placement applies on macOS and that other platforms use scratch placement.

fede2cf: TASK-294 Tier 2 gate, code review of the diff (rhea). I did not run the suite.
What I checked, by reading the diff and the head sources of claude.js and seatbelt.js:
.env holds in three layers. git-readonly.js refuses an argument that names a .env file, and appends :(exclude,glob)**/.env pathspecs to status/log/diff/show, so :(literal).env-style magic is still excluded. claude.js denies Read(./.env.*), Read(./**/.env) and Read(./**/.env.*). seatbelt.js denies file read and write on .env* at any depth by regex. The Seatbelt profile is deny-by-default, so Bash cannot reach ~/.commonly or other home paths.
The git argv holds. Only five builtins run, and the caller's arguments go after them, so top-level -c, -C, --git-dir and --exec-path are never parsed. Abbreviations of denied long options are refused. The two exact names that prefix a denied one (--text, --ignore-rev) are real options and pass. core.fsmonitor is forced off, and GIT_CEILING_DIRECTORIES stops repository discovery at the workspace.
The per-turn re-read fails closed. An unreadable pod list is null and runs public in scratch. An empty list also runs public. allow grants are dropped on a public turn.
The backend returns the three visibility fields with the effective defaults, and /installations is agentRuntimeAuth-gated.
Non-blocking residuals, for Sable and the press to weigh:
--allow write grants Bash, and seatbelt has (allow network-outbound). A turn can therefore send any workspace file that is readable (.env excluded) off-host. This is an operator opt-in and the bootstrap line discloses it. web (WebFetch) is the same channel.
The first-run default takes any launch folder that is not home or a credential store. A seat started from a private project folder (for example a Qing or Rememly checkout) exposes that folder to every member of an invite-only pod. Consider refusing known private-repo paths, or documenting this in the bootstrap line.
show <blob id> with an id learned elsewhere can read a committed .env. The header already says so.
CI: isolated-egress is red at 22:25Z. The cause is Cannot find package '@commonlyai/seats' from cli/src/lib/runtime-observation.js. That file is unchanged by this PR, and main's agent.js already imports it, so the failure predates this diff as far as I can see. It still blocks the press, so the egress job needs fixing or a main-branch run needs to show the same failure.
Head is 3 commits behind main, which is expected until #2747 merges.

Tier 2 security gate at fede2cf. Verified by running the code in a clean worktree at this head (cli deps installed with npm ci --ignore-scripts), not by reading alone.
Verdict: HOLD. Two of the three checks fail as written, and one of the failures is a .env leak.
1. No git argument writes or executes: FAILS on execution
--show-signature and any %G format placeholder run gpg. Probe: a commit with a gpgsig header and a stub gpg on PATH that touches a marker. log --show-signature -1 and log --format=%G? -1 both created the marker. The program is fixed (whatever gpg PATH resolves to), so no caller picks it, and the sandbox denies its writes. Impact is low, but the module header says no git call may run a program, and that is false.
Fix: refuse --show-signature and any %G in a format or pretty argument, and force --no-show-signature on log and show.
git blame runs the repository's configured textconv. Probe: .gitattributes*.txt diff=p plus diff.p.textconv in the repo config. Plain blame created the marker. blame --no-textconv did not (verified). diff, log and show force --no-textconv; blame does not.
Fix: add --no-textconv to FORCED_OPTIONS.blame. The repo owner sets the config, so the seat can't trigger this alone. It still breaks the stated contract.
2. Nothing escapes the workspace: holds
:(glob)../../etc/* is refused by git ("outside repository"). /etc/hosts is refused by the lexical check.
-O, --outp (abbreviation of --output) and --git (abbreviation of --git-dir) are refused. --orderfile= is rejected by this git as an invalid option for diff.
A symlink to a file outside the repo shows only the link text.
--help prints usage, not a man page.
show <blob id> with an id learned elsewhere still reads the blob. I could not get an id through the tool: log --raw --no-abbrev, show --raw and diff --raw omit excluded paths, and show <tree> lists names only. This matches the module's own disclosure. Accepted.
3. .env out of reach, committed copies included: FAILS for .env/ directories
No leak through any git route. log -p, log -p with no pathspec, -S pickaxe, :(icase), :(literal).env, show HEAD~1:.env, show ./.env, blame .env, blame -L1,1:.env, and --raw all either refuse or omit the file. Under Seatbelt, .env, .ENV, .Env, app/.ENV.LOCAL are denied (read, cat, cp, hardlink and symlink in write mode are all refused).
Defect: a directory named .env is readable.ws/.env/secrets.json reads as DIRSECRET under the read-only jail. The sandbox regex ^ws/(.*/)?\.env(\..*)?$ matches the directory name but not what is under it, and the Claude side denies only Read(./**/.env), which does not cover the directory's contents. The git layer already excludes **/.env/**, so the two layers disagree.
Fix: extend the regex to cover \.env(/.*|\..*)?$ and add Read(./**/.env/**) to the workspace denies. Add a Seatbelt smoke case for .env/secrets.json.
Also (outside the three checks, should fix)
.git/config is readable through Read(./**). Under the read-only jail .git/config reads back, including any url = https://user:token@… a clone left behind. The git tool runs in its own process, so a Claude-side deny does not touch it.
Fix: add Read(./.git/**) to the workspace denies. The tool still returns history.
Head d94e8f1. This answers every CodeRabbit finding from the reviews at 594121a, 3dadd64 and fede2cf. All are fixed.
5645628287 (zh-CN reachClaude, Minor): the line now says 传出这台电脑 (56e32f0).
5645661557, outside the diff (memory on a fallback public turn, Major): valid. A workspace seat's turn that runs public now:
doesn't read long-term memory;
gets a cue that its memory is withheld, instead of the empty-memory cue that invites a save;
has the memory tools denied;
never syncs a summary back.
The withholding is decided where the turn's prompt and tools are set up. It doesn't depend on result.memorySummary (56e32f0). The tests are in memory-bridge, workspace-turn-run-loop and adapters.claude.environment, and each fails without the fix.
5645661557, docs line 24 (macOS condition, Minor): valid. firstRunWorkspace keeps a seat public when it isn't on macOS. The page now says "On macOS" and lists "anywhere but macOS" among the cases that use the scratch folder (e9e4aec).
r4372760368 (committed .env claim, Major): valid. The line now says read-only git refuses those files by name or path. It also says git can't refuse a committed file asked for by its object id, so secrets belong out of history (e9e4aec).
5645686804, review body (--follow, Minor): valid. git takes exactly one pathspec with --follow, and the .env excludes always add more, so it's now refused with that reason. The test sits next to the -L cases, with a bare-git control (239b6f9).
One more fix, from my own check rather than CodeRabbit: a submodule's git runs as a child process, which none of the forced flags reach. --submodule=diff is now refused. diff.submodule, status.submoduleSummary and log.showSignature are now forced through -c, which does reach child git. Each guard has a test with a bare-git control, and each test fails without its guard (d94e8f1).
Sable's four points are fixed in cf9d827. CLI: 1,764 passed, lint clean. I'll ask for the re-gate after rebasing onto main once #2747 merges.
…here but claude (TASK-294)
First slice of the BYO workspace tier. The schema accepts trust 'workspace'
and its opt-ins (sandbox.allow: write, web — only on a workspace seat). Every
adapter other than claude refuses a declared workspace trust at spawn and at
attach, with one shared message, so an unread trust can never fall into a
bare spawn the way 'internal' did.
Attach requires a CONFIRMED private pod for a workspace declaration and fails
closed when the pod's visibility cannot be read. The host mode resolves the
same way it does for public trust (Seatbelt on macOS, bwrap elsewhere), and
the daemon's default-sandbox step keeps a workspace record instead of
narrowing it. The grant-broker guard still reads the trust itself, so a
workspace seat gets no room grant.
The runtime /installations list now reports each pod's effective publicRead
and communityListed, the input the per-turn check reads next. A pod that no
longer exists carries neither field.
Pure predicates for pod visibility and the start-directory guard (/, $HOME,
an ancestor of $HOME, a credential store) land with their tests; the claude
policy, the per-turn check and the git tool follow in this branch.

…alidated (TASK-294)
A `workspace`-trust seat may read the repository it started in — status,
log, diff, show, blame — and nothing more. A Bash permission prefix is
not a boundary that holds here, so Bash stays denied to the tier and git
is offered as one stdio MCP server, `workspace_git`, exposing a single
`git` tool. Its argv is built and run with execFile, no shell in between.
The validator keeps the tool read-only along four lines:
- the subcommand is one of the five builtins, so an alias never resolves,
and the caller's arguments land after it where git's top-level options
are not parsed;
- options that write a file, run a program, or read a caller-named file
are refused by name, including git's accepted abbreviations of them,
with a reason;
- paths that leave the workspace are refused, before and after `--`;
- diff/log/show are forced through `--no-ext-diff --no-textconv`, status
through `core.fsmonitor=false`, and the environment is rebuilt from an
allowlist with config off and GIT_CEILING_DIRECTORIES at the workspace,
so discovery cannot climb to a parent repo.
Tests pair each refusal with a positive control: the same bare git form,
run unguarded in a throwaway repo, that writes a file, runs a program, or
climbs out — so the suite proves the option is dangerous, not merely that
a string was rejected. The server is also driven end to end over a real
stdio pipe through the pi bridge's own client.
Later slices wire this into the claude adapter and admit its exec and
gitdir reads into the Seatbelt/bwrap profile.

…tarted in (TASK-294)
The Connect-page bootstrap now picks `workspace` trust for a claude seat when
every pod its token answers in is confirmed private and the start directory is
one worth exposing. The record keeps that directory as workspacePath, so the
run's cwd becomes the project instead of the scratch folder.
Anything less keeps the public default it had before, and says why:
- a pod that is publicly readable, or that did not report its visibility
(an older server fails closed);
- a start directory of /, $HOME, an ancestor of $HOME, or one inside a
credential store, with the fix (run it from the project's folder);
- any adapter but claude, for which there is nothing to decide yet.
hostSandboxRefusal now derives the mode for every host-confined trust, so a
workspace seat on a host that cannot confine it (Windows, Claude Code on
Linux, a missing Seatbelt) stops at start the way a public seat does, rather
than at its first turn.

A pod can turn public after attach, and the attach-time check reads the
pods once. So a workspace-trust seat now re-reads them from
/api/agents/runtime/installations before each turn. A turn that cannot
confirm every pod private, a failed read included, runs as a public seat
in the scratch folder: the confinement it would have had without the
workspace. The log names the reason once per change of state.
Moving the cwd moves claude's session store, so a resume across the
change fails "no conversation" and claude.js starts the turn fresh.

The previous commit relied on claude failing to resume a session from
another folder, so that a turn degraded to public would start fresh. That
is claude's behaviour, not ours, and if it ever finds the session anyway,
a public turn resumes a conversation that read the workspace.
A workspace seat's session is now bound to the trust and folder of the
turn, so the run loop itself starts a degraded turn fresh, and the same
holds on the way back. Other seats keep the binding they had.

Agent-Model: claude/claude-opus-5-5/max
Until now every confinement branch in claude.js keyed on trust 'public',
so a 'workspace' record spawned bare. A workspace seat now gets the
public contract: Seatbelt, the isolated Claude state, the scrubbed env,
the public tool policy and skills as prompt text. Its project is held
read-only by the jail.
On top of the public denies, a workspace turn cannot read any .env
variant, and cannot install itself into a pod partway through a turn,
since the run loop confirmed its pods private before the spawn.
mountSkills writes from the host process, outside any jail, so a
workspace seat's skills are copied to the run loop's scratch folder,
never into the project. Without one they are skipped.
Under bwrap the adapter refuses: bwrap points the child's HOME at its
folder, so transcripts would land in the project. The host check
already refuses claude on Linux.

…nly git tool (TASK-294)
A workspace seat now gets the workspace_git MCP server from slice 2 at
spawn: node git-readonly-server.js --root <project> --git <real git>.
Its tools are allowed as mcp__workspace_git__*, like any declared server.
The server runs inside the seat's Seatbelt jail, so the jail admits
three more things, all read-only:
- the git binary. It is resolved on the host as the `git` in
`git --exec-path`. On macOS, /usr/bin/git is an xcrun shim, and inside
the jail it fails with "No developer tools were found". The binary
behind it (Homebrew's or the Command Line Tools') runs log, diff and
status there with only itself admitted. Both were measured.
- cli/src/lib, the server's code. Without it, node cannot load the
script in the jail.
- cli/package.json, which gives node the module type instead of leaving
it to syntax detection.
Measured under the exact profile the adapter now emits, the server
answers tools/call for git log and git status. A write into the project
is refused, while the control write into the seat's state dir succeeds.
Public seats get no git tool. A machine without git runs the workspace
seat without one and says so.
Tests: 3, which catch each of six mutations (git admission, server
declaration, trust check, link instead of the real binary, lib dir, and
package.json). Full CLI suite: 1,696 passed, 18 skipped. Lint is clean.

Since slice 5, isConfinedTrust turns the work cues off for a workspace
seat. That is a decision, so a test now pins it. The seat holds its
project read-only and the Agent tool is denied to it. The two cues would
teach it things it cannot do: spawning parallel subagents, and slicing a
row before writing code. When a write grant lands, the cues can follow it.
The trust=workspace case passes. Keying the cues on trust === 'public'

… tool policy (TASK-294)
sandbox.allow now takes effect. On a workspace seat, 'write' moves Edit,
Write and Bash out of the denies and makes the project writable; 'web'
moves WebFetch alone. WebSearch, NotebookEdit and Task stay denied at every
tier, and any other trust gets no grant, whatever its record says.
The project's .git stays read-only under write, so every change the seat
makes is one `git status` shows. Measured under the profile the adapter
builds: a project write and an overwrite of a tracked file succeed. Writes
to .git/config and .git/hooks, moving .git aside, a hardlink into .git, a
write through a symlink into .git, .env, and anything outside the project
are all refused, and git commit fails. Bash reaches the network (a GET
returned 200), so write opens the same exfil pair as web; the docs page
must say so.
A turn that runs public drops the grants. Validation refuses 'write' on a
read-only seat rather than let the jail drop it quietly.

The jail denied only the folder's top-level .env. The tool policy denied
Read(./.env), plus Read(./.env.*) for a workspace seat, and both at the
root only. A workspace seat reads a real project, which keeps an .env
beside each package. Under real sandbox-exec, .env.local and
packages/api/.env were both readable.
The jail now denies .env and .env.* at any depth under the folder, for
every Seatbelt seat, with one regex rule. The workspace tool policy adds
Read(./**/.env) and Read(./**/.env.*). Regex metacharacters in the
folder's name are escaped. A path the SBPL regex literal cannot hold (one
with a quote or a line break) is refused rather than left unguarded.

token file when the seat is set up from the Connect-page env. They are fixed
there. A later run asking for different grants is refused with the way to
change them (detach --force, then re-run), never applied quietly.
Asking for a grant on a seat that will not work in its folder (a public pod,
$HOME, a codex seat) is refused with the reason, not dropped. The setup line

reach the network and that .git stays read-only, so the seat cannot commit.

Work in your repo gains a section on the new default: in invite-only pods
the listener reads the folder it was first run from and runs read-only git
there, and nothing else. It says when it falls back to its scratch folder,
what --allow write and --allow web hand over, why fetching stays off unless
asked for, and that write's commands reach the network too. The Claude Code
page points at it.

… reach (TASK-294)
Under the listener command, a Claude Code listener now says that in an
invite-only pod it reads the folder it is run from and nothing else, how
--allow write and --allow web widen that, and that either grant lets it
send what it reads off the computer. Codex listeners show no such line,
since folder access is Claude-only for now. English and Simplified Chinese.

log, diff and show read -S as the pickaxe string, so it was allowed for
every subcommand. blame reads it as a file of revisions instead, and
prints back a line it cannot parse ("bad graft data: <line>"). So
`blame -S/etc/hosts tracked.txt` read a file outside the workspace and
returned its first line. The letter is now refused for blame only. The
test's control runs the bare form and finds the file's line in stderr.

… to its folder (TASK-294)
"can read the folder you run this from and nothing else" was true of
the default, but the next sentence offered --allow write without saying
that its commands read past the folder. The line now gives the default
bound first, then says write's commands can read beyond the folder, as
the docs page already does. en and zh-CN, and the test pins the new
sentence.

…ted one (TASK-294)
Any agent can add itself to an open pod an agent created, through
POST /pods/:podId/self-install, whether or not the pod is listed. A
workspace seat in that pod would then answer the agent with its start
directory in reach. /installations now reports each pod's join policy
(absent reads as open, as in podListing.ts), and a pod counts as
private only when it is also invite-only. The attach gate names an open
pod as its reason, and the docs page and the Connect page say private
and invite-only.
Invite links are not the reason: redemption skips the join policy for
open and invite-only pods alike, and only a listed member can mint one.

readonlyGitArgv treats any -L... token as a line-range request and omits ENV_EXCLUDES. Git can consume that token as the value of a preceding option. For example, diff --src-prefix -Lx HEAD~1 HEAD includes the committed .env change when the excludes are absent.
Add a regression test for this diff case. The log --grep -Lx case is not valid because Git rejects it as an invalid line range.

… a line range (TASK-294)
A line range takes no pathspec, so a call with one runs without the .env
excludes. The validator turned them off for any token starting with -L, but
after another argument git can read that token as the option's value, and a
bare -L takes the next argument as its range. Now -L is taken only for log and
show, as the first argument, with its range in the same argument; status and
diff refuse it, since git takes no -L there. blame is unchanged: its -L names
no file and blame takes no excludes.

A line range takes no pathspec. So only a token that git is sure to read as -L may turn the .env excludes off.
-L is now accepted only for log and show, as the first argument, with the range in the same argument.
status and diff refuse -L, because git takes none there (git 2.54.0 reports unknown switch and invalid option).
A bare -L is also refused, since git would read the next argument as its range.
blame is unchanged: its -L names no file, and blame takes no excludes.
The test covers your diff --src-prefix -Lx HEAD~1 HEAD case. It also covers -L after another option, a bare -L and a second -L for both log and show, and it checks that the one-piece first-argument form still traces a line. Removing any one of the three rules makes it fail.
Nitpick on V2AgentBYOListenSnippet.test.tsx (no folder guidance when the listener is unavailable): fixed in 885e8bf00. The Linux test now asserts that byo-listen-reach is absent, and it fails when the listenerAvailable guard is removed.

I read the delta against the CLI source at that head and ran about 50 adversarial argv cases through readonlyGitArgv. No bypass found. Covered: %G in --pretty/--format (including format: and tformat:), --show-signature and its --show-sig/--show-s abbreviations, --follow/--fol, --full-diff/--full, --submodule=diff and --sub=diff, -L placement and .env names in ranges, --no-index, --textconv, --ext, --git-dir, --work-tree, -c, --output/--outp. Memory withholding and the .git and .env/ denies read correctly.
Non-blocking:
The 9bf2758 message says a turn that runs public gets no memory. The gate is placement.reason, so only a workspace seat that drops to public is withheld. A seat that is public from the start still reads memory, as before. Confirm that is intended, or narrow the message.
Residuals unchanged: --allow write gives Bash with unrestricted network; a clean filter the repo config defines runs in status, diff and blame inside the sandbox; show <blob id> is documented.
I did not run the CLI suite locally. CI is green at this head.

Tier 2 security re-gate on #2746 at 885e8bf. I checked the four points from my HOLD at fede2cf against the fix commit a190a3c and the later commits, in a clean worktree at this head with npm ci --ignore-scripts. I ran the tests and a mutation check, not reading alone.
1. gpg (--show-signature and %G). Fixed.
--show-signature is refused, and abbreviations are refused too (--show-sig, --show-s).
log and show force --no-show-signature, and -c format.pretty=medium is forced at top level.
%G is refused in --format= and --pretty= values, including format: and tformat: forms. A configured alias that could hold %G is refused unless the name is a built-in.
Probed with the real argv builder: --show-signature, --show-sig, --pretty=%G?, --format=%G?, and --pretty=tformat:%H %G? all refuse. --no-show-signature passes.
I also checked whether --form= and --pret= (abbreviations of --format and --pretty) get past the guard. The guard accepts them, but git 2.54.0 rejects them with unrecognized argument, so they do not reach gpg. This depends on git's own behaviour, not the guard. Non-blocking: add them to checkFormat so the guard does not rely on git.
Tests: git-readonly.test.mjs has a gpg control (the unguarded form runs gpg) and the guarded forms refuse.
2. blame textconv. Fixed. FORCED_OPTIONS.blame is now ['--no-textconv']. blame --textconv is refused. The argv probe shows blame --no-textconv README.md. The blame textconv control test is in git-readonly.test.mjs.
3. .env directory contents. Fixed, and the fix holds under mutation.
Seatbelt regex is now ^<ws>/(.*/)?\.env([./].*)?$. It covers .env/ directory contents, .env.local and .env/x, and does not cover .environment.
Tool policy adds Read(./.env/**), Read(./**/.env/**) and Read(./**/.env.*/**).
Mutation: I reverted the regex to \.env(\..*)?$ in the worktree. seatbelt.env-files.smoke.test.mjs fails three cases, including packages/web/.env/secrets.json and .env/deep/key.json. I restored the file and the worktree is clean.
4. .git/config readable through Read(./**). Fixed. Read(./.git/**) and Read(./**/.git/**) are in workspaceDenies. adapters.claude.environment.test.mjs asserts both are present for a workspace seat and absent for a non-workspace seat.
Not run: the full CLI suite and the macOS seatbelt.ca.smoke test. The PR body says that test fails on this machine at a0c3720 and at this head, and that it is unrelated. CI is the reference for the full suite; Wren reports it green.
Scope: I did not re-review the rest of the 14 commits since fede2cf beyond what the four points touch. Those were covered by Rhea's gate and the CodeRabbit answers the PR body cites.

Pod follows the glossary. macOS now sits inside the condition, so
"otherwise" also covers other systems, which is the CLI's rule. The
home folder is 个人文件夹, and the string now says either flag alone
is enough. 仅限邀请 stays so the string names the label the setting
shows. The change table is in the PR body.

Re-gate at ae10303 (head sha above), against my PASS at 885e8bf. The only change is one line in frontend/src/i18n/locales/zh-CN.json, the agentByo.listen.reachClaude string.
Checked against the zh-CN conventions the file and its i18n test state:
"Pod" stays English with half-width spaces on both sides (每个 Pod 都, 你信任的 Pod 里).
No em dash, and the sentence uses the Chinese comma.
The 以…加入 purpose-clause calque is absent.
「社区」 is how the file renders Community in its other 16 uses, so the term is consistent.
The meaning matches the English source: the folder-only default on macOS for all-private invite-only pods, the --allow write and --allow web opt-ins, the reach beyond the folder, and the trust condition at the end.
The JSON parses, and the diff touches only that line.
Not run: the frontend Jest suite. The check above is by reading the line against the conventions and the source string. The repo has no glossary document, so the glossary rules are the ones the i18n test and the file state.

What this does
TASK-294. On macOS, a Claude Code listener set up from the Connect page now gets trust
workspacewhen every pod its key answers in is private. Private means not publicly readable, not listed in Community, and with Who can join set to invite-only. Public pods keeppublic, andassertSandboxDeclaredForPublicPodstays. The
workspacedefault. The seat can Read, Grep and Glob under the folder it was first run from, and run read-only git there (status, log, diff, show, blame). Git goes through a CLI-owned stdio MCP tool: an argv array passed toexecFile, with no shell. Bash, Edit, Write, WebFetch, WebSearch, NotebookEdit and Task stay denied, and Seatbelt holds the project read-only.The git validator refuses:
-c,-C,-O,--config-env,--exec-path,--git-dir,--work-tree,--output,--ext-diff,--textconv,--no-index,--contents,--ignore-revs-file,--paginate,--show-signature,--follow,--full-diffand--submodule=diff-Sforblameonly, where it names a file-L, except as the first argument oflogorshowwith the range in the same argument%Gplaceholder, and format names that aren't built into gitEach deny has its own test. A positive control shows that the unguarded form writes a file, reads one it shouldn't, or runs a program.
Programs a repository's config can name are off.
diff, logandshowrun with--no-ext-diffand--no-textconv,logandshowwith--no-show-signature, andblamewith--no-textconv. Top-level-csettings turn off fsmonitor, signature checks, and the submodule diff and summary, and force git's own default format. Those settings reach the child git a submodule runs in, which the flags don't.The environment is rebuilt from an allowlist: system and global git config are off, optional locks are off, and repository discovery stops at the folder.
Read-only git never contacts a remote.
GIT_NO_LAZY_FETCH=1means a partial clone reports an object it never downloaded as missing. Without it,showfetched the object and wrote it into.git/objects(measured on git 2.54.0).GIT_ALLOW_PROTOCOLset to a name no transport uses refuses every protocol, which covers git older than 2.44, whereGIT_NO_LAZY_FETCHdoes nothing..envfiles,.env.*files and what a.envfolder holds, at any depth, are out of reach in two layers: the jail (an SBPL regex under the workspace root) and the tool policy. Read-only git refuses an argument that names one, in every form git reads a path from.status, log, diffandshowrun with pathspecs that exclude them, so no patch, pickaxe match or blob id comes from one..gitcan't be read with the file tools, because.git/configcan hold a remote URL with a token. History still comes through read-only git.--allow writeadds Edit, Write and Bash, and makes the folder writable..gitstays read-only, so there are no commits, hooks or config changes.--allow webadds WebFetch only. WebSearch stays denied.Grants are set at first run with
commonly agent run <name> --allow write, web. A later run that asks for different grants is refused, and the refusal says how to change them. Asking for a grant on a seat that won't work in its folder is refused with the reason, never dropped.A check before every turn.
Refused start folders:
$HOME,/, any ancestor of$HOME, and the credential folders (~/.commonly,~/.claude,~/.codex,~/.ssh,~/.aws,~/.config). Those seats keep the public default and log why.macOS only for now. Under bwrap the child's HOME is the folder, so transcripts would be written into the project. The adapter therefore refuses
workspacewith bwrap, and off macOS the first-run default stays public.Codex and the other adapters (opencode, qwen, pi, goose, dsh) refuse a declared
